Abstract:Orthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine, Volume 12, Issue 10, October 2024. Background:The Knee injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score for patellofemoral pain and osteoarthritis (KOOS-PF) is a condition-specific patient-reported outcome measure that is used to evaluate patients with patellofemoral pain.Purpose:To translate the KOOS-PF into the Thai language, to make necessary adaptations to a Thai cultural context, and to assess the measurement properties of the Thai version of the KOOS-PF (TH-KOOS-PF) using the COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement INstruments (COSMIN) checklist.Study Design:Cohort study (diagnosis); Level of evidence, 3.Methods:This study was conducted between December 2021 and May 2023. Language translation of the KOOS-PF was performed according to guidelines for the cross-cultural adaptation of self-report measures. Eligible participants aged 18 to 50 years were asked to complete various patient-reported outcome measures including the TH-KOOS-PF at 3 time points: baseline, 2 weeks after baseline for test-retest reliability analysis, and 2 months after baseline for responsiveness assessment.Results:The KOOS-PF was successfully translated and culturally adapted to create the TH-KOOS-PF. A total of 86 participants (mean age, 37.0 ± 8.1 years; 59.3% female) with patellofemoral pain participated in the validation process. Construct validity of the TH-KOOS-PF was demonstrated by confirmation of all a priori hypotheses. The standardized Cronbach alpha coefficient was 0.88 (95% CI, 0.83-0.91), which indicated good internal consistency. Test-retest reliability was high, with an intraclass correlation coefficient of 0.87 (95% CI, 0.77-0.92). The TH-KOOS-PF demonstrated good responsiveness, as evidenced by all predefined hypotheses' being confirmed, and there were no floor or ceiling effects. Using an anchor-based approach, the minimal clinically important difference was 11.6 points.Conclusion:The results of this study revealed the TH-KOOS-PF to be a valid, reliable, and responsive tool for assessing Thai patients with patellofemoral pain. The TH-KOOS-PF will be useful in both clinical and research settings.

Background:The Victorian Institute of Sport Assessment-Patella (VISA-P) questionnaire is a widely accepted instrument for measuring the severity of symptoms and pain in patients having sustained patellar tendinopathy.Purpose:To adapt the VISA-P questionnaire cross-culturally to a traditional Chinese version (VISA-P-Ch) and validate its psychometric properties.Study Design:Cohort study (diagnosis); Level of evidence, 3.Methods:The VISA-P questionnaire was adapted to a traditional Chinese version following international recommended guidelines, including translation, synthesis, back translation, revision by expert committee, pretesting, and validation. The psychometric properties were tested in 15 healthy controls and 15 participants with patellar tendinopathy. Face validity was judged by the authors and participants. Known-groups validity was tested by comparing the VISA-P-Ch scores between symptomatic and asymptomatic participants using an independent t test. Concurrent validity was determined by comparing the Blazina classification of the participants against VISA-P-Ch scores using the Spearman correlation coefficient. Test-retest reliability was assessed by calculating the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) following a 24- to 48-hour interval. Internal consistency was determined by the Cronbach alpha.Results:The expert committee and participants reported good face validity of the VISA-P-Ch. Significantly higher scores were found in the control group than in the patellar tendinopathy group (98.47 ± 3.04 vs 65 ± 11.9; P < .001). Concurrent validity showed a high correlation between VISA-P-Ch and the Blazina classification system (r = -0.899; P < .01). The test-retest reliability was excellent (ICC = 0.964). Internal consistency was found to be good for both the first and second assessments (Cronbach α = 0.834 and 0.851).Conclusion:The VISA-P-Ch was proven to be a reliable and valid questionnaire with similar psychometric properties as the original VISA-P.

