Abstract:MOF-on-MOF (ZIF-67@MIL-125) derived S-scheme Co3O4@C-TiO2 (Co@Ti) homologous heterojunction is fabricated with a precisely regulated d-band center by constructing tight interface to enhance the Fenton-like activity. The regulation of d-band center of Co@Ti enhances the peroxymonosulfate (PMS) adsorption and the electron transfer rate, boosting the chloroquine phosphate (CQ) degradation rate constant by more than 20 times. Moreover, the self-made reactor adopting Co@Ti/graphite felt (GF) as immoblized catalyst accomplished long-term and continuous 100.0% CQ degradation efficiency in the simulated pulluted aqueous solution formulated from tap water up to 168.0h. For the first time, the newly-developed feature-based molecular networking (FBMN) technique is applied to analyze the intermediate products of CQ, which improved the efficiency and accuracy in analyzing intermediate products of various micropollutants. This work provides valuable guidance to regulate electronic structure of the catalyst by constructing MOF-on-MOF derived homologous heterojunctions with tight interface for enhanced Fenton-like ability toward water purification.
Insights into the Synergistic Effect of Fe and Ce in Fenton-like Reactions Catalyzed by Chitosan/feooh/ceo2 Microspheres

Abstract:In recent years, significant progress has been made in the development of Fenton-like catalysts suitable for operation under neutral conditions. In this study, chitosan/FeOOH/CeO2 microspheres were developed using a straightforward coprecipitation method. The catalysts are simple to prepare, cost-effective, and suitable for largescale production. In the presence of 60 mmol/L of H2O2, the catalysts achieved a 98% removal efficiency for 50 mg/L of OTC in simulated wastewater within 30 min at a wide pH range of 3-9. The excellent performance of the catalysts was mainly attributed to the formation of a CeO2-FeOOH heterogeneous structure resulting from the combination of CeO2 and the FeOOH matrix. In addition, the CeO2-FeOOH heterogeneous structure increased the concentration of oxygen vacancies on the surface of CeO2 and allowed the catalyst spheres to maintain a specific surface area of 103.7 m2/g even when the diameter increased to 1.73 +/- 0.16 mm. Density functional theory calculation and other supporting results revealed that Ce(III) served as the primary active centers responsible for the adsorption and activation of H2O2, while Fe(II) at the heterojunction facilitated the regeneration of Ce(III). This study provides insight into the development of efficient catalysts and the fundamental mechanisms of water treatment processes.
TiO2/Schwertmannite nanocomposites as superior co-catalysts in heterogeneous photo-Fenton process.

Abstract:The heterogeneous photo-Fenton reaction is an effective technique in combating organic contaminants for both soil and water remediation, and extensive studies have focused on enhancing its efficiency and reducing its costs. In this work, we developed novel photo-Fenton catalysts by simply milling commercially available TiO2 (P25) with Schwertmannite (Sh), a natural iron-oxyhydroxysulfate nanomineral. We expect that the photo-generated electrons from TiO2 could continuously migrate to Sh, which then could enhance the separation of electron-hole pairs on TiO2 and accelerate the reduction of Fe(III) to Fe(II) on Sh, leading to high degradation efficiency of the target organic contaminants. SEM and TEM results showed the distribution of TiO2 on Sh surface for the nanocomposites (TiO2/Sh). Under simulated sunlight irradiation, the much higher content of Fe(II) was determined on TiO2/Sh than on Sh via a common method in the iron ore, and the consumption of H2O2 and the production of •OH were more significant in the TiO2/Sh system than those in the TiO2 and Sh systems. These results well support our hypothesis that the photo-generated electrons could migrate from TiO2 to Sh on the composites, and can also explain the much higher degradation efficiency of Rhodamine B (RhB) in the TiO2/Sh system. Besides, TiO2/Sh had lower Fe dissolution as compared with Sh, and retained high catalytic stability after four repeated cycles. Above merits of the TiO2/Sh composites, in combining with their simple synthesis method and low-cost property, indicated that they should have promising applications as heterogeneous photo-Fenton catalysts.
Preparation of acidic Fe-SiO2 catalyst and its catalytic reactivity in photo-Fenton reaction

