Abstract:This study investigates manufacturer guarantor financing (MG) and third‐party logistics (3PL) guarantor financing (LG) in a four‐party supply chain game that features a manufacturer, a 3PL, a capital‐constrained retailer, and a bank. The manufacturer or 3PL can act as the guarantor for the retailer who borrows bank credit. Two different leadership structures are investigated, namely, Nash game and manufacturer leadership Stackelberg game, where the manufacturer and 3PL decide simultaneously and sequentially, respectively. The supply chain under both leadership structures prefers guarantor financing to traditional bank financing when the supply chain is sufficiently cost‐efficient. In the Nash game, however, firms encounter a free‐rider dilemma when choosing between MG and LG, wherein both potential guarantors prefer the other to be the guarantor. This free‐rider dilemma can be resolved in the Stackelberg game. We also observe the follower–guarantor advantage in the Stackelberg game, wherein all firms favor the follower to provide guarantor financing. Our analysis shows that the supply chain under guarantor financing with a longer decision hierarchy (i.e., the Stackelberg game) can be conditionally more effective than that with a shorter one (i.e., the Nash game). By further analyzing different cost structures, pricing mechanism, and retailer’s initial capital, we find that most of our qualitative results remain accurate under more sophisticated conditions. These findings enhance our understanding of the value of guarantor financing in a capital‐constrained supply chain and the impact of leadership structure on financing decisions.

Abstract:This study investigates trade credit and early payment financing in a three-party supply chain consisting of a manufacturer, a capital-constrained distributor, and a retail platform. The manufacturer or the platform provides the financing service to the distributor. Two different leadership structures are investigated, namely, platform and manufacturer leadership Stackelberg game, where the platform or manufacturer first makes the decision, respectively. Under trade credit financing, the manufacturer and the whole supply chain face loss when the commission rate increases. However, under buyer financing, they benefit from the high commission rate. Under platform leadership, the distributor, the manufacturer, and the supply chain perform better with trade credit if and only if the commission rate is small or the production cost is high, while the platform always prefers buyer financing. Under manufacturer leadership, the distributor, manufacturer, and supply chain perform better with trade credit under low production cost and commission rate. The platform prefers trade credit when production cost is in the intermediate range. By further analyzing the case that both financing channels are available and the distributor decides which one to choose, we find that the financing services competition hurts only the platform’s profits. And under certain conditions, trade credit and early payment can achieve the same performance for every supply chain member. These findings enhance our understanding of the supply chain risk allocation efficiency of trade credit and early payment financing under different leadership structures. Neither risk allocation form outperforms the other, and the relative efficiency depends on supply chain characteristics.
Research on Decision-Making and Value of Supply Chain Financing with Accounts Receivables

Abstract:In this paper,we consider a supply chain with a supplier,a downstream buyer and a financial institution,where the supplier is facing financial constraints.We construct a multi-stage decision-making model with or without accounts receivable financing,respectively.After our analysis,we get the expected profits of participants in the supply chain in all stages.Through numerical analysis,we further research the values of the supply chain financing with accounts receivables to supply chain members and the entire supply chain.Our work shows that,small and medium suppliers without financing couldn′t produce in succession,but could when they get accounts receivable financing,and they also could produce optimal production in a shorter period in a fast-growing market.When there is supply chain financing,the buyer may achieve sustained earnings growth because he receives continuous supply,and he benefit more from accounts receivable financing when the seller has more initial capital.The financial institution gets large financing income when the seller has less initial capital,but he will gain less benefit when the seller become strong enough.The small and medium suppliers,buyer and financial institution all benefit from accounts receivable financing.

