Then, by using the Melnikov function, we consider the limit cycle bifurcation problem of a 3-piecewise near Hamiltonian system with two switching lines, obtaining \begin{document}$ 2n+3[\frac{n+1}{2}] $\end{document} limit cycles near the double generalized homoclinic loop.

Abstract:We prove that perturbing the periodic annulus of the reversible quadratic polynomial differential system $\dot x=y+ax^2$ , $\dot y=-x$ with a ≠ 0 inside the class of all quadratic polynomial differential systems we can obtain at most two limit cycles, including their multiplicities. Since the first integral of the unperturbed system contains an exponential function, the traditional methods cannot be applied, except in Figuerasa, Tucker and Villadelprat (2013, J. Diff. Equ. , 254 , 3647–3663) a computer-assisted method was used. In this paper, we provide a method for studying the problem. This is also the first purely mathematical proof of the conjecture formulated by Dumortier and Roussarie (2009, Discrete Contin. Dyn. Syst. , 2 , 723–781) for q ⩽ 2. The method may be used in other problems.

Abstract:This paper studies the number of limit cycles that may bifurcate from an equilibrium of an autonomous system of differential equations. The system in question is assumed to be of dimension $n$, have a zero-Hopf equilibrium at the origin, and consist only of homogeneous terms of order $m$. Denote by $H_k(n,m)$ the maximum number of limit cycles of the system that can be detected by using the averaging method of order $k$. We prove that $H_1(n,m)\leq(m-1)\cdot m^{n-2}$ and $H_k(n,m)\leq(km)^{n-1}$ for generic $n\geq3$, $m\geq2$ and $k>1$. The exact numbers of $H_k(n,m)$ or tight bounds on the numbers are determined by computing the mixed volumes of some polynomial systems obtained from the averaged functions. Based on symbolic and algebraic computation, a general and algorithmic approach is proposed to derive sufficient conditions for a given differential system to have a prescribed number of limit cycles. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is illustrated by a family of third-order differential equations and by a four-dimensional hyperchaotic differential system.

Abstract:Due to their applications to many physical phenomena during these last decades the interest for studying the discontinuous piecewise differential systems has increased strongly. The limit cycles play a main role in the study of any planar differential system, but to determine the maximum number of limits cycles that a class of planar differential systems can have is one of the main problems in the qualitative theory of the planar differential systems. Thus in general to provide a sharp upper bound for the number of crossing limit cycles that a given class of piecewise linear differential system can have is a very difficult problem. In this paper we characterize the existence and the number of limit cycles for the piecewise linear differential systems formed by linear Hamiltonian systems without equilibria and separated by a reducible cubic curve, formed either by an ellipse and a straight line, or by a parabola and a straight line parallel to the tangent at the vertex of the parabola. Hence we have solved the extended 16th Hilbert problem to this class of piecewise differential systems.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the maximum number of small-amplitude limit cycles bifurcated from a planar piecewise smooth focus-parabolic type cubic system that has one switching line given by the x-axis. By applying the generalized polar coordinates to the parabolic subsystem and computing the Lyapunov constants, we obtain 11 weak center conditions and 9 weak focus conditions at (0,0). Under these conditions, we prove that a planar piecewise smooth cubic system with a focus-parabolic-type critical point can bifurcate at least nine limit cycles. So far, our result is a new lower bound of the cyclicity of the piecewise smooth focus-parabolic type cubic system.

Abstract:We give a proof of the distribution property of limit cycles in so-called quadratic systems. We prove that the possible limit cycle distributions are either ( n , 0 ) or ( n , 1 ) (where n ∈ { 0 } ∪ N ). The aim of this article is to simplify and fill gaps in the original proof by Zhang ( On the distribution and number of limit cycles for quadratic systems with two foci , Qual. Theory Dyn. Sys. 3 (2002), 437–463). The sixteenth Hilbert problem asks for an upper bound for the number of limit cycles in polynomial systems H ( n ) , where n is the maximum degree of the polynomial defining the system. A consequence of the distribution property is that it reduces the study of H ( 2 ) to the study of the maximum number of limit cycles surrounding one singularity.