Abstract:The acid-activated Fe-SiO2 composites were synthesized using tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) as the silica source, cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as the template and salts of Fe as the iron sources. After finishing the preparation, these samples were characterized using scanning electron microscopy for the morphology of the catalysts, X-ray diffractometer for the dispersibility of Fe, and Fourier transform infrared spectrometer for the surface groups. To investigate catalytic activities, various photo-Fenton reactions have been conducted to decontaminate the direct red 4BS simulated wastewater under visible light irradiation. The results indicated that the sample possessing its iron source from FeSO4 had better dispersibility, but lower activities and stability than that from Fe (NO3)3. At initial pH of 6.0, both FS/1 and FS/6 not only led to 100% decolorization of a solution containing 100 mg/L direct red, but also about 79% and 99% total organic carbon were removed in respective system after reaction for 120 min. The kinetics study showed that a model in combination of first order and second order reactions was suitable for this acid-catalyzed process. Analyses of solvent-leaching stability and iron leaching demonstrated these catalysts may have long-term stability.

The Surface Confinement of FeO Assists in the Generation of Singlet Oxygen and High‐Valent Metal‐Oxo Species for Enhanced Fenton‐Like Catalysis

Abstract:The incorporation of FeO in Fe3O4 is modulated by pyrolyzing the MIL‐88A precursor. Its promotion of the non‐radical species production in PMS activation is confirmed, in which the dominant 1O2 selectively attacked the dimethylamine group to achieve rapid TC degradation. DFT explained that PMS molecules present a polarization of charge distribution on the FeO facets, energetically favoring non‐radical species production. Transition metal compounds (TMCs) have long been potential candidate catalysts in persulfate‐based advanced oxidation process (PS‐AOPs) due to their Fenton‐like catalyze ability for radical generation. However, the mechanism involved in TMCs‐catalyzed nonradical PS‐AOPs remains obscure. Herein, the growth of FeO on the Fe3O4/carbon precursor is regulated by restricted pyrolysis of MIL‐88A template to activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for tetracycline (TC) removal. The higher FeO incorporation conferred a 2.6 times higher degradation performance than that catalyzed by Fe3O4 and also a higher interference resistance to anions or natural organic matter. Unexpectedly, the quenching experiment, probe method, and electron paramagnetic resonance quantitatively revealed that the FeO reassigned high nonradical species (1O2 and FeIV═O) generation to replace original radical system created by Fe3O4. Density functional theory calculation interpreted that PMS molecular on strongly‐adsorbed (200) and (220) facets of FeO enjoyed unique polarized electronic reception for surface confinement effect, thus the retained peroxide bond energetically supported the production of 1O2 and FeIV═O. This work promotes the mechanism understanding of TMCs‐induced surface‐catalyzed persulfate activation and enables them better perform catalytic properties in wastewater treatment.

Abstract:A novel Fe2O3-ZrO2 catalyst was prepared by the sol-gel method, and investigated for phenol degradation in the Fenton-like reaction under neutral pH condition. The ZrO2 addition increased the surface areas of the catalyst. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showed that ZrO2 nano-particle dispersed on the surface of Fe2O3. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) indicated that the Fe2+ amount increased with the increase of the Zr content on the surface. The Fe2O3-ZrO2 catalyst produced hydroxyl radicals (OH center dot) and superoxide radicals (O-2(center dot-)/HO2 center dot), and exhibited good catalytic performance in the reaction. Total phenol conversion and 56% TOC removal were achieved after 210 min under neutral pH at 60 degrees C in the heterogeneous Fenton-like reaction. In addition, the prepared Fe2O3-ZrO2 catalyst had good magnetism.
Coating CoFe 2 O 4 shell on Fe particles to increase the utilization efficiencies of Fe and peroxymonosulfate for low-cost Fenton-like reactions