Abstract:BACKGROUND: The purposes of this study were to translate the new Knee Society Score (KSS) into Japanese and to evaluate the construct and content validity, test-retest reliability, and internal consistency of the Japanese version of the new KSS.METHODS: The Japanese version of the KSS was developed according to cross-cultural guidelines by using the "translation-back translation" method to ensure content validity. KSS data were then obtained from patients who had undergone total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The psychometric properties evaluated were as follows: for feasibility, response rate, and floor and ceiling effects; for construct validity, internal consistency using Cronbach's alpha, and correlations with quality of life. Construct validity was evaluated by using Spearman's correlation coefficient to quantify the correlation between the KSS and the Japanese version of the Oxford 12-item Knee Score or Short Form 36 Health Survey (SF-36) questionnaires.RESULTS: The Japanese version of the KSS was sent to 93 consecutive osteoarthritic patients who underwent primary TKA in our institution. Fifty-five patients completed the questionnaires and were included in this study. Neither a floor nor ceiling effect was observed. The reliability proved excellent in the majority of domains, with intraclass correlation coefficients of 0.65-0.88. Internal consistency, assessed by Cronbach's alpha, was good to excellent for all domains (0.78-0.94). All of the four domains of the KSS correlated significantly with the Oxford 12-item Knee Score. The activity and satisfaction domains of the KSS correlated significantly with all and the majority of subscales of the SF-36, respectively, whereas symptoms and expectation domains showed significant correlations only with bodily pain and vitality subscales and with the physical function, bodily pain, and vitality subscales, respectively.CONCLUSIONS: The Japanese version of the new KSS is a valid, reliable, and responsive instrument to capture subjective aspects of the functional symptoms and abilities of patients who undergo TKA.

Abstract:Background: Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS) scale is a patient-reported outcome measurement tool. It evaluates both short- and long-term consequences of knee injury and primary osteoarthritis. This study aims to translate and validate the KOOS scale for a Sinhala-speaking Sri Lankan population. Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted in three hospitals. Four hundred and fifteen patients comprising 185 males and 227 females (3 subjects did not reveal their gender) with knee osteoarthritis (KOA) participated in the study. Seventy nine participants without KOA were recruited as controls. The functionality and quality of life level in patients and healthy participants were assessed using translated versions of the KOOS and Short Form-36 (SF-36) scales. Internal consistency of the instrument was assessed by Cronbach alpha. Construct validity and test-retest reliability were examined using the Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC). Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was used to assess factorial validity. Results: The mean age (± sd) of the KOA subjects was 54.9 (± 9.2) years and for the control group was 49.2 (± 8.0) years. Majority of the respondents were female and Sinhalese in both groups. Internal consistency reliability was high (Cronbach's alpha values ≥ 0.70). The test-retest reliability was excellent with the intraclass correlation coefficient for all subscales being above 0.90. Construct validity was assessed by the magnitude of the correlation coefficient between KOOS and SF-36 subscale scores. KOOS Pain scale moderately correlated with SF-36 bodily pain (Pearson's r = 0.41). SF-36 physical function scores had a weak positive correlation with all KOOS subscales and SF-36 emotional wellbeing was not significantly correlated with KOOS Quality of Life (QoL) subscale. A five-factor Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) model yielded a Comparative Fit Index (CFI) = 0.950, Tucker Lewis Index (TLI) = 0.946, Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA) = 0.082 and Standardised Root Mean squared Residual (SRMR) = 0.072. Conclusion: The Sinhala translation of the KOOS scale is a reliable and valid instrument to assess KOA in a Sinhala-speaking Sri Lankan population. Studies to assess its use as a scale to evaluate responsiveness are recommended.
Psychometric evaluation of the Danish version of the Pain Self-Efficacy Questionnaire in patients with subacute and chronic low back pain

Abstract:Objective: The Pain Self-Efficacy Questionnaire (PSEQ) is a widely used patient-reported outcome measure designed to assess the level of pain self-efficacy in patients with low back pain (LBP). Although the PSEQ has been translated into Danish, its measurement properties remain unknown in patients with subacute and chronic LBP in Danish outpatient clinics. The aim of this study was to investigate the construct validity, internal consistency, test-retest reliability, and measurement error of the Danish version of the PSEQ in a group of Danish patients with subacute and chronic LBP in a hospital outpatient setting. Methods: Patients with LBP referred to two Danish outpatient clinics were recruited for this study. Two days after the consultation, the participants were emailed a link to a survey that included the following outcome measures: the PSEQ, the Oswestry Disability Index, the Numeric Pain Rating Scale, and the Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia. Five days after completion of the survey, a new survey that included the PSEQ was sent to the participants. Results: In total, 109 participants were included for the analysis of construct validity and internal consistency, with 94 participants included for the analysis of test-retest reliability and measurement error. Construct validity was found to be high and internal consistency was acceptable, with Cronbach's alpha = 0.93 (95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.91-0.93). Test-retest reliability was found to be good, with an intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC2.1) of 0.89 (95% CI = 0.82-0.92). The standard error of measurement was calculated to be 4.52 and the smallest detectable change was 12.5 points. Conclusions: The Danish version of the PSEQ showed acceptable measurement properties in terms of construct validity, internal consistency, and test-retest reliability in a group of patients with subacute and chronic LBP. However, further studies are needed to investigate other aspects of the measurement properties.
Validity and reliability of the Balance Error Score System (BESS) Thai version in patients with chronic non-specific neck pain

