Abstract:An efficient approach for the reversal of regioselectivity in the nucleophilic introduction of difluorinated carbanion into α,β-enones has been developed via a silylium catalysis. The strong electron-withdrawing properties and bulky substituents of in situ-generated silyl triflic imide catalyst is the key for the 1,4-addition reaction to proceed smoothly. The synthetic utility is highlighted by the further use of this method for the synthesis of 2,4,6-triarylsubstituted 3-fluoropyridines in a one-pot manner.

Abstract:A Cp*Rh-III-catalyzed annulative carbooxygenation of challenging 1,1-disubstituted alkenes triggered by C-H activation of N-aryloxyacetamides has been established, which affords 2,3-dihydrobenzofuran derivatives with a quaternary carbon center in good to excellent yields under mild redox-neutral conditions. An amide group on the alkenes is essential for the process, and may inhibit the beta-H elimination from C(sp3)-Rh species by saturating the rhodium center through coordination. Furthermore, mechanistic insights obtained from control experiments suggest a mechanism involving a Rh-III-Rh-V-Rh-III catalytic cycle.

Abstract:Exploration of elementary reactions in organometallic catalysis is an important method with which to discover new reactions. In this article, we report a gold(I)-catalyzed iodo-alkynylation of benzyne involving the merging of challenging migratory insertion and an oxidative addition process in gold catalytic cycle. A wide range of structurally diverse alkynyl iodides are good coupling partners in this iodo-alkynylation transformation. Both aliphatic and aromatic alkynyl iodides can react with benzynes smoothly to afford highly functionalized 1,2-disubstituted aromatics in moderate to good yields. Its good functional group compatibility and late-stage application of complex molecules demonstrate its synthetic robustness. Studies of the mechanism reveals the feasibility of oxidative addition and the DFT calculations demonstrate the possible migratory insertion of benzyne into Au-III-carbon bonds in the Au-I/Au-III redox catalytic cycle, representing an important step towards an elementary reaction in gold chemistry research.

Abstract:Herein, we have developed a novel and simple protocol to realize the C-H bond functionalization/dearomatization of naphthols and phenols with ortho-alkynylaryl-α-diazoesters under gold(i) catalysis. In this protocol, various spirocyclic molecules could be obtained in good yields with excellent chemo- and regio-selectivity and moderate to good diastereoselectivity.

Abstract:<p>Synthesis of organosilanes from alkenes is a very important topic owing to their wide applications. A Ni/Cu dual metal-catalyzed arylsilylation of terminal alkenes, featuring migratory selectivity, has been developed. A wide diversity of aliphatic silanes have been prepared from terminal alkenes, aryl halides and Suginome's reagent. This protocol is highlighted by excellent regioselectivity, mild reaction conditions and good functional group tolerance. In addition to benzylic positions, carbon-carbon bonds can also be constructed at allylic positions. Preliminary mechanistic studies suggest that the copper cocatalyst promotes the transmetalation of Suginome's reagent, and the addition of a PyrOx ligand inhibits the formation of side-products from the carbon-Heck pathway. Moreover, studies toward the nature of the PyrOx ligand revealed that the steric hindrance of the oxazoline moiety greatly affects the chain–walking process, but not the arylation step.</p><p>Alkene difunctionalization, Arylsilylation, Synergistic catalysis, Regioselectivity, Metal migration</p>

Abstract:Semihydrogenation of alkynes to alkenes represents a fundamentally useful transformation. In addition to the well-known cis- and trans-semihydrogenation, herein a geminal semihydrogenation of internal alkynes featuring 1,2 -migration is described, which provides new access to the useful terminal vinylsilanes. This process also presents a new mode of reactivity of silyl alkynes. With the proper choice of the cationic [CpRu(MeCN)(3)]PF6 catalyst and a suitable silyl group, both aryl- and alkyl-substituted silyl alkynes can participate in this highly efficient gem-selective process. Furthermore, dedicated condition optimization also allowed switching of selectivity from gem to trans by using a combination of parameters, including the suitable silyl group, additive, and H-2 pressure. A systematic DFT study on the reaction mechanism revealed that the formation of the gem-H-2 Ru carbene might be the key intermediate in both gem- and trans-addition reactions, rather than the Ru-vinylidene intermediate. The DFT results were further supported by carefully designed control experiments. This uncommon gem-addition combined with 1,2-silyl migration in the metal-carbene intermediate should open up a new synthetic avenue for alkyne transformations.

Abstract:We report a switchable synthesis of acylindoles and quinoline derivatives via gold‐catalyzed annulations of anthranils and ynamides. With an N,O‐ligand on a gold(III) catalyst α‐imino gold carbenes, in situ generated from anthranils, could undergo electrophilic attack to the aryl π‐bond followed by unexpected and highly selective 1,4‐ or 1,3‐acyl migrations to form 6‐acylindoles or 5‐acylindoles. With the JohnPhos ligand gold(I) carbenes experienced carbene/carbonyl additions to deliver quinoline oxides. Some of these epoxides represent valuable substrates for the preparation of 3‐hydroxylquinolines, quinolin‐3(4H)‐ones and polycyclic compounds via facile in situ rearrangements. The reaction can be efficiently conducted on gram scale and the obtained products are valuable substrates for preparing other potential useful compounds. A computational study explained the unexpected selectivities and the dependency of the reaction pathway on the oxidation state and ligand of gold. With gold(III) the barrier for the formation of the strained oxirane ring is too high, with gold(I) this transition state becomes accessible. Also, the barriers for the migrations of the substituents on the intermediate sigma‐complexes perfectly explain the observed substitution pattern in the final product.

