Abstract:The iron-catalyzed highly Markovnikovtype selective and enantioselective hydrosilylation of terminal aliphatic alkenes with good functional group tolerance is developed. This operationally simple protocol uses earth-abundant transition metal catalyst, readily available aliphatic alkenes and hydrosilanes to construct valuable chiral organosilanes with better than 99% ee in most cases. The chiral aliphatic alkan-2-ol and chiral dihydroxysilane as an analogue of ketone could be efficiently synthesized via further derivatization of chiral organosilanes without any racemization.

Abstract:The general protocol for site-specific alkylation of anilines and phenols would provide an ideal strategy for affording densely functionalized aniline and phenol derivatives. Herein, we disclose a new iridium-catalyzed and acid-promoted process for selective para -alkylation of anilines and phenols using aryloxy or alkoxy aryl alkynes as the alkylated sources, delivering a wide range of para - C -alkylated phenols and anilines in good to excellent yields. The low catalyst loading (up to 0.05 mol%), scale-up of synthesis, operation under air conditions, as well as recycling of catalyst (5 times without deactivation) evidenced the promising application in organic synthesis.

Abstract:Here, we reported for the first time an iron-catalyzed highly enantioselective hydrogenation of minimally functionalized 1,1-disubstituted alkenes to access chiral alkanes with full conversion and excellent ee. A novel chiral 8-oxazoline iminoquinoline ligand and its iron complex have been designed and synthesized. This protocol is operationally simple by using 1 atm of hydrogen gas and shows good functional group tolerance. A primary mechanism has been proposed by the deuterium-labeling experiments.

Abstract:An efficient method for the highly regio‐ and stereoselective synthesis of 1,2,3‐trisubstituted indanes from diarylmethanols and allylamides through iron(III) chloride hexahydrate‐catalyzed intermolecular [3+2] cycloaddition reaction is reported. A range of 1,2,3‐trisubstituted indanes were prepared in good to excellent yields with excellent stereoselectivities for various combinations of diarylmethanols and allylamides. The choice of solvent is critical to the catalysis. Mechanistic studies indicated that the generation of a benzylic cation is involved in this catalytic process, and the reaction proceeds via the initial formation of diarylmethyl ethers. Abstract:Thioethers have been proven to be reliable directing groups for palladium catalyzed alkenylation of arenes via C-H activation. Mechanistic investigation reveals that the C-H cleavage of arenes is the turnover-limiting step, and an acetate-bridged dinuclear cyclopalladation intermediate is involved. The alkenylated thioethers can be easily removed and transformed into a variety of useful groups.

Abstract:Mn(I)-catalyzed selective functionalization of alkynes permits the convenient synthesis of substituted alkenes with high step and atom economies. Although the insertion of five-membered chelated manganacycle intermediates into alkynes has been widely reported, nonchelated Ar–Mn(I) species originating from commercially available arylboronic acids are unprecedented. Our new protocol achieved a challenging hydroarylation of unsymmetrical 1,3-diynes with arylboronic acids with complete regio-, stereo-, and chemoselectivity to give a wide array of trisubstituted conjugated (Z)-enynes in moderate to good yields.

Abstract:A convenient and practical approach to synthesize ortho-alkynylated arylalkylamines through ortho-selective C-H functionalization has been developed using Cbz-amide as the directing group and Ir(III) as the catalyst. Various substrates were well tolerated, affording the corresponding products in moderate to good yields. Moreover, preliminary mechanistic study revealed the role of the amide as the coordination center to cooperate with the Ir(III) complex during C-H activation. Development of this Cbz-amide-promoted CAr-H functionalization offers a practical approach with potential applications in organic synthesis.

Abstract:Using thianthrene S-oxide (TTSO) as a transient mediator, para-arylation and alkenylation of mono-substituted arenes have been demonstrated via a para-selective thianthrenation/Pd-catalyzed thio-Suzuki-Miyaura coupling sequence under mild conditions. This reaction features a broad substrate scope, and functional group and heterocycle tolerance. The versatility of this approach was further demonstrated by late-stage functionalization of complex bioactive scaffolds, and direct synthesis of some pharmaceuticals, including Tetriprofen, Ibuprofen, Bifonazole, and LJ570.