Abstract:Neck pain has been found to affect the somatosensory system, which can lead to impaired balance control. To assess the balance of patients with neck pain and other conditions, the balance error scoring system (BESS) is commonly used as a static balance measurement tool. However, this tool is seldom used in Thailand due to its English language format. To translate and determine the content, convergent validity, and reliability of a Thai version of the BESS tool. A process of cross-cultural adaptation was utilized to translate BESS into a Thai version, called BESS-TH. To assess content validity, five physical therapy lecturers specializing in the musculoskeletal field used BESS to measure balance in participants with neck pain. For the convergent validity process, 130 patients diagnosed with chronic non-specific neck pain (CNSNP) were randomly assessed using four static balance tests (BESS, Single-leg balance test (SLBT), Romberg test, and Tandem stance test). For reliability, two assessors with varying years of work experience independently assessed videos of the participants twice using the BESS-TH, with a minimum 7-day interval between assessments. The BESS-TH used to assess balance of patients with neck pain demonstrated acceptable content validity (index of item objective congruence (IOC) = 0.87). The Spearman's Rank Correlation Coefficient was calculated between the BESS-TH and three other measures: the SLBT with eyes open and eyes closed, the Romberg test with eyes open and eyes closed, and the Tandem stance test with eyes open and Tandem stance test with eyes closed. The values obtained were as follows: -0.672, -0.712, -0.367, -0.529, -0.570, and -0.738, respectively. The inter-rater and intra-rater reliability were 0.922 (95% CI = 0.864–0.956) and 0.971 (95% CI = 0.950–0.983), respectively. Minimum detectable change (MDC) for the total BESS score of inter-rater and intra-rater reliability were 7.16 and 4.34 points, respectively. The BESS-Thai version was acceptable, reliable, and valid for evaluating balance performance in patients with CNSNP. This tool can be used and applied to clinically evaluate postural control in Thailand.

Abstract:Purpose: The purpose of this study was to translate and cross-culturally adapt the Achilles Tendon Total Rupture Score (ATRS), a patient-reported outcome measurement (PROM) designed specifically to assess outcomes in patients with Achilles tendon rupture, into the Thai language and then determine its validity and reliability. Methods: The ATRS was translated into the Thai version (Thai-ATRS) according to internationally recognized guidelines. The study included 50 patients with Achilles tendon rupture from 2003 to 2017. The web-based online assessments were conducted two weeks apart. Construction validity was determined by assessing the correlation between the Thai-ATRS and the Thai version of the Foot and Ankle Outcome Score (Thai-FAOS). Reliability was determined with Cronbach's alpha and intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC). Results: The validity test displayed a strong correlation between the Thai-ATRS and the Thai-FAOS (r = 0.87). The reliability test showed good internal consistency with a Cronbach's alpha of 0.95 and excellent internal consistency with an ICC of 0.95, which represented excellent test-retest reliability. The MDC was 10.7 at the individual level and 1.5 at the group level. Conclusion: The Thai-ATRS was demonstrated to be valid and reliable for assessing functional outcomes in Thai patients with Achilles tendon rupture. Level of evidence: II.
Translation and Validation of the Thai Version of a Modified Brief Pain Inventory: A Concise Instrument for Pain Assessment in Postoperative Cardiac Surgery