Abstract:Bimetallic composites (Fe@CoFe 2 O 4 ) with zero-valent Fe as the core encapsulated by CoFe 2 O 4 layers are synthesized by a coprecipitation–calcination method, which are applied to activate PMS for the degradation of bisphenol A (BPA). Enhanced activity of Fe@CoFe 2 O 4 is achieved with very fast degradation rate ( k o bs = 0.5737 min −1 ). In the fixed-bed reactor, the catalyst lifetime (t ul ) of Fe@CoFe 2 O 4 is determined to be 22 h compared to 11 h of Fe, and the deactivation rate constant ( k d ) for Fe@CoFe 2 O 4 is 0.0083 mg·L −1 ·h −1 , only ∼1/10 of Fe (0.0731). The XPS results indicate that the core-shell structure of Fe@CoFe 2 O 4 could promote the redox cycles of Co 3+ /Co 2+ and Fe 3+ /Fe 2+ . It is proved that the coating of CoFe 2 O 4 shell on Fe 0 can protect the Fe 0 core from being oxidized by PMS to form passivation layer. The electrons of Fe 0 can therefore be used effectively for activating PMS to produce ROSs via the CoFe 2 O 4 shell. This modification method of Fe 0 would decrease the cost of PMS based wastewater remediation greatly, thus should have great potential on an industrial scale.

Abstract:A new heterogeneous Fenton catalyst, Fe-Cu bimetallic oxides supported aluminum-containing MCM-41, was synthesized by co-precipitation method. The physicochemical characteristics of the synthesized samples were evaluated by various techniques such as XRD, TEM, nitrogen physisorption, zeta potential and XPS. The incorporation of metal species did not alter the well-ordered hexagonal mesostructure of MCM-41 support. Compared with the monometallic or the Al absent catalysts, this new bimetallic oxides supported aluminum-containing MCM-41 catalyst exhibited a higher activity and stability in phenol mineralization. The effects of temperature, pH and H2O2 dosage were investigated in terms of the TOC conversion. At pH 4, 60°C and 0.049mol/L of H2O2 dosage, a 47% TOC reduction has been achieved. With incorporating aluminum, the increase in surface oxygen-containing groups was observed by zeta potential analysis, the downshift binding energy of active metals was found by XPS measurement, and an enhancement of H2O2 utilization ratio was achieved. On the basis of our findings, the beneficial role of Al has been explained.
Trace Amount CoFe2O4 Anchored on a TiO2 Photocatalyst Efficiently Catalyzing O-2 Reduction and Phenol Oxidation

Abstract:Semiconducting TiO2 is the most studied photocatalyst for organic oxidation by O-2. To accelerate the reaction, a cocatalyst for O-2 reduction or for organic oxidation is often used, but the bifunctional one is rare. Herein we report a spinel CoFe2O4 (CF) efficiently catalyzing O-2 reduction and phenol oxidation on TiO2 in aqueous suspensions at pH 3-11. The composite materials (CF/TiO2) were made by depositing 0-5 wt % CF onto TiO2 through a hydrothermal method. Solid characterization showed that CF nanoparticles (5 nm) homogeneously distributed in CF/TiO2, whereas the TiO2 phase remained unchanged in crystal structure and crystallite size. For phenol oxidation under UV light, CF was nearly not active, but 0.01 wt % CF/TiO2 was more active than TiO2, by approximately a factor of 3.6. Such trend in activity among the catalysts was also observed from the photocatalytic reduction of O-2 to H2O2 from the electrochemical reduction of O-2, and from the photoelectrochemical oxidation of phenol and H2O. An open-circuit potential and photoluminescence measurement suggest that there is an interfacial electron transfer from TiO2 to CF, followed by O-2 reduction. Accordingly, a possible mechanism is proposed, involving CF catalysis for O-2 reduction and phenol oxidation. Then the mutual promotion between electron and hole transfer results in great enhancement in the efficiency of charge separation and hence in the rate of chemical reaction. Because spinel compounds have rich composition and unique structures, they are worthy of being further investigated as cocatalysts of a semiconductor photocatalysis.
Acceleration of traces of Fe3+-activated peroxymonosulfate by natural pyrite: A novel cocatalyst for improving Fenton-like processes

