Abstract:A stochastic consensus problem is studied for a class of continuous-time multi-agent systems with a leading agent. The systems have a switching coupling topology driven by a homogeneous Markov process. The unknown coupling functions among agents are nonlinear or even discontinuous. Under some constraints on the unknown coupling functions, a sufficient condition is provided to guarantee stochastic consensus. The condition is in the form of a linear matrix inequality, which is computationally convenient.

Abstract:This paper addresses the consensus region design and analysis problem of fractional-order multi-agent systems, where time-invariant communication topology consisting of general linear node is considered. To achieve consensus, a fractional-order observer-type consensus protocol based on relative output measurements is proposed. The notion of consensus region for fractional-order dynamic is introduced and analyzed. The consensus region can be designed by an observer-type protocol if and only if each agent is stabilizable and detectable. A multi-step consensus protocol design procedure is presented for given consensus region. Several numerical simulations are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the theoretical results.

Abstract:This paper investigates the consensus control problem of linear and nonlinear multi-agent systems, where the dynamics of each agent is represented by a fractional-order differential equation, respectively. By using the fractional Lyapunov direct method and matrix theory, some sufficient conditions are presented to ensure that the states of the followers can asymptotically converge to the leader, and the feedback matrix of the proposed protocol is also determined according to linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) formulation. A simulation example is provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the obtained theoretical results.

Abstract:Leader-following consensus of fractional order multi-agent systems is investigated. The agents are considered as discrete-time fractional order integrators or fractional order double-integrators. Moreover, the interaction between the agents is described with an undirected communication graph with a fixed topology. It is shown that the leader-following consensus problem for the considered agents could be converted to the asymptotic stability analysis of a discrete-time fractional order system. Based on this idea, sufficient conditions to reach the leader-following consensus in terms of the controller parameters are extracted. This leads to an appropriate region in the controller parameters space. Numerical simulations are provided to show the performance of the proposed leader-following consensus approach.

Abstract:This paper investigates the consensus problem of observer-based boundary control for fractional-order multi-agent systems (FOMASs). First, it is assumed that the state of the systems cannot be directly measured. State observers are proposed when there are only outputs of partial spatial domain and spatial boundary. In addition, two boundary controllers based on estimated states are proposed, namely, collocated boundary measurement form and distributed boundary measurement form, to achieve the consensus of FOMASs. The sufficient conditions for achieving consensus are obtained by employing fractional inequality and the Mittag-Leffler function. Lastly, two examples are given to verify the validity of the results.

Abstract:This paper concentrates on the adaptive control for consensus of fuzzy singular fractional order multi-agent systems (FOMASs) under the fractional order . The objective of this paper is to design reasonable adaptive controllers to bring the modeled to a group consensus state. Firstly, to increase the interference resistance of the controller, a novel adaptive fuzzy non-fragile output feedback control law is designed for the fuzzy singular FOMASs. Then, the algorithm to determine the system group consensus is proposed with fewer decision variables. Furthermore, by using Lyapunov direct method, the lower bound is given, and then, closed-loop system is ultimately bounded. Finally, numerical simulations are performed to verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Abstract:SummaryThis article focuses on the consensus problem of leader‐following fractional‐order multi‐agent systems (MASs) with general linear and Lipschitz nonlinear dynamics. First, the distributed adaptive protocols for linear and nonlinear fractional‐order MASs are constructed, respectively. We allow the control coupling gains to be time varying for each agent. Moreover, the adaptive modification schemes for the control gain are designed, which renders smaller control gains and thus requires smaller amplitude on the control input without sacrificing consensus convergence. Second, based on fractional‐order Lyapunov stability theorem and Barbalat's lemma, two novel sufficient conditions in terms of linear matrix inequalities are provided to ensure that the leader‐following consensus can be obtained in the case for any undirected connected communication graph. Furthermore, we show that the proposed algorithm also works for consensus of agents with intrinsic Lipschitz nonlinear dynamics. As a result, the proposed framework requires no global information and thus can be implemented in a fully distributed manner. Finally, the numerical simulations are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of obtained the theoretical results.

