Abstract:Laboratory bioassay and field experiment were conducted to evaluate the toxicity and field control efficacy of pyriproxyfen and its mixture with organosilicon to B-biotype Bemisia tabaci.The laboratory bioassay indicated that pyriproxyfen had strong ovicidal activity against B.tabaci and high activity against B.tabaci nymphs,but had low toxicity to B.tabaci adults.After the adults were exposed to pyriproxyfen-treated eggplant leaves for 48 h,their oviposition on untreated eggplant leaves was not affected,but the egg hatching rate was sharply lowered,suggesting that pyriproxyfen had high transovarial activity.Organosilicon auxiliary agent did not show any synergistic effect when mixed with pyriproxyfen.Field trials showed that pyriproxyfen could effectively control the B.tabaci nymphs on eggplants,but could not effectively control the adults.
Field trials of emulsifiable suspensions of Beauveria bassina conidia for control aphid in shoot bamboo

Abstract:An emulsifiable formulation of Beauveria bassina conidia (Bb) produced using a diphasic fermentation technology was tested for efficiency against aphids infecting the bamboo shoots in Yuhang of Zhejiang Province during March and May 2003. Three aqueous dilutions (1×107,1×106 and 1×105 conidia·mL-1) were sprayed onto bamboo crown with water as negative control and 1000-fold dilution of imidacloprid 10% wettable powder (WP) as positive control. The results showed that the relative control efficacy against bamboo aphids on selected shoots with three dilutions was 60.0%, 75.1%, and 80.7% within 7 days after spray, respectively. With the increase of the conidia concentration, the control efficacy was enhanced. In the block test, the relative efficiencies against bamboo aphids reached up to 90.8% and in the extensive field trials, 87.9% aphids were killed after spray 7 days. The efficacy was close to what achieved by spraying the 1000-fold dilution of imidacloprid 10% WP. It was concluded that the Beauveria bassina is effective in control for aphids in shoot bamboo.

Abstract:A formulation of Beauveria bassiana containing 1×1010 (C1) or 2×1010conidia/ml (C2) and imidacloprid a.i. 3mg/ml was applied with three methods for control of Empoasca vitis in tea gardens of Hangzhou, Zhejiang during summer (trial 1) and autumn (trial 2). Each trial included seven 700-m2 plots for six fungal treatments and one blank control. The fungal formulation was sprayed twice at a 15- or 20-day interval at a fixed rate of 1.5l/ha for both C1 and C2: in 150-fold aqueous dilution (225l/ha) by a hand-operated, backpack hydraulic sprayer (method 1); in 100-fold aqueous dilution (150l/ha) by a knapsack airblast sprayer with 1.6- horsepower gasoline engine (method 2); and undiluted by a Micro Ulva hand-held sprayer powered with eight 1.5-volt batteries (method 3), respectively. Deposits of B. bassiana on tea canopy (no. conidia/mm2) in both trials were not significantly different among the three methods despite larger variances associated with methods 1 and 3 than method 2. Based on overall means of relative efficacies and declines in leafhopper density, all three methods were effective for fungal application for E. vitis control. Method 2 resulted in significantly better control than methods 1 and 3, yielding overall relative efficacies and density declines of 70% and 82% at the rate of C1 in trial 1 and 86% and 94% in trial 2. The doubled fungal rate of C2 applied with method 2 did not significantly enhance the control despite higher relative efficacies (81–88%) and population declines (89–94%) in both trials. Abstract:The field trial was carried out to study and compare control efficiency of ten nematicides(10% fosthiazate GR,48% chlorpyrifos EC,1.8% avermectins EC,15.5% ememectin benzoate·chlorpyrifos EC,5% carbosulfan GR,5% carbosulfan·chlorpyrifos GR,5% cadusafos GR,10 billion/g paecilomyces lilacinus,0.5% avermectins WP,15% Chinese herbal medicine WP) on cucumber root knot nematodes.The results showed that,the five nematicides,10% fosthiazate GR,5% carbosulfan·chlorpyrifos GR,5% cadusafos GR,10 billion/g paecilomyces lilacinus and 0.5% avermectins WP,showed good control effects on cucumber root knot nematodes after 45 days and 70 days of spraying the nematicides.And the five nematicides were lower toxic and more safety for vegetable products,and they could be used to control cucumber root knot nematodes in the future.
Evaluation of Interactive Efficacy of Two Mycoinsecticides and Low Application Rate Imidacloprid in Controlling Greenhouse Whitefly Trialeurodes Vaporariorum (homoptera: Aleyrodidae)

