Abstract:The Jianfengling granite stock in the Western Nanling Range of South China, represents a highly evolved, strongly peraluminous, Li-F rich and P-poor granite system of Late Jurassic age (similar to 156 Ma). There is a distinct vertical zonation developed in the Jianfengling granite stock. Based on paragenesis, textural characteristics, and rock-forming mineral compositions, four petrographic units can be distinguished from the bottom to the top: protolithionite K-feldspar granite, zinnwaldite-albite granite, topaz greisen and greisenized granite, and stockscheider. The principal W-Sn-Ti-Nb-Ta minerals include columbite group minerals, microlite, wolframite, wolframoixiolite, cassiterite, ilmenorutile, and stravertite; these minerals exhibit continuous compositional trends related by progressive fractionation from protolithionite K-feldspar granite to topaz greisen. However, in the uppermost stockscheider, the composition of mica and W-Sn-Nb-Ta minerals show less-differentiated characteristics. In addition, the Zr/Hf ratio and REE pattern of zircon also imply that the formation of stockscheider is not from the most fractionated granitic melt stage but at the early stage caused by liquid immiscibility between aluminosilicate and hydrosaline liquids. Meanwhile, the variation of accessory mineral assemblages and W, Sn, Nb, and Ta contents of zircon may provide information about the behavior of rare-metals during volatile-rich magma evolution and subsequently the magmatic-hydrothermal transition.
