Abstract:Objective:To explore the relationship between the decline of intrinsic capacity proposed by WHO and activity of daily living (ADL) in the elderly. Methods:Using the convenient sampling method, 196 elderly patients who were hospitalized in the Geriatrics Ward of Beijing Hospital from March to December 2019 were selected. The Intrinsic Capacity Decline Assessment Tool and ADL scale were used to investigate the intrinsic capacity decline and ADL scores of the elderly, and the factors influencing ADL of the elderly were analyzed. Results:The score of intrinsic capacity decline of 196 elderly patients was 2.0 (1.0, 3.0) , and 93.4% of the elderly had decline of intrinsic capacity. There were statistically significant differences in score of intrinsic capacity decline of the elderly with different basic activities of daily living (BADL) ( H=39.605, P<0.01) . The elderly with impaired instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) had a more severe decline in intrinsic ability than the elderly without IADL impairment, and the difference was statistically significant ( Z=-5.941, P<0.01) . Logistics regression results showed that age and intrinsic capacity decline were the main factors affecting BADL and IADL of the elderly. Conclusions:The decline of intrinsic capacity is common in the elderly, and intrinsic capacity is closely related to ADL in the elderly.