Abstract:The interactive effects of pure emulsifiable formulations (10(10) conidia.ml-1) of Beauveria bassiana and Paecilomyces fumosoroseus conidia and 1% and 3% of imidacloprid 10% WP were tested for controlling greenhouse whitefly, Trialeurodes vaporariorum, on lettuce grown in four polyethylene film-covered greenhouses (5 m x 100 m) in Kunming, Yunnan. Six fungal treatments, two imidacloprid ones, and one water-spray control were included in the experiment, with each being replicated in three plots (7 m x 5 m.plot-1). For each of the treatments, 1000-fold aqueous dilution (10(7) conidia.ml-1) was sprayed twice at a 15-d interval, with the first spray given on day 11 after lettuce transplantation. Counts of live and dead whiteflies from each treatment were made on the initial day, and then, once every five days. During a 30-d period of observation from August 20, the two applications of the fungal formulations alone or those containing low rates of imidacloprid 10% WP effectively protected the lettuce from damage by T. vaporariorum, and generated relative efficacies. Whitefly density decreased > 95%, which was significantly higher than that attributed to the low application rates of imidacloprid 10% WP. Based on the estimations of relative efficacy and percent density decrease, P. fumosoroseus treatments controlled the whiteflies better than B. bassiana ones, and the effects of both fungi on the pest population were apparently enhanced with the quantity of imidacloprid added. The differences among the fungal treatments in the two estimations were larger during the first 10 days, but decreased thereafter, becoming insignificant on day 10 after the second spray. The results indicated that the fungal formulations tested in this study are of great potential for practical use in whitefly control, and their efficacy could be enhanced with low rates of imidacloprid.
Efficacy of Emulsifiable Formulations of Two Entomopathogenic Fungi Against Small Green Leafhoppers on Tea Plant

Abstract:A field trial was conducted to test the efficacy of emulsifiable formulations of Beauveria bassiana (Bb) and Paecilomyces fumosoroseus (Pf) conidia in controlling small green leafhoppers (Empoasca spp.) on tea plant in a hillside tea garden located in Shuichang, Zhejiang during mid-summer 2002. Both Bb and Pf formulations contained 10(10) conidia x ml(-1). Adding 3% of imidacloprid 10% WP to each fungal formulation (W/V) resulted in two other formulations, i.e., Bb-imidacloprid mixture (BbIM) and Pf-imidacloprid mixture (PfIM). Besides the four formulations, a mineral oil-based liquid used to formulate the fungal conidia and containing 3% of imidacloprid 10% WP (OBLI) was also tested, and water spray was used as control (CK). Each of the treatments included three 60-m2 plots (replicates), which were sprayed twice with a 500-fold aqueous dilution of the corresponding formulation or preparation at a 12-d interval. Based on the leafhopper densities estimated by sampling in all plots at 3- or 4-d intervals after the first spray, the spray of BbIM or PfIM could better control the leafhoppers than the spray of Bb or Pf formulation. The maximal efficacy relative to CK reached 83.4% and 71.3% in the BbIM and PfIM treatments, respectively. Estimates of field efficacy obtained during the 25-d period after the first spray was 66.8% for BbIM, 62.1% for PfIM, 50.3% for OBLI, 49.5% for Bb, and 19.0% for Pf, respectively. A discussion was also given on the effect of local weather pattern and leafhopper population age structure on the results of the field trial, and on the application techniques to enhance the efficacy of mycoinsecticides against Empoasca species on tea plant.
Influence of different formulations on chlorpyrifos behavior and risk assessment in bamboo forest of China

