Abstract:A 32-year-old woman presented with a 2-month history of intermittent amnesia and episodes of syncope. A brain MRI indicated that the patient had either a low-grade glioma or encephalitis. A dual tracer PET/CT scan with both C-11 acetate and FDG was performed to further assess the nature of the brain abnormality. The CT images revealed a low-density lesion in the left hippocampus, which had intense FDG uptake, but was not C-11 acetate-avid. Based on the imaging results, encephalitis was considered the most likely diagnosis. The patient recovered completely following the therapy tailored to encephalitis.