Abstract:In green supply chains, many small manufacturers are troubled by both operating and green innovation capital constraints. Despite the importance, green supply chain finance (GSCF) is still under-explored. This study investigates two internal collaborative GSCF schemes namely the partial credit guarantees scheme (PCG) and the deferred payments with bank trade credit financing scheme (DP-with-BTCF), as well as an external investment scheme (EI), to analytically explore (i) the optimal role that the supplier should play in internal schemes (i.e., guarantor or creditor) and (ii) the preferences of the manufacturer on the internal and external schemes. First, we interestingly find that compared with the no-capital-constraint scenario, the manufacturer will reduce its green investments even with the financial assistance provided by the supplier. However, the manufacturer may order more no matter whether the supplier takes the role of guarantor or creditor as the repayment responsibility of the manufacturer is limited. Second, we counter-intuitively find that although the supplier needs to bear the whole bankruptcy risk when acting as a creditor (i.e., using DP-with-BTCF), it maybe still promising owing to the increased manufacturer ordering quantity. Third, whether the manufacturer prefers internal or external financing schemes is shown to depend on bank interests and the manufacturer’s revenue sharing ratio with external investors. Last, we explore the conditions under which the supplier and manufacturer have the same or different preferences on the financing schemes, which can derive useful insights for practitioners when designing GSCF schemes.

Abstract:Supply chain finance plays a significant role in alleviating capital shortage, which optimizes supply chain performance. In this paper, we discuss the interaction of credit financing and channel encroachment in a dual-channel supply chain structure consisting of a supplier and a retailer. Under the Stackelberg structure, we observe the interaction between credit financing and channel encroachment is heavily dependent on the substitution degree, potential online market, and production cost. Intuitively, the supplier is more likely to choose trade credit financing, except in the case where both the potential online market, substitution degree, and production cost are small; under these conditions, bank credit financing may be an equilibrium strategy. As long as the production cost is below a certain threshold, the supplier will choose the trade credit financing strategy.

Abstract:We consider financing and coordinating issues in a supply chain with one supplier (she) and one manufacturer (he), where the supplier is capital-constrained and her production yield is random. Facing shortage of capital, the supplier may use two financing sources to facilitate her production: bank loan from a commercial bank, or advance payment from the manufacturer. Taking the supply chain with centralized control as a benchmark, we analyze the optimal decisions of the two members in the supply chain. We find that in the optimal decisions, the supplier chooses only one, instead of a combination, of the two financing sources, and the manufacturer is always willing to pay in advance to finance the supplier’s production. Furthermore, we propose to use the pay back contract (as well as cost-sharing contract as an extension) for the manufacturer to share the production risk and stimulate the supplier to improve the production yield. Finally, assuming the bargaining process of the supplier and the manufacturer being a Nash bargaining game, we show that the pay back contract under the two sources of financing (bank loan and advance payment) can coordinate the supply chain and flexibly allocate the total profit in the supply chain.

Abstract:Credit insurance is a new loan guarantee contract which can effectively stimulate domestic demand and promote consumption. According to different modes of payment, individual credit loan guarantees mainly include credit insurance and guarantee insurance. In this paper, we apply the Complete Information Game to analyze the strategies of the insured subject and the risk subject under different scenarios of personal loan guarantee, and obtain the influencing factors of each decision-making subject in supply chain finance. The conclusion shows that the credit status of individual loan applicants greatly affects the decision-making of supply chain financial entities such as banks. Based on this, this paper puts forward corresponding suggestions for the credit insurance business management.

Abstract:With respect to a two-echelon supply chain which comprised of a core manufacturer and a capital-constrained supplier, this paper analyzed the effect of government subsidy to the accounts receivable financing in the context of third-party partial guarantee. Based on the decentralized decision-making model without and with government subsidy, from the perspective of promoting the guarantee coefficient of the third-party guarantee, this paper studied how government subsidy impacts the supply chain coordination. The results show that government subsidy can reduce financing risks and costs, but not the bigger the better. Supplier’s profit, manufacturer’s profit and whole supply chain profit Pareto is also improved. In the range of a reasonable government subsidy coefficient, the higher government subsidy coefficient, the higher supply chain financing efficiency and supply chain coordination. Finally, this paper conducts some numerical experiments to verify the results.