Abstract:The use of cocatalyst in Fenton-like reactions has been demonstrated as a reliable approach to improve their efficiency via accelerating the circulation of Fe3+/Fe2+. In this study, we for the first time used natural pyrite (FeS2) as a Fenton-like cocatalyst to improve the reactivity of Fe3+ instead of the widely investigated molybdenum disulfide that releases potential harmful molybdenum ions. The presence of FeS2 significantly improved the degradation of sulfamethoxazole (SMX) by Fe3+-peroxymonosulfate (PMS); near complete removal of SMX by FeS2-Fe3+-PMS was achieved, while no obvious removal of SMX by Fe3+-PMS was noticed. Meanwhile, the surface area-normalized rate constant of SMX degradation by FeS2-Fe3+-PMS was more than 18 times higher than that by MoS2-Fe3+-PMS. FeS2-Fe3+-PMS worked effectively in a wide range of pH values from 3.0 to 10.0. Although hydroxyl radicals, sulfate radicals, superoxide anion radicals, and singlet oxygen were recorded by electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy, only sulfate radicals were mainly responsible for the degradation. Sulfide ions were identified as one of the intermediates, but the reactive species generated by their interaction with PMS did not contribute to the degradation. FeS2 had a good stability by continually accelerating the circulation of Fe3+/Fe2+. The findings from this study reveal a highly efficient cocatalyst for Fenton-like reactions.
Construction of dual active sites on diatomic metal (FeCo−N/C-x) catalysts for enhanced Fenton-like catalysis

Abstract:High metal loading of single-atom catalysts enables excellent catalytic activity, but possibly causes serious aggregation problem. Herein, a series of diatomic FeCo−N/C-x (x represents metal content) were skillfully designed and applied to improve the catalytic activity for peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation toward degrading organic micropollutants. The unprecedented dual active sites, referring to Fe(N3)−Co(N3) moiety and FeCo alloy, are constructed on the obtained FeCo−N/C-x, thereby exhibiting significantly greater performance toward degrading aqueous phenol (e.g., 0.316 min−1 for FeCo−N/C-3) via PMS activation, compared with those of traditional single-atom Co−N/C (0.011 min−1) and Fe−N/C (0.018 min−1). Combined experimental and theoretical calculations demonstrate the independent functions of dual active sites, in which Fe(N3)−Co(N3) and FeCo alloy can decrease the energy barrier of O−O bond cleaving resulting in the formation of high-valent FeCoO reactive species and singlet oxygen, respectively. This study opens up a new platform toward constructing dual active sites for enhanced Fenton-like catalytic activity.
Broad Spectral Response FeOOH/BiO2−x Photocatalyst with Efficient Charge Transfer for Enhanced Photo-Fenton Synergistic Catalytic Activity

Abstract:In this work, to promote the separation of photogenerated carriers, prevent the catalyst from photo-corrosion, and improve the photo-Fenton synergistic degradation of organic pollutants, the coating structure of FeOOH/BiO2−x rich in oxygen vacancies was successfully synthesized by a facile and environmentally friendly two-step process of hydrothermal and chemical deposition. Through a series of degradation activity tests of synthesized materials under different conditions, it was found that FeOOH/BiO2−x demonstrated outstanding organic pollutant degradation activity under visible and near-infrared light when hydrogen peroxide was added. After 90 min of reaction under photo-Fenton conditions, the degradation rate of Methylene Blue by FeOOH/BiO2−x was 87.4%, significantly higher than the degradation efficiency under photocatalysis (60.3%) and Fenton (49.0%) conditions. The apparent rate constants of FeOOH/BiO2−x under photo-Fenton conditions were 2.33 times and 3.32 times higher than photocatalysis and Fenton catalysis, respectively. The amorphous FeOOH was tightly coated on the layered BiO2−x, which significantly increased the specific surface area and the number of active sites of the composites, and facilitated the improvement of the separation efficiency of the photogenerated carriers and the prevention of photo-corrosion of BiO2−x. The analysis of the mechanism of photo-Fenton synergistic degradation clarified that ·OH, h+, and ·O2− are the main active substances involved in the degradation of pollutants. The optimal degradation conditions were the addition of the FeOOH/BiO2−x composite catalyst loaded with 20% Fe at a concentration of 0.5 g/L, the addition of hydrogen peroxide at a concentration of 8 mM, and an initial pH of 4. This outstanding catalytic system offers a fresh approach to the creation and processing of iron-based photo-Fenton catalysts by quickly and efficiently degrading various organic contaminants.

