Abstract:All-inorganic CsPbX3 (X=Cl, Br, I) perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) exhibit attractive optoelectronic properties for lighting and displays application but suffer from the lack of profound insights into their reaction kinetics. Herein, a modified ligand-assisted reprecipitation (LARP) method was developed to synthesize high-quality CsPbBr3 NCs by utilizing oleic acid (OA) and n-octylamine (OTAm) as surface ligands, and the effect of Cs/Pb ratio, precursors and ligands concentration on the structure, morphology and fluorescence properties was systematically inves-tigated. The monodisperse CsPbBr3 NCs with cubic shape and average particle size of 13.7 nm are obtained by optimizing the reaction parameters. Appropriately increasing the Cs/Pb ratio and precursors concentration to 0.5 and 1.0 mM are favorable for forming a more complete crystal structure with lower defect states density, which can significantly enhance the PL intensity. Notably, the surface defect states of CsPbBr3 NCs are effectively passivated by the coordinated OA and OTAm ligands, and the maximum photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) can reach to 85.2%. Importantly, the effective synthesis of high-quality CsPbBr3 NCs can be amplified up to 50 times of reaction volume after finely optimizing the reaction parameters. Based on a facile anion exchange process, the CsPbX3 NCs with variable halogen composition exhibit tunable emission of 443.3.649.1 nm and a wide color gamut of 117% NTSC standard. This work provides profound sights on the reaction kinetics of perovskite NCs, and further promotes its practical application in optoelectronic field.

Abstract:All-inorganic cesium-lead-halide CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, and I) perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) have attracted great attention due to their outstanding photoelectric properties in recent years. However, the unsatisfactory optical stability and undesirable anion-exchange reaction between different halides of perovskite NCs seriously hinder their further development and application in optoelectronic devices. Herein, the intermediate stages during anion-exchange processes between as-prepared perovskite NCs after mixing into solution and film were respectively studied and characterized by using photoluminescence and electroluminescence (EL) spectroscopy. In our case, the physical collision and solvent bridge effect together affect the anion-exchange reaction of the mixed solution, while the physical collision mechanism is dominant in the mixed film. More importantly, a thin polystyrene layer was inserted between CsPbBr3 and CsPbI3 to efficiently prevent the halogen anion-exchange reaction. Color-tunable EL performance and stable white emission were successfully achieved by employing the optimized CsPbI3/PS/CsPbBr3 structures onto the blue-violet heterojunctions.

Abstract:Cesium lead halide perovskite (CsPbX3) nanocrystals (NCs) exhibit an excellent photoelectric performance, which is directly governed by fine-tuning of the composition and preparation of materials with a special phase structure and morphology. However, it is still facing challenges to achieve highly stable and luminescent CsPbX3 NCs at room temperature. Herein, we report on a novel exchange reaction, in which metal halides MX2 (M=Zn, Mg, Cu, or Ca; X=Cl, Br, or I) solids act as anion source to directly prepare CsPbX3 NCs at room temperature without any pretreatment. Introducing small amount of oleic acid or oleylamine speed up the exchange reaction through different promotion mechanisms. Oleic acid coordinates to the surface of the NCs, which increases the reaction activity, and oleylamine greatly enhances the dissolution of ZnCl2. XRD and TEM tests demonstrate that the cubic phase structure and the morphology of the parent CsPbX3 were well preserved. Moreover, the band-gap energies and photoluminescence (PL) spectra were readily tunable over the entire visible spectral region of lambda=406-685 nm. Our findings could open up the possibilities of using metal halide solids as new anion sources to prepare high-quality CsPbX3 NCs at room temperature.