Abstract:Compared to the most popular directing-group-assisted strategy, the "undirected" strategy for C-H bond functionalization represents a more flexible but more challenging approach. Reported herein is a gold-catalyzed highly site-selective C(sp(2))-H alkylation of unactivated arenes with 2,2,2-trifluoroethyl alpha-aryl-alpha-diazoesters. This protocol demonstrates that high site-selective C-H bond functionalization can be achieved without the assistance of a directing group. In this transformation, both the gold catalyst and trifluoroethyl group on the ester of the diazo compound play vital roles for achieving the chemo-and regioselectivity.

Abstract:The first iron-catalyzed asymmetric azidation of benzylic peresters has been reported with trimethylsilyl azide (TMSN<sub>3</sub>) as the azido source. Hydrocarbon radicals that lack of strong interactions were capable to be enantioselectively azidated. The reaction features good functional group tolerance, high yields, and mild conditions. The chiral benzylic azides can further be used in click reaction, phosphoramidation, and reductive amination, which demonstrate the synthetic values of this reaction.

Abstract:Over the past three decades, organocatalysis has emerged as a powerful catalysis platform and has gradually been incorporated into the routine synthetic toolbox to obtain chiral molecules. However, its application in the site- and enantioselective functionalization of inactive aryl C–H bonds remains in its infancy. Here, we present an organocatalyst-controlled para-selective arene C–H functionalization strategy that addresses this issue, which remains an enduring challenge in arene functionalization chemistry. By emulating enzyme catalysis, the chiral phosphoric acid catalyst offers an ideal chiral environment for stereoinduction, and the projecting substituents give control of chemo- and site-selectivity. Various types of nucleophile are compatible with this method, affording more than 100 para-selective adducts with stereodefined carbon centres or axes in viable molecular contexts. This protocol is expected to provide a general strategy for para-selective functionalization of arene C–H bonds in a controlled manner.

Abstract:Selective activation of the benzylic C(sp(3))-H bond is pivotal for the construction of complex organic frameworks. Achieving precise selectivity among C-H bonds with comparable energetic and steric profiles remains a profound synthetic challenge. Herein, we unveil a site- and stereoselective benzylic C(sp(3))-H alkenylation utilizing metallaphotoredox catalysis. Various linear and cyclic (Z)-all-carbon tri- and tetrasubstituted olefins can be smoothly obtained. This strategy can be applied to complex substrates with multiple benzylic sites, previously deemed unsuitable due to the uncontrollable site-selectivity. In addition, sensitive functional groups such as terminal alkenyl and TMS groups are compatible under the mild conditions. The exceptional site-selectivity and broad substrate compatibility are attributed to the visible-light catalyzed relay electron transfer-proton transfer process. More importantly, we have extended this methodology to achieve enantioselective benzylic C(sp(3))-H alkenylation, producing highly enantioenriched products. The applicability and scalability of our protocol are further validated through late-stage functionalization of complex structures and gram-scale operations, underscoring its practicality and robustness.

Abstract:We reported a Pd/NBE cooperative catalyzed ortho C−H methylation and trideuteromethylation of arylthianthrenium salts, enabling the efficient synthesis of a wide variety of (trideutero)methylated arenes in moderate to good yields. The method demonstrates excel-lent tolerance towards functional groups, scalability, and potential extension to the late-stage functionalization of biorelevant mole-cules. In combined with C−H thianthrenation of arenes, this approach provides an effective method for the site-selective C−H (trideutero)methylation of arenes. Additionally, this reaction represents the first example of a Catellani reaction involving aryl sul-fonium salts.

Abstract:A Pd-catalyzed, meta-selective C-H arylation of nosyl-protected phenethylamines and benzylamines is disclosed using a combination of norbornene and pyridine-based ligands. Subjecting nosyl protected 2-aryl anilines to this protocol led to meta-C-H arylation at the remote aryl ring. A diverse range of aryl iodides are tolerated in this reaction, along with select heteroaryl iodides. Select aryl bromides bearing ortho-coordinating groups can also be utilized as effective coupling partners in this reaction. The use of pyridine ligands has allowed the palladium loading to be reduced to 2.5 mol %. Furthermore, a catalytic amount of 2-norbornene (20 mol %) to mediate this meta-C-H activation process is demonstrated for the first time. Utilization of a common protecting group as the directing group for meta-C-H activation of amines is an important feature of this reaction in terms of practical applications.
