We discuss microseismic data-processing and imaging workflows designed to produce subsurface images of comparable quality and interpretability to seismic reflection data but at a significantly better resolution. These techniques are applied to a microseismic data set from the Permian Basin in the West Texas. Comparison of microseismic and seismic image volumes not only confirms the expected uplift in resolution of the former over the latter but also reveals how faults identified in surface seismic acquired prior to the reservoir stimulation connect to discontinuities, presumably hydraulic fractures, that express the post-stimulation state of the reservoir.Presentation Date: Wednesday, October 14, 2020Session Start Time: 1:50 PMPresentation Time: 2:40 PMLocation: 360CPresentation Type: OralKeywords: microseismic, imaging, Kirchhoff, unconventionalPermalink: https://doi.org/10.1190/segam2020-3399804.1FiguresReferencesRelatedDetailsCited byMicroseismic at HFTS2: A Story of Three Stimulated WellsVladimir Grechka, Bo Howell, Zhao Li, Denise Furtado, and Collin Straus1 December 2021References20 August 2020 SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts 2020ISSN (print):1052-3812 ISSN (online):1949-4645Copyright: 2020 Pages: 3887 publication data© 2020 Published in electronic format with permission by the Society of Exploration GeophysicistsPublisher:Society of Exploration Geophysicists HistoryPublished Online: 30 Sep 2020 CITATION INFORMATION Vladimir Grechka, Zhao Li, Sainatha Yathams, Ramya Ravindranathan, and Denise Furtado, (2020), "Microseismic reservoir imaging in the Permian Basin," SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts : 2059-2063. https://doi.org/10.1190/segam2020-3399804.1 Plain-Language Summary KeywordsmicroseismicimagingKirchhoffunconventionalPDF DownloadLoading ...