Abstract:This paper considers the weakened Hilbert’s 16th problem for symmetric planar perturbed polynomial Hamiltonian system. A [Formula: see text]-equivariant planar vector field of degree 12 is deduced to find as many as possible limit cycles and their configuration patterns. By using bifurcation theory of planar dynamical system and the method of detection function, we have obtained that, under the thirteenth-order perturbation, the above [Formula: see text]-equivariant planar perturbed Hamiltonian vector field of 12-degree has at least 117 limit cycles. Moreover, this paper also shows the configuration of compound eyes of the corresponding perturbed systems.

Abstract:For a famous cubic system given by James and Lloyd, there exist some sufficient conditions such that the system has eight limit cycles. In this paper, we try to derive by computers the necessary and sufficient conditions for this system to have eight limit cycles. In order to find the symbolic real solutions to semi-algebraic systems where polynomials are Lyapunov quantities, we transform the equations into triangular systems by pseudo-division, locate the real solutions of the last equation and verify the inequalities by the Budan-Fourier theorem. The necessary and sufficient conditions for the system to have eight limit cycles are given under a reasonable limitation.
Ten limit cycles near a cubic homoclinic loop with a nilpotent cusp

Abstract:In this paper, we study the bifurcation of limit cycles near a homoclinic cuspidal loop in a planar cubic near-Hamiltonian system by high-order Melnikov functions. We present a method combining the algebraic structure of Abelian integrals and Picard-Fuchs equation for computing the corresponding asymptotic expansion of Melnikov functions near the cuspidal loop. Using this system as an example, we show that planar cubic systems can have ten limit cycles bifurcating near a cubic homoclinic loop.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the maximum number of limit cycles that can bifurcate from the periodic annulus of the linear center for discontinuous piecewise quadratic polynomial differential systems with four zones separated by two nonlinear curves . By analyzing the first order averaged function, we prove that at most 7 crossing limit cycles can produce from periodic annulus of the linear center, and the upper bound is reached. In addition, under particular conditions, we obtain that at least 8 crossing limit cycles can bifurcate from periodic annulus in this class of systems by using the second order averaged function. Our results show that multiple switching curves increase the number of crossing limit cycles in comparison with the case where there is only a single switching curve.

Abstract:We provide upper bounds for the maximum number of limit cycles bifurcating from the period annulus of any homogeneous and quasi-homogeneous center, which can be obtained using the Abelian integral method of first order. We show that these bounds are the best possible using the Abelian integral method of first order. We note that these centers are in general non-Hamiltonian. As a consequence of our study we provide the biggest known number of limit cycles surrounding a unique singular point in terms of the degree n of the system for arbitrary large n.

Abstract:This paper studies the bifurcations of limit cycles from the system , with the switching curve under the perturbations of arbitrary polynomials of x and y with degree n . We obtain the lower bound and upper bound of the maximum number of limit cycles bifurcating from if the first order Melnikov function is not identically 0. When the degree of perturbing terms is low, we obtain a precise result on the number of zeros of the first order Melnikov function. We also give an example to illustrate our result.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the bifurcation of limit cycles, centers, and isochronous centers for a class of three-dimensional Kukles systems of degree 3. Through calculating the singular point quantities, we obtain a necessary condition for the origin to be a center, then the Darboux integrability theory is used to prove that the necessary condition is also sufficient. Then, we demonstrate that the origin is an isochronous center under the obtained center condition. Finally, we determine that the highest order of the origin to be a weak focus is ten, while the maximum number of small-amplitude limit cycles bifurcating from this weak focus is nine. Moreover, we show that this maximum number of 9 can be realized. It is worthwhile to say that this number is also a new lower bound on the number of limit cycles bifurcating from the single weak focus for three-dimensional cubic polynomial systems.

Abstract:We consider quadratic three-dimensional differential systems having a Hopf singular point. We study their cyclicity when the singular point is a center on the center manifold using higher-order developments of the Lyapunov constants. As a result, we make a chart of the cyclicity by establishing the lower bounds for several known systems in the literature, including the Rössler, Lorenz, and Moon-Rand systems. Moreover, we construct an example of a jerk system to obtain 12 limit cycles bifurcating from the center, which is a new lower bound for three-dimensional quadratic systems.