Abstract:Functionalization of Si-bound methyl group provides an efficient access to diverse organosilanes. However, the asymmetric construction of silicon-stereogenic architectures by functionalization of Si-bound methyl group has not yet been described despite recent significant progress in producing chiral silicon. Herein, we disclosed the enantioselective silylmethyl functionalization involving the aryl to alkyl 1,5-palladium migration to access diverse naphthalenes possessing an enantioenriched stereogenic silicon center, which are inaccessible before. It is worthy to note that the realization of asymmetric induction at the step of metal migration itself remains challenging. Our study constitutes the first enantioselective aryl to alkyl 1,5-palladium migration reaction. The key to the success is the discovery and fine-tuning of the different substituents of α,α,α,α-tetraaryl-1,3-dioxolane-4,5-dimethanol (TADDOL)-based phosphoramidites, which ensure the enantioselectivity and desired reactivity.

Abstract:1,2-migration is one recurring isomerization reaction in organic chemistry. In contrast, double 1,2-migration remains rare and limited to transition-metal complexes. Herein, we describe the synthesis, characterization and reactivity of mixed heavier Sn=Ge vinylidenes. Double 1,2-carbon migration enables the isomerization of the stannagermenylidene (3) to the germastannenylidene (4). X-ray diffraction analysis and DFT calculations revealed that 3 and 4 feature a Sn=Ge double bond. The reaction of 3 with IMe2 (1,3,4,5-tetramethylimidazoline-2-ylidene) results in the electron redistribution in the Sn=Ge core to give the germylone-stannylene adduct (5). Moreover, treatment of 3 with 0.25 equiv. of (AlCp*)4 produces the heteronuclear aluminyl stannagermyne (6).

Abstract:A regio- and stereoselective stepwise (4+2) annulation of N-propargylamides and α,β-unsaturated imines/ketones has been accomplished with synergetic catalysis by a combination of a gold-complex and a chiral quinine-derived squaramide (QN-SQA), leading to highly functionalized chiral tetrahydropyridines/dihydropyrans in good to high yields with generally excellent enantioselectivity. Mechanistic studies and DFT calculations indicate that the in-situ formed alkylgold species is the key intermediate in this transformation, and the amide group served as a traceless directing group in this highly selective transformation. This method complements the enantioselective (4+2) annulation of allene reagents, providing the formal internal C-C π-bond cycloaddition products, which is challenging and remains elusive.

Abstract:A series of diazo carbonyl compounds bearing different substituents have been prepared in order to investigate the steric effect in 1,2-migration reaction of rhodium(II) carbene. Through the investigation on the diazo decomposition of these compounds with Rh-2(OAc)(4), it was found that the steric effect could dramatically influence the migratory aptitude. In many cases, the steric effect could override the inherent electronic effect of the substituent.

Abstract:Herein, we disclose the gold-catalyzed annulation reaction of 2-iodobiphenyls with alkynes, leading to the formation of phenanthrene derivatives. The crucial aspect of this reaction lies in the catalytic migratory insertion of alkynes into the Au(III)‒C bonds. Experimental results suggest a preference for the migratory insertion pathway over the π-activation pathway, a finding further supported by Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations.

Abstract:Si-H bond activation is an important process implicated in many useful synthetic applications including silylation and transfer hydrogenation reactions. Herein we discovered homolytic activation of Si-H bonds on the surface of nanoporous gold (NPG), forming hydrogen radicals and [Au]-[Si] intermediates. By virtue of this new reactivity, we achieved highly selective mono and sequential alcoholysis of dihydrosilane. In addition, the amphiphilic nature of the [Au]-[Si] intermediate allows for a new bis-silylation reaction of cyclic ethers. The present work showcased that the surface reactivity of nanocatalysts may provide exciting opportunity for new reaction discovery.

Abstract:This work describes gold‐catalyzed annulations of 1‐(2‐(dimethoxymethyl)phenyl)‐1‐prop‐2‐yn‐1‐yl acetate substrates with α‐diazo esters and anilines, respectively yielding substituted naphthoates and indeno[1,2‐b]quinoline derivatives. Our mechanistic analysis indicates 1‐methoxy‐2‐carbonyl‐1H‐indenes as their common intermediates. In the formation of naphthoates, α‐diazo ester attacks at gold‐bound intermediate via a SN2 pathway to enable a allylic methoxy substitution. For indeno[1,2‐b]quinoline derivatives, there are two main reactions, including (i) a reversible formation between intermediate and a double amine addition product and (ii) an arylation reaction of intermediate. Species N‐(phenyl((2E)‐1‐(phenylimino)‐1,3‐dihydro‐2H‐inden‐2‐ylidene)methyl)aniline was converted to indeno[1,2‐b]quinoline in the presence of gold catalyst.

Abstract:A novel method for the synthesis of 2-substituted 3-trifluoromethylselenoindole derivatives from readily accessible 2-trifluoromethylseleno ethynylanilines via zinc-mediated SeCF3 group migration is achieved. The tandem reaction starts from cyclization/nucleophilic addition, followed by an unprecedented trifluoromethylseleno group 1,2-migration and then electrophilic substitution. A zincoindole complex with Cindolyl/Otosyl chelation is successfully isolated as reactive intermediate and characterized by X-ray diffraction. Control experiments indicate that both of the nature of selenium atom and N-protecting groups play crucial role in the rearrangement reaction.
