Abstract:Rational designing of advanced free-standing consisting of carbon nanofibers (CNFs) based carbonaceous materials and electrochemically active materials, is a promising strategy for developing flexible energy storage and conversion systems. Here, we propose a controllable architectural design of flexible multilevel ZnSe-CoFe@CNT/CNF heterostructure via a one-pot electrospinning and carbonization strategy. Uniformly dispersed ZnSe nanoparticles are inlaid in N-doped CNF skeleton with CoFe alloy embedded at the tips of the in-situ grown dendritic CNTs to form the hierarchical network. Interestingly, the hybrid can be tailored based on the synergistic catalysis effect of CoFe and its cocatalyst, and the formation mechanics is also proposed.Thanks to rich N doping, dense CNT branches, multiple heterogeneous interfaces, and bountiful space accommodating volume expansion of active ZnSe, the delicate architecture can afford efficient electron/ion transport with significantly improved mechanical properties and conductivity. As a proof-of-concept of a free-standing electrode material, the ZnSe-CoFe@CNT/CNF hybrid was utilized in representative Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) and Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). As anticipated, the two types of batteries show excellent cycle stability and rate performance. At 5 A/g,the electrode can achieve a high specific capacity of 813.5 mAh/g in LIBs. For SIBs, a specific capacity of 250.5 mAh/g is provided after 1000 cycles at 4 A/g. Accordingly, this work provides a new perspective for rational fabrication and design of free-standing electrodes for advanced LIBs/SIBs and beyond.
