Research on Growth Shift and Gravity Centre Moving Route of Port System and Urban Economy in Bohai-Rim Region

Abstract:Bohai-Rim region is one of the three cores of the economic development in China.In these few years,the harbor has been developing with great speed and its economy is also being more flourishing.In the meantime,the port regionalization,which leads to the increasing importance of harbors in the regional economy,is getting observable.Thus,studying port system evolution and its correlation with the development of harbor cities,is really significant for understanding the interactive development and economic transformation of Bohai-Rim region.In this study,several methods like uneven index,gravity centre analysis and shift-share analysis,are adopted to understand the Bohai-Rim region's port system and the space features of developing harbor cities relationship and situation.It is concluded as follows:1) An obvious spatial correlation exhibits as a result of the overall port development and urban economic construction.The development of some major ports has reached a phase of maturity in Dalian,Qingdao,Tianjin and other districts,resulting in good interaction with the economic development of urban hinterland.On the other hand,small and medium ports are in growth and development period whereby the relation between port and city is closer.However,they are not correlated at a certain period.2) Overall,the imbalance index of city and port size indicators show a decline.3) The centre of the city and port size are basically stable within the same region while having a relatively small volatility.4) Total scales of cities and ports in the Bohai-Rim region maintain a positive growth between 1998 and 2014.The development of ports and hinterland cities are comparatively synchronous.The ports support the development of harbour cities significantly.
