Abstract:We have developed a protocol for efficient synthesis of indolin-2-ones from benzofuranones and aryl amines using iodine as a mediator. A diverse range of benzofuranones and aryl amines undergo cross-dehydrogenative coupling and amidation of 3-aryl benzofuranones for the cascade reaction to generate products in 24-93% yields. This reaction can be easily scaled-up to give an indolin-2-one in a gram scale. Further chemical manipulation of the products enabled useful transformations of the phenol ring including alkylation, arylation, etc.

Abstract:An efficient [bis-(trifluoroacetoxy)iodo]benzene (PIFA)-mediated oxidative C-N bond formation is developed for the synthesis of 1H-indazoles from readily available arylhydrazones. The reaction tolerates a wide range of functional groups and has broad scope of substrates. Moreover, this method is a relative green and reliable method for rapid preparation of substituted 1H-indazoles under mild conditions.

Abstract:Herein, we report the first intramolecular C-N bond formation of phenylpropanamide derivatives via organocatalytic oxidative reactions, affording 3,3-disubstituted oxindole derivatives with up to 99% yield. The high efficiency of this reaction is exemplified by the transition metal-free mild conditions and the ability to perform the reaction on a gram scale. Meanwhile, the DFT calculation of the catalytic oxidative transformation pathway has also been studied.

Abstract:An efficient approach for the synthesis of 2,2-disubstituted indolin-3-ones is described. From readily accessible aryl hydrazines and allyloxyketones, 2,2-disubstituted indolin-3-ones could be obtained in good to excellent yields under mild reaction conditions via a cascade Fischer indolization/Claisen rearrangement process. This protocol provides a facile entry to 2,2-disubstituted indolin-3-ones, which have been applied in the construction of the benzofuroindo-line framework related to Phalarine.

This method provides an efficient approach to multifunctionalized 1,3-dihydroindol-2-ones with a broad range of functional group tolerance. Abstract:Herein, we report an iodine‐catalyzed protocol for cross‐coupling of 2‐aryl‐1,3‐indandiones with alkenes. Divergent reactivity was achieved in the transformation by varying additives and solvents, thus allowing selective access to tertiary alkylated ketones and alkenes. The present approach features commercially available starting materials, broad substrate scope, general functional‐group (including halogen, ester, nitrile, thioether)tolerance. Furthermore, we proposed plausible pathways to rationalize the divergent selectivity through preliminary mechanism study.

Abstract:A novel and efficient method for the synthesis of nucleophilic 2-monoarylated indole-3-ones via palladium-catalyzed direct C(sp(3))-H arylation of indole-3-ones with aryl halides has been developed. Various 2-monoarylated indole-3-ones were readily obtained with yields up to 95%. As a class of important nucleophilic intermediates, 2-monoarylated indole-3-ones can be used for the construction of C2-quaternary indolin-3-one skeletons.

Abstract:A novel palladium-catalyzed decarboxylative coupling reaction of vinyl benzoxazinanones with arynes which may feature an intramolecular nucleophilic attack of an amino group at the central carbon of π-allylpalladium intermediate has been developed. The cis-5,5a,6,10b-tetrahydroindeno[2,1-b]indoles were generated in moderate to good yields. One key to the success of the present reaction was to achieve comparable rates for the palladium-catalyzed decarboxylation and aryne formation steps.

Abstract:An efficient and metal-free method for the synthesis of 3-aryl pyrido[1,2-a]indoles from aryne intermediates and 2-pyridinyl-substituted p-QMs was successfully developed under ambient conditions. The reaction offers a novel and practical protocol to access some diverse functional molecules in good to excellent yields. The proposed mechanism indicated that the reaction route proceeded via a formal [3 +2] cycloaddition step.

Abstract:A facile and efficient method for the synthesis of 1,2-dihydropyrrolo[3,4-b]indol-3(4H)-one derivatives via a two-step reaction has been developed. The starting materials of 1H-indole-2-carboxylic acid, aldehyde, and amine are mixed and refluxed in ethanol to generate Mannich products, which are dehydrated in the presence of 2-(7-aza-1H-benzotriazole-1-yl)-1,1,3,3-tetramethyluroniumto form the desired products, 1,2-dihydropyrrolo[3,4-b] indol-3(4H)-ones.

Abstract:We have developed a practical and efficient one-pot protocol for the synthesis of 2,3-diarylindoles via Pd-catalyzed bis-arylative cyclization of various o-ethynylanilines with aryl iodides. Mechanism studies showed that a Pd-catalyzed Sonogashira reaction took place firstly, giving an internal alkyne intermediate, which subsequently underwent intramolecular aminopalladation/cross-coupling to give access to 2,3-diarylindoles. The present methodology exhibits a broad substrate scope, producing various 2,3-diaryl indoles bearing two different aryl groups.

Abstract:An efficient approach for the preparation of tetracyclic indeno[1,2-b]indoles via Rh(III)-catalyzed C-H cascade annulation between arylhydrazines and diazo indan-1,3-diones has been established. In addition, a series of indeno[1,2-b]indoles were obtained in up to 96% yield with a wide range of substrates and high functional group tolerance. Finally, the diverse transformations of the desired products demonstrate the synthetic utility and utilization of this protocol.

Abstract:A convenient BF3 center dot Et2O-catalyzed Friedel-Crafts cyclization of iodinated allylic alcohols is reported. The present reaction provides an efficient protocol to 3-iodo-1H-indene derivatives in good to high yields under mild conditions. Further, the iodoindene derivatives are valuable synthetic building blocks for elaboration of molecular complexity, such as in the construction of multiaryl substituted indenes by Suzuki coupling reaction.

Abstract:The Rh(III)-catalyzed regioselective C2-H bond carbenoid insertion/cyclization of N-amidoindoles with α-acyl diazo compounds has been developed. This method provides a novel approach to 2H-pyrimido[1,6-a]indol-1-ones with a broad range of functional group tolerance. Abstract:Novel methods involving the chemoselective N-H or C-2 arylation for the synthesis of indolo[1,2- a]quinoxalin-6-ones and 2,3'-spirobi[indolin]-2'-ones starting from indole-2-carboxamides were developed. When reactions were carried out using ZnI2 as catalyst and Ag2CO3 as oxidant, indolo[1,2- a]quinoxalin-6-ones were synthesized in up to 86% yields via intramolecular N-H/C-H coupling, whereas the dearomative cyclization reactions were realized in the presence of TfOH, resulting in C-2 arylation of indole through C-H functionalization or a Fridel-Crafts alkylation reaction to give 2,3'-spirobi[indolin]-2'-ones in moderate to excellent yields.