Abstract:In this paper, several consensus problems are studied for fractional-order double-integrator multi-agent systems, where the order of fractional derivative belongs to (0, 1). Both continuous-time and sampled-data based consensus protocols are proposed for absolute and relative damping cases, respectively. For the continuous-time protocols, consensus is achieved by using the connection between integer-order and fractional-order multi-agent systems. For the sampled-data based protocols, convergence analysis is provided by using the Hermite–Biehler theorem, which is used to deal with the stability of a polynomial with complex coefficients. It is shown that the consensus value is a function of the initial conditions for the absolute damping case, while the consensus value is related to the initial conditions and the time for the relative damping case. In addition, some examples are provided to validate the correctness of the main theorems.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate consensus control of fractional-order multi-agent systems with order in (0,1) via sampled-data control. A new scheme to design distributed controllers with rigorous analysis is presented by utilizing the unique properties of fractional-order calculus, namely hereditary and infinite memory. It is established that global boundedness of all closed-loop signals is ensured and asymptotic consensus is realized. Simulation studies are conducted to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed control method and verify the obtained results.

Abstract:This paper investigates the distributed event-based controller to deal with the leader-following consensus tracking problem of linear multi-agent systems with fractional-order dynamics. By designing effective distributed event-triggered mechanism, every agent determines when to send local status information to its own neighbors, to relieve the communication burden of network. Given by the impact of fractional-order dynamics, we use the fractional Lyapunov method to obtain a sufficient condition, which guarantees that each follower can keep up the designated leader. Besides, the feasibility of control strategy is guaranteed by providing a positive lower bound on the triggering interval, which excludes the Zeno behavior. Lastly, a numerical simulation is presented to validate proposed strategy.

Abstract:Transactions of the Institute of Measurement and Control, Ahead of Print. This article addresses the problem of time-varying formation control when the fractional derivatives of the expected formation are different from the fractional multi-agent system. To achieve the infinite convergence of the relative position among agents, the synthetic error of the agent is introduced. Then according to the sliding mode control theory, the sliding mode function is designed based on the defined error. The time-varying formation control problem converts into the asymptotic stability problem of the system. Sufficient conditions for fractional-order multi-agent systems are derived by employing the Lyapunov stability theory, matrix theory, graph theory, and property of fractional-order systems. Finally, two numerical simulations are presented to validate the theoretical analysis.

Abstract:This paper investigates the consensus problem of general nonlinear fractional order multi-agent systems in a directed network under event-triggered mechanism. First, observers are designed for every agent based on the outputs of them. Second, taking the constrains of communication bandwidth and storage space into consideration, the uniform quantizers are used for each channel. Then, the consensus criteria related with the general algebraic connectivity of communication topology under event-triggered mechanism are derived, furthermore, the Zeno behavior is excluded. Finally, an example is given to shown the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

The communication graphs are allowed to be general directed graphs. An observer-based distributed controller is proposed such that global finite-time consensus tracking is achieved with bounded control inputs. A simulation example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy.

Abstract:This paper investigates the leader-following consensus of fractional-order uncertain multi-agent systems (FOUMASs) with time delays. Based on algebraic graph theory, Lyapunov stability theory, Laplace transform and linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), some sufficient conditions are achieved to realize leader-following consensus of FOUMASs. In addition, such results can be extended to the case of directed topologies and FOUMASs without time delays. Through numerical simulations, the authenticity and validity of results are verified.

Abstract:This paper investigates the tracking problem of fractional-order multi-agent systems. Both the order and parameters of the leader are unknown. Firstly, based on the positive system approach, the asymptotically stable criteria for incommensurate linear fractional-order systems are derived. Secondly, the models of incommensurate heterogeneous multi-agent systems are introduced. To cope with incommensurate and heterogeneous situations among followers and the leader, radial basis function neural networks (RBFNNs) and a discontinuous control method are used. Thirdly, the consensus criteria are derived by using the Vector Lyapunov Function method. Finally, a numerical example is presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed theoretical method.

