Abstract:Aims: To explore the approaches of minimizing the microbial contamination during intravenous infusion, and to improve the efficacy of hand hygiene. Methods:During 30 wel-trained nurses performing intravenous perfusion, each of them required to perform the procedure for three times according to the same standard under three different management conditions, supervised process without patients hand hygiene, non-supervised process without patients hand hygiene and supervised process with patients hand hygiene , respectively, folowed by on-site sampling from the hands of those nurses immediately after the accomplishment of the intravenous perfusion. Al the samples were quantified for colonies by bacterial culture. Results: Bacterial colonies of those samples from thirty nurses enroled to evaluate the three management conditions, supervised process without patients hand hygiene, non-supervised process without patients hand hygiene and supervised process with patients hand hygiene, were 3.97±2.91cfu/cm2, 23.87±16.68cfu/cm2 and 5.13±3.76cfu/cm2, respectively. Statistical differences were revealed by ANOVAS analysis of those three management conditions.