Abstract:The sluggish Fe3+/Fe2+ cycling and nanocatalyst agglomeration are still the great challenge to limit the industrial application of Fenton-like process. Herein, Fe-Zn alloy catalysts with micro-nano dendritic morphology were prepared by a simple electrodeposition method with FeSO4•7H2O and ZnSO4•7H2O as metal sources, which were characterized using SEM, EDS, XRD and XPS. The effects of electrolyte composition, current density and electrodeposition time on the performance of the catalysts were investigated. Compared with zero-valent iron (ZVI) or zero-valent zinc (ZVZ), the obtained Fe-20Zn catalysts displayed satisfactory Fenton-like degradation properties, which could almost completely remove phenol within 20 min and be repeatedly used for six times. The removal rate of phenol slowed down with the increase of cycle times. It took 180 min for the sixth time to remove 95.14% phenol, due to the zinc loss, nanosheets degradation and zero-valent iron species oxidation on the surface. Through free radical scavenging experiment, it was confirmed that hydroxyl radical was the main active specie in phenol degradation. The degradation mechanism demonstrated the dominant role of Zn in promoting Fe(III)/Fe(II) cycle for improving phenol degradation performance. This study will promote the application of bimetallic Fenton-like catalyst in wastewater treatment containing organic contaminants.

Traumatic aortic disruption: false positive diagnosis on transesophageal echocardiography.

Abstract:A case is described in which there was a high index of suspicion for traumatic aortic disruption. Because angiography was equivocal, transesophageal echocardiography was performed, and interpreted as showing a noncircumferential aortic tear. At thoracotomy, however, no tear was seen. The false positive interpretation was caused by a crescent-shaped atherosclerotic plaque.

Abstract:Fenton or photocatalytic degradations of organic contaminants are recognized as promising approaches to address the increasing environmental pollution issues. Herein, we develop the effective synergistic catalysis reaction of Fenton and photocatalysis based on a loofah sponge-like Fe2Ox/C nanocomposite, which exhibits excellent nitrobenzene photocatalytic degradation property. It is noted that Fe2O3 nanoparticles with surface Fe2+ species were encapsulated with an ultrathin carbon layer (denoted as Fe2Ox/C) via a supramolecular self-sacrificing template and following thermal treatment process. The experimental results indicated that the thin layer carbon coating not only inhibited the Fe iron leaching from the Fe2Ox but also prompted the separation and transferring of electrons-hole pairs. The introduction of Fe2Ox/C enables the Fenton reaction to induce a rapid Fe2+/Fe3+ cycle, and meanwhile, together with the photocatalytic reaction to produce continuous active substances for the subsequent degradation catalytic reaction without successive H2O2, resulting in the inexpensive and the effective photocatalytic procedure. As a result, 100% nitrobenzene (100 mg/L) was degraded and 97% of the organic carbon was mineralized in 90 min using the Fe2Ox/C (0.1 g/L) at a low H2O2 dosage (0.50 mM), under air mass (AM) 1.5 irradiation. Theoretical calculations confirmed that the Fe2Ox/C-600 with thin carbon layer promoted the dissociation of H2O2 and the ·OH desorption. The synergistic catalysis of this work may provide new ideas for low-cost and more efficient treatment of pollutants.

Abstract:A novel dual Photo-Fenton photocatalyst Fe2O3-Fe-CN with excellent Fe(III)/Fe(II) conversion efficiency and trace metal ion leaching rate has been fabricated by in-situ deposition of α-Fe2O3 quantum dots on ultrathin porous Fe-doped carbon nitride (Fe-CN) nanosheets. The iron species in Fe-CN and α-Fe2O3 QDs constitute a mutually reinforcing dual Photo-Fenton effect. The 4% Fe2O3-Fe-CN showed superior performance with kobs values 8.60 and 4.80 folders greater than pure CN and Fe-CN, respectively. The synergistic effect between α-Fe2O3 QDs and the ultrathin porous structure of Fe-CN is the primary reason for the outstanding catalytic performance exhibited by α-Fe2O3/Fe-CN. On one hand, the ultrathin porous structure of Fe-CN promotes the rapid transfer of photogenerated electrons. On the other hand, the efficient photogenerated charge separation at the α-Fe2O3/Fe-CN interface enables more photogenerated electrons to participate in the Fe3+/Fe2+ conversion and H2O2 activation. The trapping experiments demonstrate that •OH and •O2- are the primary active species in TC degradation. This work presents novel insights into the design of efficient heterogeneous Fenton catalysts for practical applications.