Abstract:BACKGROUND: Acute pain after cardiac surgery can be assessed using validated instruments such as the modified interference subscale of the Brief Pain Inventory (mod-BPI). Despite the available knowledge, the Thai version of a mod-BPI has not yet been presented.OBJECTIVES: To translate a mod-BPI into the Thai language (BPI-T) and to validate it in acute pain after cardiac surgery.METHODS: This multisetting, cross-sectional study was done from 4 cardiac centers. With a convenience sampling technique, 132 cardiac surgery patients were enrolled during the first 72 postoperative hours. A BPI-T composed of 4 items on the intensity subscale and 6 items on the interference subscale was translated following Brislin's model. Convergent validity against the numeric rating scale (NRS), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and internal consistency reliability were examined.RESULTS: Of the total sample, 70% experienced moderate to severe pain (cutoff points of worst pain ≥ 4/10), and 65% had moderate to severe interference with deep breathing and coughing, 53% with general activity, and 49% with walking. The CFA confirmed the 2-factor structure of intensity and interference subscales consistent with the original version (root-mean-square error of approximation = 0.08, comparative fit index = 0.95, χ2 = 39.00, df = 27, χ2 /df = 1.44, P = 0.06). The physical and mental subdimensions under the interference subscale were determined (standardized factor loading = 0.70 and 0.42, respectively). The BPI-T also has good internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha coefficients 0.76 and 0.85). Pearson's correlation coefficients at 0.35 to 0.70 supported the convergent validity to the NRS.CONCLUSIONS: The BPI-T is a concise instrument for pain assessment in postoperative cardiac surgery.

Abstract:Objectives: To determine the most appropriate method of functional assessment for "patellofemoral pain" (PFP)/"chondromalacia patella" for its diagnostic value, (validity, reliability, sensitivity, specificity, predictive value and clinical applicability); to outline initial interpretations of the questionnaires and their appropriateness, through the cut-off points determined in their scores based on physical test and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI); to establish which methods should be used in conjunction with each other to obtain clinical diagnoses that are robust effective and efficient. Methods: (1)Intra- and inter-observer reliability and of the relationship among PFP questionnaires/physical tests validated. (2)Predictive capacity of the questionnaires. Subject: 113 knees with PFP, assessed using "Knee-injury-and-Osteoarthritis Outcome-Score-for-Patellofemoral-pain-and-osteoarthritis" (KOOS-PF), "Kujala-Patellofemoral-Score" (KPS), "Victorian-Institute-of-Sports-Assessment-for-Patellar-tendons-questionnaire" (VISA-P), and the physical tests: "patellar-palpation", "patellar-tilt", "patellar-apprehension", "Clarke" and "squat". Results: Questionnaires correlations themselves was 0.78<r<0.86. Tests intra-rater reliability was "excellent". Squat inter-rater reliability was "excellent"/"good". Palpation, tilt, Clarke and squat showed a statistically significant relationship (p<0.05) with all questionnaires/specific items. AUC of the questionnaires showed a "useful" accuracy, except for Tilt. No statistically significant differences were found between grades 0 and 1 chondromalacia (by MRI) knee scores, but between 1 and ≥2. AUC of the questionnaires showed "useful" accuracy. Conclusions: KOOS-PF, KPS and VISA-P demonstrated their diagnostic value in PFP/chondromalacia (validity, reliability, sensitivity, specificity, predictive value and clinical applicability). KOOS-PF was the most versatile, and the most appropriate in mild cases and for early detection and prevention. Squat was the best due to its reliability and clinical relationship with the questionnaires, which predicted it correctly. The functional assessment tools discussed should be applied by combining them with each other.
Validity and reliability of the Thai version of the ASCRS SPEED II preoperative OSD questionnaire in Thai cataract surgery candidates

Abstract:Objectives To develop a Thai version of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS)-modified Standard Patient Evaluation of Eye Dryness (SPEED) II © preoperative ocular surface disease (OSD) questionnaire (ASCRS SPEED II-Thai) and evaluate its validity and reliability in Thai cataract surgery candidates. Methods The original English version of the questionnaire was translated and adapted cross-culturally to Thai language. The ASCRS SPEED II-Thai was evaluated for content validity, internal consistency, and test-retest reliability. Five experts in the ocular surface field critically reviewed the ASCRS SPEED II-Thai to measure the content validity indexes (CVI). A total of 105 cataract surgery candidates were recruited from an ophthalmology clinic to complete the questionnaire. Cronbach’s alpha and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) were calculated to assess internal consistency and test–retest reliability, respectively. Results During the translation and cross-cultural adaptation processes, only two minor modifications were made to the original version for clarification without changing their meaning. All items in the ASCRS SPEED II-Thai had an item-level CVI of 1.00, representing complete agreement among content experts. The scale-level CVI was 1.00, indicating excellent content validity of the questionnaire. The participants found no difficulty in understanding each question in the pilot test. Cronbach’s alpha for the ASCRS SPEED II-Thai was 0.82, indicating good internal consistency. The test-retest reliability was good to excellent, with ICC values ranging from 0.83 to 1.00 ( P < 0.001). Conclusions The ASCRS SPEED II-Thai is a valid clinical tool with adequate reliability for preoperative OSD screening among Thai cataract surgery candidates.