Abstract:By applying Stackelberg game theory, this paper investigates the supply chain with a risk-neutral retailer and a risk-averse supplier, measuring risk-averse behavior by using conditional value-at-risk (CVaR). The equilibrium solutions of the supplier's wholesale price and the retailer's order quantity are obtained under two financing strategies: supplier financing (SF) and supplier investment (SI). It is found that the supplier's risk aversion is a crucial factor affecting both parties' financing decisions, and the supplier should offer different financing strategies to the retailer based on his risk attitude and the profit-sharing coefficient. However, the retailer prefers SF regardless of the supplier's risk aversion. Taking bank credit financing as a basic model, the advantages of SF and SI have been investigated. A Pareto improvement region for the two finance strategies has been identified and some suggestions are provided for the supplier's optimal utility. Then we extend to the situation that both parties are risk-averse and use the financing cost-sharing mechanism to achieve centralized decision-making.

Abstract:Green product development depends on the green innovation behavior of upstream and downstream companies in the supply chain. This paper focuses on a green supply chain consisting of a supplier and a manufacturer and considers two financing schemes wherein the manufacturer's operating capital and green innovation capital are both constrained: bank credit financing (BCF) and supplier green investment (SGI). We investigate the financing strategy of a manufacturer with different financing decision preferences and supply chain coordination contract designs. The results show that when the manufacturer's financing decision preference is low bankruptcy risk, it should choose BCF when the bank loan interest rate is lower than a threshold and SGI when the bank loan interest rate is higher than this threshold; when the manufacturer's financing decision preference is high R&D benefit, it should choose BCF when the initial capital is lower than another threshold and choose SGI when the initial capital is higher than this threshold. Then, we compare whether cost-sharing, quantity discount and revenue-sharing contracts can coordinate the supply chain, and discuss the selection strategies of supply chain members for coordination contracts. Research shows that revenue-sharing contracts fail to coordinate; however, when the cost-sharing ratio and quantity discount rate are appropriate, both cost-sharing and quantity discount contracts can achieve supply chain coordination. The lower the supplier's unit production cost, the stronger its motivation to accept a higher cost-sharing ratio and quantity discount rate. For the supplier, the key to choosing any coordination contract lies in the relative height of the cost-sharing ratio and quantity discount rate while the manufacturer should always choose a quantity discount contract when the quantity discount rate is high enough.

Abstract:<p>Small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) often have challenges to obtain bank financing for their operations, due to strict risk control of banks and low credit rating of SMEs. In recent years supply chain finance (SCF) has become promising solutions to alleviate SMEs' financing problem, which takes advantage of supply chain integrity and relies on core enterprises to promote SMEs' financing. In this paper, by taking the risk of financing participants into account, we set up a framework of SCF based on a general supply chain contract. We discuss the equilibrium strategies under three financing modes respectively and the bank's decision-making, thereafter we analyze the financing mode decision under the general financing framework. We show that the wholesale price decision is related to the initial working capital of the retailer. Also, the critical initial working capital is affected by demand distribution, supply chain contract and interest rate. Moreover, reasonable wholesale price can eliminate SCF risk and guide the retailer's ordering and the bank's interest rate decision. Finally, the efficient working capital management can help the retailer to select reasonable financing mode, and all three financing modes have their own applicability.</p>

