Abstract:Natural porous media exhibits the characteristics of continuously envolving scales. It is rather difficult to describe the scale effect of solute transport in the porous media with continuously envolving scales by using the traditional Advection-Dispersion Equation (ADE) and Macro Advection-Dispersion Equation based on Fick diffusion law. However, the newly developed Fractional Advection-Dispersion Equation (FADE), which is based on the Levy motion theory, is an important tool to overcome the scale effect of dispersivity with a fractional derivative when modeling the solute transport. In this paper, the FADE was extended when adding an adsorb term to describe the adsorbing solute transport. And the analytical solution for one-dimensional FADE was derived under the conditions of step input and steady state flow. A parameter estimation method and its corresponding Fortran based program named as FADEMain were developed on the basis of Non-Linear Least Square Algorithm for parameter estimation of FADE. The data sets of adsorbing solute Cd and NH4+-N transport in soil column were used to estimate the transport parameters both by FADEMain and ADE based software CXTF172.1. And also the estimated parameters were used to simulate the transport behavior of Cd and NH4+-N. Results indicate that the dispersion coefficient both for Cd and NH4+-N estimated by FADEMain shows small variability with the solute travel distance, while the dispersion coefficient estimated by CXTFIT2.1 varies with the increase of the travel distance. The concentration simulated by FADE agrees reasonably with the measured data especially in the initial lower concentration part of the concentration curve. The increasing rate of concentration predicted by FADE decreases with the increase of depth, while the increasing rate of concentration predicted by ADE shows independent of the depth. Comparing to the results predicted by ADE, the concentration curve predicted by FADE has a significant slowly increasing process in the initial lower concentration part.
