Abstract:Rolling and tethering of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) on the surface of endothelium are critical steps during cancer metastasis.Simulating the motion and stress sustained of circulating tumor cells under different microcirculation flow conditions is an important basis for studying the adhesion between circulating tumor cells and vessel walls. In this paper, the motion and deformation of several kinds capsule transported under several flow configurations are numerically studied by using the immersed boundary method (IBM).The margination and adhesion of CTCs are studied for different vessel diameters, hematocrit (Ht) values and capillary numbers (Ca).The simulation results show that thevessel diameter,Ca and Ht has profound effects on membrane stress of CTCs.As the vessel diameter increased or Ca reduced, the membrane stress would reduce with the effect of decreasing wall shear rates. In addition, larger Ht leads to larger stress on the CTC membrane with the effect of cell-cell interaction.