Abstract:The effects of two formulations (emulsifiable concentrate (EC) and granule (G)) on the distribution, degradation, sorption, and residue risk of chlorpyrifos (CHP) were investigated in two producing areas of bamboo shoot. The results showed that CHP was mainly distributed in the topsoil (0–5 cm, P < 0.05), with the proportion of CHP in the total quantity ranging from 76.0 to 100.0 % (G) and 12.0 to 98.1 % (EC), respectively. The degradation of CHP-EC in soils (half-life 27.7–36.4 days) was faster than that of CHP-G in soils (half life above 120–150 days). The main metabolite of CHP, 3,5,6-trichloro-2-pyridinol (TCP), was found in soil samples. CHP showed good sorption ability in the two tested soils, with the sorption coefficient (K F ) of 43.76 and 94.43 mg/kg. The terminal residues of CHP in bamboo shoots were in the range of 15.2–75.6 (G) and 10.4–35.7 μg/kg (EC), respectively. The soil type had a notable effect on the CHP behaviors in soil ( P < 0.05, especially for CHP-G), but it did not affect the metabolite of CHP. Although some positive bamboo shoot samples (CHP residue exceeding maximum residue limits) were found, the hazard quotients did not exceed 7 %, which meant there was a negligible risk associated with the exposure to CHP via the consumption of bamboo shoots.
Field Trials of an Oil-Based Emulsifiable Formulation of Beauveria Bassiana Conidia and Low Application Rates of Imidacloprid for Control of False-Eye Leafhopper Empoasca Vitis on Tea in Southern China

Abstract:A mineral oil-based emulsifiable preparation of Beauveria bassiana conidia was evaluated for field efficacy against false-eye leafhopper Empoasca vitis on tea in autumn of Yunnan Province (trial 1) and summer of Zhejiang Province (trial 2), China. In trial 1, tea plots were sprayed twice with a 14-day interval at the rates of 1.7, 2.5, and 5.0×1013 conidia/ha alone or together with imidacloprid 10%WP at the low rates of 16.7, 25, and 50g/ha, respectively. In trial 2, the plots on a hillside tea garden were sprayed twice with a 12-day interval at the rate of 1.7×1013 conidia/ha alone or together with imidacloprid at the rate of 50g/ha. Leafhopper counts made every three or five days showed a varying degree of leafhopper control after the first spray that was enhanced by the second spray. The high-rate of B. bassiana and imidacloprid resulted in the most significant leafhopper control, yielding an overall mean efficacy of 69% (48–83%) in trial 1 and 67% (also 48–83%) in trial 2. The high-rate sprays of B. bassiana alone were only 39% (33–49%) efficient in trial 1, differing insignificantly from those at the lower application rates, and 50% (39–60%) in trial 2. The low-rate spray of imdacloprid alone in trial 2 also led to an efficacy of 50% (34–69%). Oil-based emulsifiable formulation of B. bassiana containing imidacloprid 10% WP at a rate as low as ⩽15% of its recommended rate (375–480g/ha) could be incorporated into the tea leafhopper management system. However, leafhopper control by B. bassiana alone was less satisfactory. The effects of local weather pattern and leafhopper population structure on the field trial results are discussed.
Trials of Beauveria Bassiana, Paecilomyces Fumosoroseus and Imidacloprid for Management of Trialeurodes Vaporariorum (homoptera : Aleyrodidae) on Greenhouse Grown Lettuce

