Abstract:Triphenylethylene materials have potential application value due to their simple structure, easy modification and excellent photochromic properties. Herein, a series of triphenylethylene derivatives, TrPE-o-DBT, TrPE-o-DBF, TrPE-p-DBT, and TrPE-p-DBF, have been designed and synthesized by introducing dibenzothiophene and dibenzofuran groups. Interestingly, photophysical measurements revealed that TrPE-o-DBT and TrPE-o-DBF showed distinct photochromic and fluorescent switching properties in powder state. In the crystalline state, photochromism was only observed in TrPE-o-DBT. The single crystal results indicated that the spatial arrangement of the molecules and intermolecular interactions were different due to the different positions of the rigid groups on triphenylethylene, which affected the photochromic properties. Digital light processing three-dimensional printing (DLP 3D) technology demonstrated that these materials played an essential role in information encryption. Consequently, the triphenylethylene derivatives have great potential for development and application in information storage, flexible electronics, anti-counterfeiting, bioimaging and fluorescent switches.