Considering the mode of external financing, we obtain the optimal order decision of the capital constraint retailer, the optimal financing rate and the optimal wholesale price of the supplier and analyze the effects of owned capitals of retailer on the optimized decision-making of supply chain financial system. Abstract:We study a two-echelon supply chain consisting of a capital-constrained retailer ordering via the option contract to satisfy uncertain demand from a single supplier. The retailer can apply for either a bank loan or trade credit from the supplier whenever necessary. In addition to economic revenue, the supplier has a relationship concern and takes the retailer's revenue into consideration. By developing a Stackelberg game, we analyze the ordering and financing problems in the supply chain. The results show that in the presence of the retailer's bankruptcy risk, the supplier should always finance the retailer at the risk-free interest rate. Given the supplier's offer, the retailer will always prefer to raise money from the supplier due to the lower interest rate. Meanwhile, under trade credit, the supply chain's efficiency is improved when the production cost is high but decreased when the production cost is low. Furthermore, our results show that the supplier's relationship concern can improve the supply chain's efficiency and the retailer's revenue most of the time, but increase the retailer's bankruptcy risk when the production cost is high, implying that the supplier's attempt to help the retailer eventually harms its long-run survival.

Abstract:<p>This study investigates a supply chain financing (SCF) system with one supplier and one emission-dependent and capital-constrained manufacturer. Unlike the traditional SCF, the manufacturer borrows two loans to execute the ordering decision and make a low-carbon investment, respectively. We derive the equilibrium strategies of the supply chain members under partial credit guarantee (PCG) and a combination of trade credit and PCG and compare with that under a benchmark (well-funded manufacturer). There exists a unique coefficient of credit guarantee for the supplier to decide whether to provide a trade credit. Numerical studies and extension are discussed to obtain more managerial implications.</p>
Financing a Dual Capital-Constrained Supply Chain: Profit Enhancement and Diffusion Effect of Default Risk

Abstract:Supply chain finance (SCF) benefits participants by alleviating capital constraints and generating additional profits but also brings a host of disadvantages. This study examines and compares how various SCF schemes affect participants’ profits and the contagion and diffusion effects of default risk in a dual capital-constrained supply chain. This study used a game theoretical approach to investigate a dual capital-constrained supply chain. The financially constrained manufacturer and retailer may be funded by bank credit or trade credit from their upstream participants, forming four financing structures. The findings suggest that although trade credit offered by the manufacturer brings more profits to the supply chain participants than bank credit, it increases the expected losses of the creditors and incurs both the contagion and diffusion effects of default risk. Pure bank financing cannot completely coordinate the supply chain but can control the contagion and diffusion effects of default risk. These effects are also weakened over time. The findings offer implications for participants who implement financing and operational actions to improve their performance and control the contagion and diffusion effects of default risk along a supply chain.
The Impact of the Scale of Third-Party Logistics Guaranteeing Firms on Bank Credit Willingness in Supply Chain Finance: An ERP Study

Abstract:Supply chain financing guaranteed by third-party logistics (3PL) firms is an effective way to solve the financing difficulties of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Studies have explored factors that affect the willingness of supply chain financial credit providers under guarantee of 3PL firms (e.g., the scale of financing enterprises and credit). However, whether the scale of 3PL firms will affect the bank’s credit decision has not been studied, as well as the neural processing of credit decisions. To clarify these issues, this study extracted behavioral and event-related potentials (ERPs) data when participants performed a selection task of judging whether to grant credit to guaranteed financing-seeking enterprises according to the large or small scale of the 3PL guaranteeing firms. The behavioral results showed that under the condition of a large-scale 3PL guaranteeing firm, the willingness to provide credit to SMEs was higher than that under the condition of a small-scale 3PL guaranteeing firm. This finding indicates there was credit scale discrimination against 3PL guaranteeing firms in supply chain finance. The ERP results showed that compared with the condition of a large-scale 3PL guaranteeing firm, a greater N2 amplitude was induced under the condition of a small-scale 3PL guaranteeing firm, which indicated that credit decision makers experienced greater perceived risk and more decision-making conflict. In contrast, a larger LPP amplitude was detected under the condition of a large-scale 3PL guaranteeing firm (as opposed to a small-scale firm), which indicated that large-scale 3PL guaranteeing firms received more positive comments and more positive emotions from credit decision makers than small-scale 3PL guaranteeing firms. Based on these results, this study reveals the cognition process of credit decision makers regarding the impact of the 3PL guaranteeing firm scale on the willingness to provide credit in supply chain finance and explains the theory of credit scale discrimination from the perspective of decision neuroscience.