Abstract:Mineral oil-based emulsifiable preparations of Beauveria bassiana (Bb) and Paecilomyces fumosoroseus (Pfr) conidia were separately applied alone or together with low rates of imidacloprid 10% WP at 4.7% (Im 1), 14.0% (Im 2), and 23.3% (Im 3) of its recommended application rate, respectively, against the greenhouse whitefly, Trialeurodes vaporariorum, on lettuce grown in the greenhouse. Besides eight fungal treatments, the three low application rates of imidacloprid in the oil-based carrier and a blank control (CK) were also included as treatments of the trials conducted in 2002 and 2003. For the 12 treatments of each trial with three replicates, 1,000-fold aqueous dilutions were sprayed twice on transplanted lettuce at a 15-day interval at a rate of ∼1.43×1013 conidia ha−1 for each fungal treatment or at one of the low rates of imidacloprid using a backpack hand-operated hydraulic sprayer. Based on whitefly densities, mortalities, relative efficacies and percent density declines estimated from whitefly counts made at 5-day intervals, all B. bassiana and P. fumosoroseus sprays were highly effective against T. vaporariorum compared to CK and Im 1–3 in both trials. In trial 1, the estimates of whitefly density decline and relative efficacy ranged from 44 and 72% (Bb) to 79 and 90% (Pfr+Im 2–3) on day 10 after the first spray and exceeded 94% for all fungal treatments 10 days after the second spray. Similar trends in whitefly control were also achieved in the corresponding treatments of trial 2. A more desirable and faster control resulted from fungal sprays containing more imidacloprid, but none of the three low imidacoprid rates alone suppressed the whitefly population more effectively than any fungal treatment despite a varying degree of efficacy. Moreover, P. fumosoroseus tended to be more effective against T. vaporariorum than B. bassiana when applied alone or together with the same low rate of imidacloprid but the difference in whitefly control eventually achieved was not significant between the two fungal agents. Thus, the emulsifiable preparations of both fungal agents can be considered as alternatives for whitefly management and for a slightly faster control can be applied together with imidacloprid at around 15% of its common application rate. An economic balance between the efficacy of whitefly control and the ease and cost of conidial production is needed when both fungi are incorporated into whitefly management.
Emulsifiable Oil-Formulated Beauveria Bassiana Competes with Imidacloprid for Seasonal Control of Cereal Aphids in Zhejiang, China

Abstract:BACKGROUND Alternatives to neonicotinoids against cereal aphids are needed to mitigate aphid resistance and non-target effects. The emulsifiable oil formulations of two Beauveria bassiana strains, namely Bb registered as a mycoinsecticide and TBb overexpressing an endogenous virulence factor, were tested for seasonal control of cereal aphids at the elongating (April 7) to milk ripening (May 12) stages of winter wheat crop in Yuhang, Zhejiang. Each of three field trials consisted of blank control and the treatments (three randomized 100-m(2) plots per capita) of each fungal strain sprayed biweekly at rates of 1.0 x 10(13) and 1.5 x 10(13) conidia ha(-1) and 10% imidacloprid WP sprayed biweekly at a label rate. RESULTS Tiller infestation percentage and aphid density in the 5-week field trials after the first spray were reduced to 18.7-22.4% and 9.1-12.4 aphids per tiller in the fungal treatments, and 12.8-25.3% and 2.8-20.9 aphids per tiller in the chemical treatment, contrasting with 49.2-60.3% and 37.1-108.5 aphids per tiller in the control. Percent control efficacies (+/- SD) computed with weekly aphid densities over the period averaged 84.0 +/- 1.6 and 85.3 +/- 1.8 versus 78.0 +/- 4.0 and 79.9 +/- 3.2 in the high-rate versus low-rate treatments of Bb and TBb, respectively, and 84.5 +/- 7.8 in the chemical treatment. Imidacloprid showed faster kill action but more variable efficacy than the fungal treatments throughout the trials. CONCLUSION Either Bb or TBb formulation competes with imidacloprid in reducing percent infestation and aphid density. Field Efficacy of Emulsifiable Suspensions of Beauveria Bassiana Conidia for Control of Myzus Persicae Population on Cabbage