Abstract:This study aimed to adapt and validate the Knee Osteoarthritis Fears and Beliefs Questionnaire (KOFBeQ) for Chinese patients, thereby advancing the understanding of fear-avoidance behaviors. Adopting a cross-sectional design, data were collected for 241 subjects (78.8% women; mean age 68.0 ± 7.8 years) across various healthcare settings in Hong Kong. Exploratory factor analysis resulted in an 11-item questionnaire with three distinct subscales, covering fears and beliefs related to physicians and disease (six items), daily living activities (three items), and sports and leisure activities (two items). The overall Cronbach's α coefficient was 0.86, indicating strong internal consistency. The questionnaire exhibited favorable convergent validity. Confirmatory factor analyses confirmed a good model fit. Test–retest reliability analysis indicated a high intraclass correlation coefficient of 0.93 (95% confidence interval: 0.88, 0.96), and a Bland–Altman plot revealed a slight bias in two measurements (0.97 [0.19]) without a systematic trend. The adapted Chinese version of the KOFBeQ demonstrated robust psychometric properties in terms of validity and reliability, providing an effective tool for surveying Chinese patients with knee osteoarthritis. These findings offer valuable insights for clinicians and patients, aiding in informed decision-making and improved rehabilitation strategies.

Abstract:Purpose: The objective of the current study was to conduct a rigorous assessment of the psychometric properties of the Victorian Institute of Sports Assessment-patellar tendinopathy (VISA-P). Methods: Rasch analysis, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and multivariable linear regression were used to assess the psychometric properties of the VISA-P questionnaire in 184 Danish patients with patellar tendinopathy who had symptoms ranging from under 3 months to over 1 year. A group of 100 healthy Danish persons was included as a reference for known-group validation. Results: The analyses revealed that the 8-item VISA-P did not fit a unidimensional model, yielded at best a 3-factor model, and exhibited differential item functioning (DIF) across healthy subjects versus people with patellar tendinopathy. Conclusion: VISA-P in its present form does not satisfy a measurement model and is not a robust scale for measuring patellar tendinopathy. A new PROM for patellar tendinopathy should be developed and appropriately validated, and meanwhile, simple pain scoring (e.g., numeric rating scales) and functional tests are suggested as more appropriate outcome measures for studies of patellar tendinopathy.
The simplified Chinese version of the Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcomes Score (KOOS) in individuals with knee osteoarthritis for mainland China: the study of reliability and validity

Abstract:Background: The Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcomes Score (KOOS) is a free clinical tool commonly used to evaluate the symptoms and functional status of patients with knee injury. For people who speak Chinese, the Hong Kong Chinese and Singapore Chinese versions are preferred. However, variations in the Chinese language and culture are influenced by the country's geography. KOOS for Mainland China has not been reported. Therefore, the current study was to cross-culturally translate the original English version into a simplified Chinese version and to investigate its psychometric properties. Methods: The simplified Chinese KOOS was obtained through forward-backward translation according to appropriate guidelines. A total of 158 individuals with knee osteoarthritis (KOA) were recruited from 13 hospitals in China to examine the psychometric properties. The test-retest questionnaire was performed at an interval of 5-7 days. Test-retest reliability and internal consistency were evaluated using the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and Cronbach's alpha, respectively. The data of the first test were used to analyse the construct validity of the simplified Chinese KOOS and Chinese SF-36 through convergent and discriminant validity using Spearman's correlation coefficient. Results: Cross-cultural translation exhibited minor cultural differences, and the questionnaire was well understood by the patients. The data from 128 patients, used for the test-retest reliability study, showed good to excellent reliability, with an ICC of 0.808-0.976 for all KOOS subscales. The Cronbach's alpha for all subscales ranged from 0.757 to 0.970, indicating acceptable internal consistency. There was a low-to-high correlation between the five domains of the simplified Chinese version of the KOOS and all domains of the SF-36 in construct validity. Conclusion: The simplified Chinese KOOS demonstrated acceptable reliability and validity. In clinical practice and research, this version can help provide valuable information on health-related quality of life for Chinese individuals with KOA in mainland China.

