Abstract:In this paper, the Surface-enhanced Resonance Raman Scattering (SERRS), spectra of l-ethyl-3'-methylthia-2-cyanine iodide (D-l), 1,2'- diethyl-2,2'-cyanine iodide (D-2) and crystal violet (CV) adsorbed on the surface of silver chloride colloids are recorded and discussed. The SERRS studies confirm that the D-l molecules are chemisorbed on the surface of the silver chloride colloids and the surface Ag+ of the silver chloride colloids plays an important role in the SERRS of the sensitizing dye as well as in its adsorption. The mechanism of desensitization has been examined using the SERRS technique. It is found that the sensitizing dye D-2 is displaced from the surface of the silver chloride colloids by the desensitizing dye CV. By contrast, the sensitizing dye D-l is not displaced from the surface of silver chloride colloids by the desensitizing dye CV.