Abstract:In recent years, substantial progress has been made in the synthesis of colloidal CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, and I) nanocrystals (NCs). However, the anion exchange reaction always synthesizes CsPbCl3 NCs with low efficiency and poor stability. Here, first, through separating the halide precursors, mainly metal halide salts as CdCl2 in water, we propose a two-phase anion exchange method, successfully preparing CsPbCl3 NCs with a well-maintained cubic morphology and high photoluminescence quantum yields of about 95%. A controllable Cl-to-Br exchange rate is readily achieved by controlling the reaction time or the Cl- ion concentration. Benefiting from the good solubility of CdCl2 in water, Cl- ions are provided continuously, guaranteeing an adequate Cl-to-Br exchange at a high concentration of the original substrate. Rich Cl- ions, water and even the Cd2+ ions perform effective passivation of the nonradiative recombination centers likely stemming from Cl vacancies or other impurities, which has been confirmed by the transient optical spectroscopy measurements and elemental characterization. Also, the CsPbCl3 NCs reveal improved air stability and excellent photostability. We believe that the two-phase anion exchange method offers a new way to obtain high-efficiency CsPbCl3 NCs through a postsynthetic chemical transformation route, and helps to promote further corresponding applications in optoelectronic devices.

Abstract:All-inorganic cesium lead halide perovskite CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, I) nanocrystals (NCs) have attracted significant attention owing to their fascinating electronic and optical properties. However, researchers still face challenges to achieve highly stable and photoluminescent CsPbX3 NCs at room temperature by the direct-synthesis method. Herein, we synthesize CsPbX3 NCs by a facile and environmentally friendly method, which uses an aqueous solution of metal halides to react with Cs4PbBr6 NCs via interfacial anion exchange reactions and without applying any pretreatment. This method produces monodisperse and air-stable CsPbX3 NCs with tunable spectra covering the entire visible range, narrow photoluminescence emission bandwidth, and high photoluminescence quantum yield (PL QY, 80%). In addition, the chemical transformation mechanism between Cs4PbBr6 NCs and CsPbX3 NCs was investigated. The Cs4PbBr6 NCs were converted to CsPbBr3 NCs first by stripping CsBr, and then, the as-prepared CsPbBr3 NCs reacted with metal halides to form CsPbX3 NCs. This work takes advantage of the chemical transformation mechanism of Cs4PbBr6 NCs and provides an efficient and environmentally friendly way to synthesize CsPbX3 NCs.
Synergetic Effect of Postsynthetic Water Treatment on the Enhanced Photoluminescence and Stability of CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, I) Perovskite Nanocrystals

Abstract:All inorganic cesium lead halide CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, I) perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) are generally considered to be sensitive and even decompose when exposed to ambient humidity. Herein, we perform a well-controlled investigation of the effect of postsynthetic water treatment of the as-prepared CsPbX3 NCs on the photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQYs) and stability, and one can find that the surface defective layer of CsPbX3 NCs can be dissolved into water and we can further separate the supernatant CsPbX3 NCs hexane solution from the water, which improves the PLQYs of CsPbCl3, CsPbBr3, CsPbI3 from S%, 69.3%, 68.1% to 78.5%, 95.5%, 91%, respectively. As a synergetic effect, a trace amount of residual water facilitated the hydrolysis of tetramethyl orthosilicate, leading to the formation of SiO2-coated CsPbX3 NCs with high stability. The stable green-emitting CsPbBr3/SiO2 composite is used as an example to combine with red K2SiF6:Mn4+ to fabricate the light-emitting diodes device on the blue InGaN chip, which displays wide color gamut (128% of National Television Standard Committee standard), providing the possibility for liquid-crystal display backlight utilization.
Enhancing the Efficiency and Stability of CsPbI3 Nanocrystal-Based Light-Emitting Diodes Through Ligand Engineering with Octylamine