Abstract:The conidial powder of Beauveria bassiana SG8702 produced using a diphasic fermentation technology was formulated into emulsifiable suspension I (EI-I, > 10(10) conidia.ml-1) and ES-II, which resulted from adding 1% (W/V) of imidacloprid 10% WP to the ES-I. Three dilutions (10(7), 10(6), and 10(5) conidia.ml-1 of each were sprayed onto cabbage plants for control of the green peach aphid Myzus persicae population in field plots in Kunming, Yunnan during July 2001. Each dilution and a water spray as control were replicated three times. During a 28 d period of sampling at 3 or 4 d intervals, spray of the ES-II at 10(7) conidia.ml-1 controlled the increase of the aphid population by > 90% consistently from day 7 after spray. The efficacy for the ES-I at the same concentration reached 85% on day 7 after spray, exceeded 70% in the following two weeks, but declined to 64.4% on day 24 and 52.6% on day 28. At the lower concentrations sprayed, both suspensions significantly suppressed the increase of M. persicae population, but the ES-II resulted in higher efficacy than the ES-I. Local summer weather with mild temperature and frequent rainy days was favorable to the use of the formulations for aphid control.
Efficacy and Economic Analysis of Formulation and Dosage of Pymetrozine in Controlling Rice Planthoppers

Abstract:Field experiments in three sites in Zhejiang province were carried out for evaluation of efficacy and economic efficiency of formulation and dosage of pymetrozine in controlling rice planthoppers,by economic threshold model-based simple judgment rule of chemical control.Wettable granule(WG) of pymetrozine was as effective as suspension emulsion(SE) with the same rate of 75 g a.i.·hm-2 in controlling the small brown planthopper(SBPH),Laodelphax striatellus,in rice panicle.Rates of 75 g a.i.·hm-2 and 112.5 g a.i.·hm-2 of 50% pymetrozine WG had efficacies of 60%-97% from 1 to 21 days after treatment(DAT) for controlling SBPH and the white-backed planthopper,Sogatella furcifera,in mid-season of rice growth.Same rates of 50% pymetrozine WG obtained the efficacies of 77%-98% for the brown planthopper,Nilaparvata lugens,from 4 to 21 DAT.The trends of control efficacies for the three planthoppers species in the two experimental sites were similar and could be well-fitted by Logistic models against DAT and reached the final maximum value of 98%,suggesting both the rates of the WG formulation of pymetrozine have fast and sustainable controlling effect for at least 21 days.The economic threshold model-based simple judgment rule of chemical control indicated that 50% pymetrozine WG in a rate of 75 g a.i.·hm-2 is the optimal selection in control of the three species of rice planthoppers in both japonica rice and indica hybrid rice.
Mycoinsecticides Applied in Late Afternoon to Avoid Solar UV Damage Are More Efficacious Against Rice Leaf-Rolling Insect Pests Than Those Applied in the Morning