Abstract:This paper focuses on financing schemes for a supply chain with high salvage values of unsold products. Combining the buyback contract with a partial credit guarantee (PCG) contract and trade credit (TC) contract, we propose two financing schemes, PCG-Buyback and TC-Buyback, to provide flexible financing services for a capital-constrained retailer and obtain equilibrium strategies of each supply chain member. Furthermore, for PCGBuyback, this paper obtains a Pareto coordination frontier consisting of the credit guarantee coefficient and the buyback price at different initial capital levels, which is more flexible to achieve supply chain coordination. Finally, we analyze the manufacturer’s strategic choices of PCG-Buyback and TC-Buyback in terms of credit guarantee coefficient, buyback price, and financing rate. Our results show that PCG-Buyback is the optimal financing scheme for the manufacturer when both the credit guarantee coefficient and buyback price (or financing rate) are low; otherwise, TC-Buyback is the dominant strategy. This study explores how the risk-sharing mechanism combination of PCG and buyback contracts can provide a more flexible approach to supply chain coordination. Additionally, it highlights the significance of the manufacturer selecting a better financing scheme based on its individual characteristics.

Abstract:The optimal procurement decision of a two-echelon green supply chain with options under capital constraints and financing credit support is studied. At the beginning of the order lead time, the retailer with capital constraints purchases fixed order quantity and options, and exercises all or part of the options during the sales period. We consider two types of credit financing methods: supplier financing and bank financing. At the same time, the non-financing situation is used as a benchmark model, where we find that there is a threshold for the retailer’s working capital. That is, the retailer only purchases a fixed order when the working capital is less than the threshold. When working capital gradually increases, the retailer will reduce fixed order quantity and increase option order quantity, which shows that options are a risk hedging tool for the retailer. In addition, we find that the benefits of supply chain members are higher than those of the benchmark model regardless of supplier financing or bank financing, and cleaner production will bring more benefits to supply chain members. We find that the retailer is a free rider in the green supply chain. Given the corresponding parameters and the form of demand function, we can decide whether to choose supplier financing or bank financing. Finally, numerical examples are given.
Optimal combination of platform channel contract and guarantee financing strategy in e-commerce market

Abstract:With the development of economy and technology, e-commerce platforms can connect consumers and online channel suppliers providing transportation services through third-party logistics (3PL). To help these suppliers, especially small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with financing dilemmas, this paper proposes evidence on the members of the e-commerce supply chain providing procurement and financial assistance. Many partner enterprises offer various innovative financing schemes, such as guarantee financing. To examine the advantage in practice, we study the guarantee financing in the online channel of e-commerce market, which includes capital constrained SME suppliers, e-commerce platforms, 3PLs and banks. We analyze the equilibrium of the optimal combination strategy with channel sales mode and guarantee financing scheme, and explore the conditions under which this innovative financing scheme will benefit all members. It is more feasible for the SME supplier to seek the e-commerce platform (or the 3PL) guarantee financing with high (low) platform service construction cost compared with bank loans without guarantee. This preference comes from the trade-off between the potential market demand risk in sales season and the financing risk of the debtor. We further determine how the release on the sales mode of platform is affected by the guarantee financing scheme. No matter who guarantees, the platform tends to provide the reselling (marketplace) mode when the market demand risk is flat (high). With the increasing of investment in platform's service construction, the platform is more (less) willing to switch the role from the non-guarantor to the guarantor in the reselling (marketplace) mode. The reason is that the e-commerce platform and the 3PL prefer to act as non-guarantor to obtain free-riding benefits, especially in the marketplace mode. Results of this paper provide theoretical support for the innovative financial practice of the e-commerce industry.