Abstract:Bright perovskite nanocrystals with high color purity are promising for high-definition displays; however, their complex postprocessing process limits their large-scale production. Using a trace of octylamine to regulate the dynamic balance between surface ligand adsorption and desorption, we develop a facile method to obtain stable CsPbI3 nanocrystal films that combine excellent optical and electrical properties. The octylamine additive maintains the integrity of nanocrystals and inhibits the formation of defects, greatly enhances the phase- and the photoluminescence-stability, and thus the operational stability of the corresponding light-emitting devices (LEDs); enables in situ substitution of oleylamine, which reduces the spacing between adjacent nanocrystals and thus leads to closely packed nanocrystal films with promoted charge carrier transport capability; and also increases the activation energy for ion migration, indicating that the number of ion vacancies.namely, the ion migration paths.has been decreased. As a result, the octylamine additive leads to a 4- and 6-fold increase in LED external quantum efficiency (EQE) and operational lifetime, respectively. LEDs based on octylamine-assisted Zn-doped CsPbI3 nanocrystals show a high EQE of 15.3%.
Enhanced Photoluminescence Quantum Yield and Stability of CsPbBr3 Perovskite Nanocrystals by Post-Synthetic Treatment with Tin (Ⅱ) Bromide

Abstract:Surface vacancies are commonly formed during the synthesis and purification of perovskite nanocrystals (NCs), which usually lower the photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) and stability. In this study, we demonstrate a facile post-synthetic treatment with SnBr2 to passivate the existing Pb2+ and Br vacancies on the surface of CsPbBr3 NCs. The PLQY of passivated NCs in the solution increases from 73% to 94%, and the average fluorescence lifetime of CsPbBr3 NC film is prolonged from 7.77 to 9.78 ns, indicating a higher degree of radiative recombination of electron-hole pairs. The CsPbBr3 NCs treated by SnBr2 present higher stability with 82% of the original PLQY after two weeks of storage in ambient atmosphere, while the PLQY of untreated NCs drastically drops to 58%. Furthermore, the maximum current efficiency of the light-emitting diode based on the modified CsPbBr3 NCs is enhanced by a factor of 2.5. It is believed that the proposed post-synthetic treatment method is promising in enhancing the PLQY and stability of perovskite NCs, as well as promoting the efficiency of the electroluminescent device.

Abstract:Fluorescent CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, I) perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) are compelling candidates for illumination and display applications because of the high photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQYs) narrow PL emission spectra, and in particular, the potential to tune the emission spectra in the entire visible range. However, limited by the current preparation strategy, the successive adjustment of PL emission across the full visible spectral range with very small interval, like conventional semiconductor quantum dots, is still challenging. In this work, we demonstrate the capability to tune the PL emission of CsPbX3 NCs in the full visible range with the interval of 1 nm on the basis of a modified anion-exchange route. Highly luminescent CsPbCl3 NCs with PLQY up to 34.2% are foremost prepared using alkanoyl chlorides as the chlorine source and further employed to perform anion exchange. A successive and accurate adjustment of the PL emission is achieved with the addition of ZnX2 (X = Br and I) aqueous solution and assisted by ultrasound to improve the reactivity of halogens in the anion exchange. Besides the accurately tunable PL emission position, the as-prepared CsPbX3 NCs exhibit good phase/chemical stability, high PLQY, and narrow PL emission spectra.

Abstract:Cesium lead halide perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) have attracted unprecedented attention owing to their compelling properties for optoelectronic applications. Compared with the classical hot-injection method, the room-temperature (RT) synthetic strategy is more facile and tender, but it is hard to obtain stable CsPbI3 NCs and it usually uses polar solvents that sometimes reduce the stability and properties of NCs. Here, we reported a simple approach to synthesize highly efficient and stable CsPbI3 as well as other color-tunable CsPbX3 NCs with high quantum efficiency at room temperature via an anion exchange at the water-oil interface, in which the as-synthesized pristine CsPbBr3 NCs in toluene were treated in aqueous solutions of HX (X=Cl, Br, and I) and protonated oleylamine (OAm) acted as a carrier. The synthesized CsPbI3 NCs had an emission at 680 nm and even showed excellent colloidal stability after being stored for 32 d. The high efficiency and stability of the obtained CsPbX3 NCs were ascribed to the facts that: (i) the polar reagents were almost removed from the surface of NCs; (ii) the defect-related nonradiative recombination was suppressed efficiently by surface passivation.