Abstract:Abstract Objective To determine the construct validity, reliability, and treatment goal threshold of a Thai‐language version of the 12‐item Psoriatic Arthritis Impact of Disease (Thai‐PsAID) questionnaire in patients with psoriatic arthritis (PsA). Methods This cross‐sectional study involved administering the proposed Thai‐PsAID to 117 Thai patients with PsA. Reliability was assessed by Cronbach's α test and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). Construct validity was assessed using Spearman correlation with clinical disease activity index for psoriatic arthritis (cDAPSA), the Health Assessment Questionnaire (HAQ), EQ‐5D index, and the patient‐acceptable symptom state (PASS). The optimal cutoff score of the Thai‐PsAID for minimal disease activity (MDA) was determined by receiver operating characteristic curves. Results Participants had a mean age of 49.5 years, 61 (52.1%) were female, and the median disease duration was 5 years. The median Thai‐PsAID score was 2.1, with a Cronbach's α coefficient of .95 and an ICC of 0.77. The mean time to complete the Thai‐PsAID was 2.1 min, with no missing data. The Thai‐PsAID score demonstrated a moderate correlation with the cDAPSA, HAQ, and EQ‐5D with indices (Spearman's rho of .64, .54, and −.55, respectively). The cutoff of 2.7 has 81%–84% sensitivity and 69%–85% specificity for classifying patients with MDA, satisfied PASS, and indicating no need to escalate medication. Conclusions The Thai‐PsAID is a valid, reliable, and feasible tool for measuring PsA prognosis. A cutoff of 2.7 accurately discriminates MDA and PASS and indicates no need for medication escalation. The Thai‐PsAID may be used as a standalone measure.

Psychometric validation of the adapted Traditional Chinese version of the Japanese Orthopaedic Association Back Pain Evaluation Questionnaire (JOABPEQ)

Abstract:Background: Low back pain is a common health problem encountered by various populations among different countries. This prospective study aimed to translate and cross-culturally adapt the Japanese Orthopaedic Association Back Pain Evaluation Questionnaire (JOABPEQ) into Traditional Chinese and to assess its validity, reliability and sensitivity in Chinese patients experiencing low back pain. Methods: Double forward and single back translation of the JOABPEQ was performed with cross-cultural adaptation. By convenience sampling, the final version of the translated JOABPEQ was administered to Chinese patients attending a specialty outpatient clinic with a history of back pain, followed by the traditional Chinese versions of Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) and Short Form-12 version 2 (SF-12v2). Construct validity of the domains were assessed using Spearman's correlation test. Internal consistency was assessed by Cronbach's alpha (α). Sensitivity of the adapted JOABPEQ was determined by known group comparisons. Results: A total of 100 patients were recruited. The translated JOABPEQ demonstrated excellent overall internal consistency (α: 0.912); and good internal consistency for the domains of Lumbar Function, Walking Ability, Social Life Function and Mental Health (α: 0.811, 0.808, 0.788, and 0.827 respectively). Scores of all domains of the translated JOABPEQ had significant correlations (p < 0.01) with ODI at all domains, as well as with almost all domains of SF-12v2 (p < 0.01-0.05). The translated JOABPEQ was sensitive in detecting differences in patients with/without a history of previous spine surgery, and also between patients with acute/acute on chronic versus chronic pain in specific domains. Conclusions: The Traditional Chinese version of JOABPEQ has satisfactory psychometric properties in general, including adequate clinical and construct validity, and internal consistency in assessing Southern-Chinese patients with low back pain. It is demonstrated as a sensitive outcome measure. The translated JOABPEQ is verified for its use in the local clinical setting for patient assessment and future research.
Translation and Psychometric Analysis of the Indonesian Versions of the Lysholm and Tegner Scores for Patients With Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injuries