Adaptive Neural Consensus for Fractional-Order Multi-Agent Systems With Faults and Delays

Abstract:This article investigates the consensus control for a class of fractional-order (FO) nonlinear multi-agent systems (MASs). Severe sensor/actuator faults and time-varying delays are both considered in the FO MASs. The severe faults may cause unknown control directions in MASs. A new adaptive controller, which is composed of a distributed FO Nussbaum gain, an FO filter, and an auxiliary function, is presented to deal with the severe faults. To cope with the time-varying delays, two different methods are proposed based on barrier Lyapunov function and Lyapunov-Krasovskii function, respectively. Meanwhile, the radial basis function neural network (RBF NN) is applied to approximate the unknown nonlinear functions during the design procedures. This can result in a low-complexity controller. Finally, two simulation examples are used to verify the validity of the proposed schemes.

Abstract:This work investigates the guaranteed cost leader-following consensus of a class of uncertain fractional-order (FO) multi-agent systems (FOMASs) affected by state time delay. The leader and following group are exposed to norm-bounded time-varying parametric uncertainty and time-delay. A delay- and order-dependent consensus protocol is developed that guarantees robust stability of the controlled system and ensures that the effect of uncertainty on the system performance is bellow some prescribed index. The FO Razumikhin theorem and the linear matrix inequality approach are adopted to derive the method, which can be applied to FOMASs with deterministic parameters. The analysis can be extended to distinct consensus problems for different types of FOMASs. Three numerical examples illustrate the effectiveness and feasibility of the approach.

Abstract:Generally, nature is understood and explored from the point of view of integer order, however, lots of physical systems in complex practical environments can exhibit the fractional-order (non-integer order) dynamics, which can better reveal the essential properties, behaviors and the law of basic development. A novel fractional-order model with time-delay is built and the fractional-order controllability problem of networked multi-agent systems (MASs) is discussed. Comparing with the integer-order controllability problem for MASs, the fractional-order controllability problem of MASs not only needs to consider the dynamics of the agent itself, the communication and connection between the agents and the protocols followed by the evolution of the agent undefined state, but also to consider the order number of MASs. It is also shown that the fractional-order controllability of MASs with time-delay only lies on the communication interaction from the leaders to followers and the order number of such system, but time-delay has no effect on the controllability via the controllable rank criterion. Some computationally efficient conditions of the fractional-order controllability for MASs with time-delay are obtained based on fixed and switching topologies, respectively.

Abstract:The consensus control of fuzzy multi-agent fractional order interval systems (MA-FOISs) is proposed in this brief. Firstly, a new model of fuzzy MA-FOISs based on the non-fragile observer is presented. Then, by using the technologies of generalised matrix singular value decomposition (SVD) and linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), the sufficient conditions for determining the consensus of fuzzy MA-FOISs are given through the equivalence of the stability and the consensus of multi-agent systems (MASs). Moreover, when the actual system does not need to be described by the fuzzy set, the consensus conditions for the MA-FOISs are given. Finally, the validity of the results given are illustrated by the numerical example.

Abstract:This study investigates the finite-time consensus control problem for a class of mixed-order multi-agent systems (MASs) with both stochastic noises and nonlinear dynamics. The sub-systems of the MASs under consideration are heterogenous that are described by a series of differential equations with different orders. The purpose of the addressed problem is to design a control protocol ensuring that the agents' states can achieve the desired consensus in finite time in probability 1. By using the so-called adding a power integrator technique in combination with Lyapunov stability theory, the required distributed consensus control protocol is developed and the corresponding settling time is estimated. Finally, a simulation example is given to demonstrate the correctness and usefulness of the proposed theoretical results.
