Rethinking Middle Radiation Approach of Computer Networks Teaching

Abstract:As improvement of Internet technologies, traditional Internet protocol stack was extended greatly, the same Internet problem can be solved effectively by various layer scheme, from this point of view, the boundary of different layer becomes obscure. So it is critical that rethink existing teching approach of computer networks. To support the teaching of computer networks, Bottom-Up Approach (BUA) and Top-Down Approach (TDA) were proposed. In addition, Middle Radiation Approach (MRA) was proposed for students to further grasp the core of Internet protocol. First, we investigate existing teching approach, especially MRA, we find that MRA only lay emphasis on relation contrast of different layer protocol and neglects content contrast of various layer scheme for the same problem. Based on this, we make a large potential change to MRA with adding content contrast and propose a new teching method named Content-Contrast Oriented MRA (CCOMRA) to further improve the radiation intensity of MRA. A demonstrate using teaching analysis is provided showing how the teching quality of computer networks could benefit from CCOMRA.
