Abstract:Firstly,from the perspective of oriental and western cultures as well as the historical development of ori-ental and western sports,the authors described their different characteristics and the causes for the current state of development,and pointed out the followings: the main characteristic of western culture and sports is the opposition presented in a competitive way,while the main characteristic of oriental culture and sports is the unification pre-sented in a harmonious way;at present,the current state of unbalanced development of oriental and western cultures and sports is caused by an extrinsic factor-general social environment.Secondly,the authors analyzed the old worry – the impact of dominating western competitive sports,and the new threat – the approach of emerging oriental sports events,with respect to the development of traditional national sports.Lastly,the authors pointed out the followings: the development of traditional national sports nowadays is given unprecedented opportunities,and also facing extremely serious challenges;on the one hand,our nation should make more efforts to help and support traditional national sports as a disadvantageous cultural carrier,while one the hand,the sports community should also take actions to truly show its own characteristics,so that it will fully embody the characteristics of national culture both technically and theoretically,and only by doing so can traditional national sports be further developed.