Abstract:The limit cycles have a main role in understanding the dynamics of planar differential systems, but their study is generally challenging. In the last few years, there has been a growing interest in researching the limit cycles of certain classes of piecewise differential systems due to their wide uses in modeling many natural phenomena. In this paper, we provide the upper bounds for the maximum number of crossing limit cycles of certain classes of discontinuous piecewise differential systems (simply PDS) separated by a straight line and consequently formed by two differential systems. A linear plus cubic polynomial forms six families of Hamiltonian nilpotent centers. First, we study the crossing limit cycles of the PDS formed by a linear center and one arbitrary of the six Hamiltonian nilpotent centers. These six classes of PDS have at most one crossing limit cycle, and there are systems in each class with precisely one limit cycle. Second, we study the crossing limit cycles of the PDS formed by two of the six Hamiltonian nilpotent centers. There are systems in each of these 21 classes of PDS that have exactly four crossing limit cycles.

Abstract:In this paper, the limit cycles and local bifurcation of critical periods for a class of switching Z2 equivariant quartic system with two symmetric singularities are investigated. First, through the computation of Lyapunov constants, the conditions of the two singularities to become the centers are determined. Then, we prove that there are at most 18 limit cycles with a distribution pattern of 9-9 around the two symmetric singular points of the system. Numerical simulation is conducted to validate the obtained results. Furthermore, by calculating the period constants, we determine the conditions for the critical point to be a weak center of finite order. Finally, the number of local critical periods that bifurcate from the equilibrium point under the center conditions is discussed. This study presents the first example of a quartic switching smooth system with 18 limit cycles and 4 local critical periods bifurcating from two symmetric singular points.

Abstract:A. Gasull shared a list of 33 open problems in low dimensional dynamical systems in his work in 2021. The second part of Problem 3 is about whether the limit cycle of a quasi-homogeneous system $ \dot{x}=y,\; \dot{y}=-x^3+\alpha x^2y+y^3 $ is unique. In this paper, we give a positive answer to this question by analysing the uniqueness of the heteroclinic separatrix at infinity.

Abstract:We study critical orbits and bifurcations within the moduli space M-2 of quadratic rational maps, f : P-1 -> P-1. We focus on the family of curves, Per(1)(lambda) subset of M-2 for lambda is an element of C, defined by the condition that each f is an element of Per(1)(lambda) has a fixed point of multiplier lambda. We prove that the curve Per(1)(lambda) contains infinitely many postcritically finite maps if and only if lambda = 0, addressing a special case of Baker and DeMarco ('Special curves and postcritically finite polynomials', Forum of Math. Pi 1 (2013), doi: 10.1017/fmp.2013.2; Conjecture 1.4). We also show that the two critical points of f define distinct bifurcation measures along Per(1)(lambda).
On the number of limit cycles in piecewise planar quadratic differential systems

Abstract:We consider piecewise quadratic perturbations of centers of piecewise quadratic systems in two zones determined by a straight line through the origin. By means of expansions of the displacement map, we are able to find isolated zeros of it, without dealing with the unsurprising difficult integrals inherent in the usual averaging approach. We apply our technique to non-smooth perturbations of the four families of isochronous centers of the Loud family, $S_1$, $S_2$, $S_3$, and $S_4$, as well as to non-smooth perturbations of non-smooth centers given by putting different $S_i$'s in each zone. To show the coverage of our approach, we apply its first order, which recovers the averaging method of the first order, in perturbations of the already mentioned centers considering all the straight lines through the origin. Then we apply its second order to perturbations of the above centers for a specific oblique straight line. Here in order to argue we introduce certain blow-ups in the perturbative parameters. As a consequence of our study, we obtain examples of piecewise quadratic systems with at least $12$ limit cycles. By analyzing two previous works of the literature claiming much more limit cycles we found some mistakes in the calculations. Therefore, the best lower bound for the number of limit cycles of a piecewise quadratic system is up to now the $12$ limit cycles found in the present paper.