Centimeter-Sized Cs4PbBr6 Crystals with Embedded CsPbBr3 Nanocrystals Showing Superior Photoluminescence: Nonstoichiometry Induced Transformation and Light-Emitting Applications

Abstract:An HBr-assisted slow cooling method is developed for the growth of centimeter-sized Cs4PbBr6 crystals. The obtained crystals show strong green photoluminescence with absolute photoluminescence quantum yields up to 97%. More importantly, the evolution process and structural characterizations support that the nonstoichiometry of initial Cs4PbBr6 crystals induce the formation of nanosized CsPbBr3 nanocrystals in crystalline Cs4PbBr6 matrices. Furthermore, high efficiency and wide color gamut prototype white light-emitting diode devices are also demonstrated by combining the highly luminescent Cs4PbBr6 crystals as green emitters and commercial K2SiF6:Mn4+ phosphor as red emitters with blue emitting GaN chips. The optimized devices generate high-quality white light with luminous efficiency of approximate to 151 lm W-1 and color gamut of 90.6% Rec. 2020 at 20 mA, which is much better than that based on conventional perovskite nanocrystals. The combination of improved efficiency and better stability with comparable color quality provides an alternative choice for liquid crystal display backlights.
Zinc-halide/phenylbutyrate co-passivation of CsPbX3 nanocrystals toward efficient and robust luminescence

Abstract:Cesium lead halide perovskite nanocrystals (IPNCs) exhibit excellent optoelectronic properties but are susceptible to degradation in practical environments due to their ionic surface and unstable ligand capping. Here, we propose a post-synthesis surface passivation strategy for CsPbX3 (X = Br, I) IPNCs by employing combined zinc halide and zinc phenylbutyrate (Zn(PA)2) as surface ligands. ZnBr2 fills surface halide vacancies on IPNCs, resulting in high photoluminescence efficiency, whereas Zn(PA)2 stabilizes IPNCs by substituting surface ammonium ligands. Additionally, the -PA capping endows IPNCs with high solubility in polystyrene (PS), enabling the direct fabrication of highly efficient and uniform IPNCs-PS color conversion films through in situ polymerization of the IPNC-styrene solution. The resulting IPNCs-PS films displayed significantly enhanced stability, retaining excellent PL persistence after 1000 h of photoaging. This novel ligand and modification method presents a promising strategy for improving the efficiency and stability of IPNCs, facilitating their potential applications in display backlight and other optoelectronic applications.
Simultaneous Strontium Doping and Chlorine Surface Passivation Improve Luminescence Intensity and Stability of CsPbI3 Nanocrystals Enabling Efficient Light-Emitting Devices

Abstract:A method is proposed to improve the photo/electroluminescence efficiency and stability of CsPbI3 perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) by using SrCl2 as a co-precursor. The SrCl2 is chosen as the dopant to synthesize the CsPbI3 NCs. Because the ion radius of Sr2+ (1.18 angstrom) is slightly smaller than that of Pb2+ (1.19 angstrom) ions, divalent Sr2+ cations can partly replace the Pb2+ ions in the lattice structure of perovskite NCs and cause a slight lattice contraction. At the same time, Cl- anions from SrCl2 are able to efficiently passivate surface defect states of CsPbI3 nanocrystals, thus converting nonradiative trap states to radiative states. The simultaneous Sr2+ ion doping and surface Cl- ion passivation result in the enhanced photoluminescence quantum yield (up to 84%), elongated emission lifetime, and improved stability. Sr2+-doped CsPbI3 NCs are employed to produce light-emitting devices with a high external quantum yield of 13.5%.