Abstract:Beauveria bassiana ZJU435 (Bb-ZJU435) and Metarhizium anisopliae CQ421 (Ma-CQ421) registered as mycoinsecticides in China were tested for control efficacies against the rice leaf-rolling pests Cnaphalocrocis medialis and Parnara guttata, which migrated to the tillering stage of rice crop in three rice-shrimp rotation paddy fields, where chemical control is prohibited. Either mycoinsecticide was sprayed twice at a recommended rate after 5:00 pm to avoid solar UV avoidance (UVavo) or before 10:00 am to increase solar UV exposure (UVexp). The first spray, although followed by two-week harsh weather, reduced significantly leaf roll densities (damages) in the fungal treatments compared to blank control. The UVavo and UVexp treatments resulted in control efficacies of 63 % and 35 % for Ma-CQ421 and 28 % and 16 % for Bb-ZJU435 on day 14. The second spray was followed by two weeks of weather favorable for fungal action. Consequently, Bb-ZJU435 and Ma-CQ421 showed significantly higher efficacies in their UVavo treatments (60 % and 55 % on day 21; 66 % and 64 % on day 28) than in corresponding UVexp treatments (47 % and 43 % on day 21; 53 % and 50 % on day 28). The UVavo versus UVexp efficacies after the second spray were corrected to-95 % versus-85 % for Bb-ZJU435, and 75-84 % versus 54-68 % for Ma-CQ421 by verifying whether the leaf rolls were empty (damage-transferred) or occupied by a living or mycosis-killed larva in all treatments. Abstract:Aerial conidia of four isolates of Beauveria bassiana (Bb734 and Bb2860) and Metarhizium anisoplae (Ma456 and Ma759) produced on rice were formulated with an emulsifiable oil and sprayed in block-randomized triple plots (6×8m each) of two irrigated cotton fields (Trials 1 and 2) for control of summer populations of cotton spider mites, mainly Tetranychus truncates and T. turkestani, in the Tarim Basin of northwestern China, where the weather is of typical continental desert with a paucity of summer rain. The formulations of B. bassiana and M. anisoplae were sprayed at the rates of 1.5×1013 and 1.05×1013 conidia/ha, respectively, yielding deposits of 808–1059 and 600–721 conidia/mm2 on the leaves of cotton plants (55–65cm tall). In both trials, the spider mites were significantly controlled by all the fungal sprays despite some variation among the candidates. Pure sprays of Ma456 and Bb734 resulted in desirable control for 35 days in Trial 1 (sprayed twice at 15-day interval) or 30 days in Trial 2 (sprayed once). Overall means of relative efficacies during the periods of both trials were 85.8% (77.9–94.9%) and 88.0% (82.4–94.0%) for Ma456, and 77.9% (68.6–89.6%) and 85.7% (77.8–87.7%) for Bb734. However, inclusion of a low rate of chlorpyrifos (7.2g AI/ha) in the fungal sprays in Trial 2 did not significantly enhance the field efficacies despite somewhat improved. An unusually hot week encountered during the trial caused dramatic decreases of the mite densities in blank control. Hourly field records of relative humidity and temperature under cotton canopy showed 349 and 298h of ⩾95% RH in the two trials and a daily mean temperature of 23.6°C for both. Our results highlight for the first time the potential of the emulsifiable formulations of Ma456 and Bb734 for practical control of the cotton spider mites in the desert area under routine irrigation.
A Mixture of Putative Sodium Salts of Camptothecin and Bamboo Tar is a Novel Botanical Insecticide Against Rice Planthoppers and Stem Borers

Abstract:The phytochemical camptothecin (CPT) from Camptotheca acuminate (Nyssaceae) and the byproduct bamboo tar (BT) from bamboo charcoal making are insoluble in water. Here, we prepared water-soluble CPT-Na and BT-Na by alkalization of CPT and BT and a mixture of both salts (CPT/BT-Na), and evaluated their insecticidal activities against brown planthopper Nilaparvata lugens and Asiatic rice striped borer Chilo suppressalis under laboratory and field conditions. The modeling analysis of time-concentration-mortality responses indicated that the lethal concentrations (LC50 and LC90) of CPT-Na and BT-Na sprayed together against the two rice pests were reduced, respectively, by 3.5–14.8-fold and 3.3–29.1-fold in comparison with the estimates of the two salts sprayed separately. The reduction magnitude varied with post-spray days. These highlight a strong synergism of the two salts in insecticidal activity. In two field trials, a spray of CPT/BT-Na (CPT-Na + BT-Na: 1.5–3.0 + 135–270 g ha−1) resulted in more efficacious and persistent rice pest controls than not only a doubled spray of either CPT-Na or BT-Na, but also a recommended spray of imidacloprid against N. lugens or fipronil against C. suppressalis. All together, the mixture is a promising botanical insecticide for effective management of different rice insect pests.
Examination of acephate absorption, transport, and accumulation in maize after root irrigation for Spodoptera frugiperda control