Abstract:This study demonstrated the prolonged benefits of polyvinyl-coated calcium peroxide () in Fe(II)/nFeS mediated Fenton-like reaction. was prepared by a coating of PVA on calcium peroxide (CP) and synthesized nano-sized iron sulfide (nFeS) was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM) with energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) elemental mapping, X-ray diffractometry (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES) and Fourier transmission infrared (FTIR) techniques. Trichloroethylene (TCE) degradation in various oxic environments (H2O2, CP, or ) was investigated using Fe(II)/nFeS, and the slowest rate constant of 0.031 M−1 min−1 with 91 % TCE removal highlighted the long-lasting effects of The effect of initial solution pH revealed that the acidic condition was most favorable. system accumulated the least amount (6.34 mg/L) of Fe(III) than H2O2 and CP systems. Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and scavenging tests highlighted that free hydroxyl radicals (HOfree) contributed dominantly in H2O2 system while both free and surface-bound species participated well in CP and systems. Moreover, the insight mechanism of regenerated Fe(II) on the nFeS surface was explored by XPS. Both oxidation and reduction of sulfur were discussed and declared that S(-II) was responsible for regenerating Fe(II). The recycling sample checked the reusability of nFeS, and 98.8 % TCE removal in actual groundwater emphasized that /Fe(II)/nFeS is a viable technique. In conclusion, the /Fe(II)/nFeS system is highly recommended for long-lasting remediation of TCE contaminated groundwater.

Abstract:Delicate design of hierarchical and porous nanoarchitectures has become a highly effective strategy to develop novel bimetallic catalyst with improved stability and catalytic performance. Herein, a core-shell hierarchical 4A zeolite/ Fenton-like catalyst with 4A zeolite/Fe as core components and two-dimensional Cu hydroxide nanosheets assemblies as shell structure was fabricated through a simple and scalable approach and used for phenol degradation. The results indicated that 4A zeolite/ bimetallic catalyst had higher catalytic activity and utilization efficiency of H2O2 than that of 4A zeolite/Fe and 4A monometallic catalysts at near neutral pH. In the presence of H2O2, the 4A zeolite/ bimetallic catalyst could remove 95.3 % phenol after 4 h at pH 5, which was much higher than that of monometallic catalyst under the same condition. The enhanced activity of 4A zeolite/ was ascribed to the synergistic effect between the 4A zeolite/Fe (core) and two-dimensional Cu hydroxide nanosheets (shell). More importantly, the copper hydroxide nanosheets with open network structure on the surface of 4A zeolite/ improved the stability of the Fe(III) at acidic conditions, and avoided reduced catalytic efficiency of Fe(III) caused by embedding effect. This strategy provided guidance to the design of high-performance bimetallic Fenton-like catalysts.

Abstract:In the traditional Fenton process, the efficient generation of hydroxyl radical (HO) strongly relies on an acidic circumstance and the iron ions would precipitate and form large amounts of hazardous iron-containing sludge at alkaline pH. To realize stable heterogeneous Fenton-like catalytic degradation at alkaline condition, Fe3O4 submicrospheres with SiO2 coating were successfully synthesized by using water glass as the silica sources via a facile ultrasound assisted method. The as-obtained Fe3O4@SiO2 spheres were further used as catalysts for the Fenton-like degradation of tetracycline hydrochloride (TC). The Fe3O4@SiO2 submicrospheres exhibited superior catalytic activity in higher pH environment (pH value = 11), and the degradation efficiency toward TC was ca. 80% after ten successive runs. The kinetics for the catalytic degradation of TC were agreed well with the second-order kinetic model. The reaction rate constant (k) over the Fe3O4@SiO2 submicrospheres at a pH value of 11 was 7.69 times greater than that at a pH value of 3. Reactive species scavenging experiments revealed that HO and superoxide radical (O2- / HO2-) played a dominant role during the Fenton-like degradation of TC at pH 3 and pH 11, respectively. Possible Fenton-like degradation pathways of TC were proposed through the identification of intermediates using the high performance liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS), which involved cleavage of methyl groups, N-dimethyl group, and hydroxy groups, ring-opening reaction, etc. The degradation efficiency of TC was close to 91.5% and total organic carbon (TOC) in solution was eliminated by about 41.4% at the optimized conditions. In a word, with the unique acidic surface properties and abundant Si-OH bonds, the Fe3O4@SiO2 submicrospheres exhibited well dispersion, good catalytic activity, strong alkali resistance and excellent recyclability in an ultrasonic-Fenton-like system.