Abstract:Lead halide perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) have recently attracted intense interest as promising luminophores for optoelectronic devices. However, their extensive applications are still hampered by a high-cost synthesis method and the poor stability and low photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of NCs. To address these issues, herein, a fast, room-temperature method is adopted to prepare CsPbBr3 NCs with the use of green synthetic solvents. More importantly, we explore an efficient postsynthetic dual-surface-passivation strategy of CsPbBr3 NCs with 1,3-adamantanedicarboxylic acid (ADA) and ZnBr2 ligands, which exhibits near-unity PLQY and ultra-high stability. The theoretical results show that such a remarkable performance stems from efficient passivation of the massive surface defects of CsPbBr3 with ADA and ZnBr2, suppressing the formation of surface nonradiative recombination centers. Besides, we fabricated white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs) based on essentially trap-free CsPbBr3 NCs. The optimal device exhibits a luminous efficiency of up to 68.7 lm W-1 and wide color gamut of 119% of the NTSC standard.

Here, we reported a simple approach to synthesize highly efficient and stable CsPbI 3 as well as other color-tunable CsPbX 3 NCs with high quantum efficiency at room temperature via an anion exchange at the water-oil interface, in which the as-synthesized pristine CsPbBr 3 NCs in toluene were treated in aqueous solutions of HX (X=Cl, Br, and I) and protonated oleylamine (OAm) acted as a carrier. The synthesized CsPbI 3 NCs had an emission at 680 nm and even showed excellent colloidal stability after being stored for 32 d. The high efficiency and stability of the obtained CsPbX 3 NCs were ascribed to the facts that: (i) the polar reagents were almost removed from the surface of NCs; (ii) the defect-related nonradiative recombination was suppressed efficiently by surface passivation.

Abstract:Inorganic CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, I) perovskite nanocrystals (PNCs) have a great promise for LED applications due to their high brightness and tunable emission. However, the long chain capping ligands such as oleylamine and oleic acid function are electrically insulating layers to hinder the charge carrier injection and transport, limiting the device performances. To overcome the limitations, p-iodo-D-phenylalanine (PIDP) was used in the post-treatment process of PNCs to partially substitute the long insulating ligands to improve the conductivity of CsPbI3 PNC films. Besides, the surface defects were also passivated by PIDP, increasing the radiative decay rate and decreasing the non-radiative decay rate, thus enhanced the photoluminescence quantum yield of the PNCs. As a result, highly efficient PNC LEDs were obtained with an external quantum efficiency of 12.4% and a peak luminance of 2000 cd m−2.

Abstract:Doping Zn2+ into the CsPbX3 nanocrystal is a straightforward and feasible operation, but there is still no systematic study of its structures and photophysics. Herein, we respectively fabricated two kinds of Zn-alloyed CsPbBr3 nanocrystals through a post-ion-exchange (CsPbBr3-ZnBr2-PIEX) and one-pot hot injection (CsPbBr3-ZnBr2-OPHI) method and conducted comprehensive investigations on them. It is found that the photoluminescence intensities of both CsPbBr3-ZnBr2-PIEX and CsPbBr3-ZnBr2-OPHI nanocrystals are significantly enhanced as compared to that of the pristine CsPbBr3 nanocrystal. The steady-state absorption and photoluminescence, XRD, SEM-EDX, ICP-OES, XPS, and TEM studies demonstrate that Zn2+ can be incorporated into the [PbBr6](4-) framework of the CsPbBr3-ZnBr2-OPHI nanocrystal and cause its lattice contraction, while the structure of the CsPbBr3-ZnBr2-PIEX nanocrystal remains unchanged as that of a pristine CsPbBr3 nanocrystal. The femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy studies confirm that Zn2+ incorporation into the [PbBr6](4-) framework of the CsPbBr3-ZnBr2-OPHI nanocrystal has a dramatic effect on its hot carrier cooling time, biexciton Auger recombination time, and biexciton binding energy.