Abstract:Since the invasion of the fall armyworm moth (Spodoptera frugiperda) in China in January 2019, damage to maize crops has gradually intensified, and chemical control has become the main control measure. This study aimed to examine methods of effective pest control while monitoring the environmental impact of pesticide use. The effectiveness of S. frugiperda pest control by foliar spraying and root irrigation of maize plants with acephate was determined, and the absorption, distribution, and dissipation of acephate and methamidophos by maize were studied. Field trials showed that acephate treatment at 6000 g a.i. ha−1 was the most effective for controlling S. frugiperda. Acephate and methamidophos were absorbed from the roots, transported upward, and concentrated in the leaves, particularly new leaves. The terminal residues of acephate and methamidophos in maize grains were below detectable levels at 60 days after treatment. The results demonstrate that acephate treatment via root irrigation can more effectively control the infestation of S. frugiperda in maize than acephate treatment via foliar spraying. The translocation and distribution of acephate and methamidophos by root irrigation were more uniform, and the holding efficiency was higher than those in foliar spraying, suggesting an extended period of control efficacy. This pest control method could be utilized to reduce pesticide residues while safely and efficiently controlling S. frugiperda infestation.

Abstract:In the present study, the effect of imidacloprid uptake from contaminated soils on the growth of leaf vegetable Shanghaiqing was investigated. The result showed that during 35-day exposure, the concentration of imidacloprid (IMI) was in the order of vegetable shoots > vegetable roots > soil, indicating that IMI was more readily concentrated in vegetable shoots than in roots. Moreover, the biomass of IMI-treated vegetable shoots was comparable to that of the controls with early exposure, but was higher than that of the controls after 7-day exposure, showing that the test concentration of IMI could stimulate vegetable growth. The plant metabolic analysis of vegetable shoots using LC-QTOF/MS revealed that IMI may cause oxidative stress to the plant shoots with early exposure; however, the stressful situation of IMI seems to be relieved with the increase of some substances (such as spermidine and phenylalanine) with late exposure. Moreover, the upregulation of N-rich amino acids (glutamine, aspartate, and arginine) suggested that the process of fixing inorganic nitrogen in the plant should be enhanced, possibly contributing to enhanced growth rates. Additionally, four IMI's metabolites were identified by using MS-FINDER software, and the distribution of three metabolites in vegetable tissues was compared.

Abstract:SummaryA series of laboratory bioassays with each consisting of low, medium and high concentration treatments of the fungal biocontrol agent Beauveria bassiana alone or supplemented with an increasing sublethal rate of imidacloprid were conducted to quantify the fungal and chemical interactions on chrysanthemum aphid Macrosiphoniella sanborni (0.01‐0.05 a.i. μg mL−1) and green peach aphid Myzus persicae (0.05‐0.5 a.i. μg mL−1). During one week after exposure to a 1 mL spray onto a 95 cm2 area in a Potter Spray Tower, M. sanborni was either more susceptible to B. bassiana or more sensitive to imidacloprid than M. persicae. The time–concentration–mortality (TCM) responses of each aphid species in each of five bioassays fit well to a TCM model, indicating a strong dependence of the fungal and chemical interactions on both concentration and post‐spray time. Adding imidacloprid to B. bassiana sprays at the rates of 0.025–0.05 μg mL−1 against M. sanborni or 0.1–0.5 μg mL−1 against M. persicae significantly enhanced or accelerated the fungal action. Based on the LC50 or LC90 estimates and their variances determined by the fitted TCM relationships for each aphid species, the relative potencies of an imidacloprid‐inclusive bioassay over those with B. bassiana alone or together with a lower sublethal rate ranged from a few to hundreds of times and varied over days after spray. These results suggest an alternative tactic for practical control of the aphid pests by a combined formulation or application of B. bassiana and imidacloprid and manage aphid resistance to the chemical insecticide.