Abstract:Background: The Lysholm knee score and Tegner activity scale are frequently used patient-reported outcome measures in patients with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries because of their excellent psychometric properties. These questionnaires were originally developed in the English language. Purpose: To translate and cross-culturally adapt these measures into the Indonesian language and study their validity and reliability so that they can be used in the Indonesian-speaking population with ACL injuries. Study design: Cohort study (diagnosis/symptom prevalence); Level of evidence, 2. Methods: After a forward-backward translation procedure and cross-cultural adaptation, validity and reliability were investigated. A total of 253 patients with an ACL injury were sent 4 questionnaires (36-Item Short Form Health Survey, Kujala anterior knee pain scale, Indonesian Lysholm knee score [I-LK], and Indonesian Tegner activity scale [I-TS]). The responses of those patients were analyzed. Following COSMIN guidelines, construct validity, test-retest reliability, internal consistency, floor and ceiling effects, and measurement errors were determined. The Bland-Altman method was used to explore absolute agreement. Results: A total of 106 patients (42% response rate) were included in this study. Construct validity was considered to be good, as more than 75% of the predefined hypotheses on correlations between the I-LK, I-TS, and other measures were confirmed. Reliability proved excellent, with a high test-retest correlation for both questionnaires (intraclass correlation coefficient = 0.99). Bland-Altman analysis showed no systematic bias between testing and retesting. The internal consistency of the I-LK was good (Cronbach alpha = 0.73). For the I-LK and I-TS, floor and ceiling effects were less than 15% (floor: 0% and 4.7%, respectively; ceiling: 12.3% and 3.8%, respectively); the standard error of measurement was 1.8 and 0.9, respectively; the minimal detectable change at the individual level was 5.1 and 0.6, respectively; and the minimal detectable change at the group level was 2.4 and 0.5, respectively. Conclusion: Both the I-LK and I-TS appear to be good evaluation tools for Indonesian-speaking patients with an ACL injury.
Comparison of Psychometric Properties of the Original and Brief Version of the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia

Abstract:Introduction: Some accurate tools exist to assess fear-avoidance behavior, such as the Tampa scale for kinesiophobia (TSK) in individuals with musculoskeletal problems. The current research aims to compare the psychometric characteristics of the original Persian 17-items TSK questionnaire and its 11-item brief version in chronic non-specific low-back pain (CNSLBP). Materials and Methods: In this test development study, 295 patients with CNSLBP referred to the physiotherapy clinic of Milad Hospital in Tehran city, Iran were evaluated. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and α Cronbach was conducted to assess the validity and reliability of the original and brief Persian version of the TSK, respectively. For goodness-of-fit, the Χ2/df, root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA), goodness-of-fit index (GFI), and comparative fit index (CFI) indices were used. Results: Internal consistency specified by Cronbach’s α was 0.949 for the original version of the questionnaire and 0.927 for the brief one. Based on the CFA findings, the goodness-of-fit indices for the brief version were GFI=0.921, RMSEA=0.078 (90% confidence interval (CI), 0.062%-0.094%), comparative fit index (CFI)=0.981, and Χ2/df=2.791. These indices for the original one were 0.882, 0.066 (90% CI, 0.055%-0.076%), 0.983, and 2.270, respectively. A significant correlation was found between these two versions (P<0.001). These findings confirm the adequacy of the brief version of the TSK. Conclusion: The brief Persian version of TSK can be considered a reliable and valid tool to evaluate somatic focus and activity avoidance in patients with CNSLBP.

Abstract:Abstract Objectives The Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia (TSK) is a valid and reliable tool to assess somatic focus and activity avoidance in patients. Currently, the test-retest reliability and measurement error for the Danish version is unknown. The aim of the study was to determine standard error of measurement (SEM) and smallest detectable change (SDC) for three Danish lengths of the TSK in patients with chronic pain. Methods Waiting-list patients (n = 77) completed the TSK-17 twice from home with a test interval between 7 and 14 days. Based on COSMIN recommendations, the test-retest reliability was estimated using intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC 2,1 ), and measurement error in terms of standard error of measurement (SEM agreement ) and SDC95% were calculated. Results All three versions showed good test-retest reliability with ICC 2,1 -values (CI95%) of 0.86(0.79–0.91), 0.88(0.82–0.92) and 0.87(0.81–0.92) for the TSK-17, TSK-13, and TSK-11. The SEM-values were 3.08, 2.42 and 2.10 respectively and SDC95%-values were 8.53, 6.71 and 5.82. Conclusions The Danish versions of TSK-11, TSK-13 and TSK-17 showed good to excellent test-retest reliability. SEM and SDC95% values in patients with chronic pain are reported. The TSK-11 did not show systematic bias between test and retest and may be preferred to minimize responder burden.
