Abstract:We consider the question for which square integrable analytic functions f and g on the unit disk the densely defined products TfTg are bounded on the Bergman space. We prove results analogous to those obtained by the second author [17] for such Toeplitz products on the Hardy space. We furthermore obtain similar results for Hankel products HfH*g, where f and g are square integrable on the unit disk, and for the mixed Haplitz products HfTg and TgH*f, where f and g are square integrable on the unit disk and g is analytic.

Abstract:We consider in this paper the question of when the semi-commutator Tfg − TfTg on the Bergman space with bounded harmonic symbols is compact. Several conditions equivalent to compactness of Tfg − TfTg are given. As a consequence we prove a conjecture of Axler that for bounded analytic functions f and g on the unit disk, Tfg∗ − TgTf∗ is compact iff either f or g is constant on each Gleason part P(m) except D.

Abstract:For entire functions f and g we determine exactly when the product H¯¯¯fT¯¯¯g of the Hankel operator H¯¯¯f and the Toeplitz operator T¯¯¯g is bounded on the Fock space F2α. This solves a natural companion to Sarason's Toeplitz product problem.

Abstract:In this paper, we characterize bounded Toeplitz product $$T_fT_{g}$$ and Hankel product $$H_f^{*}H_g$$ on Fock space $$F_{\alpha }^2$$ for two polynomials f and g in z and $${\overline{z}}$$. As a consequence, we obtain when Toeplitz operator $$T_f$$ or Hankel operator $$H_f$$ with the polynomial symbol f in z and $${\overline{z}}$$ is bounded.

Abstract:Invertibility of Toeplitz operators on the Bergman space and the related Douglas problem are long standing open problems. In this paper we study the invertibility problem under the novel geometric condition on the image of the symbols, which relaxes the standard positivity condition. We show that under our geometric assumption, the Toeplitz operator $T_\varphi$ is invertible if and only if the Berezin transform of $|\varphi|$ is invertible in $L^{\infty}$. It is well known that the Douglas problem is still open for harmonic functions. We study a class of rather general harmonic polynomials and characterize the invertibility of the corresponding Toeplitz operators. We also give a number of related results and examples.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the product problem of Toeplitz operators on the Bergman space of the unit disk. We characterize when the product of two Toeplitz operators TfTg is a finite rank perturbation of another Toeplitz operator Th, with f, g bounded harmonic and h in C2 class with invariant Laplacian in L1. As a consequence, we show that there is no nontrivial rank one perturbation. However, in the case rank m≥2, we construct an example that shows there are bounded harmonic functions f, g and h such that TfTg−Th has rank exactly m.

Abstract:We reconsider studies of Toeplitz operators on function spaces (the weighted Bergman space, the generalized derivative Hardy space) and the H-Toeplitz operators on the Bergman space. Past studies have considered the presence or absence of hyponormality or questions of contractivity or expansivity; we provide structure theorems for these operators that allow us to recapture, and often considerably improve, these results. In some cases these operators or their adjoints are actually in more restrictive classes, such as subnormal or moment infinitely divisible ($\mathcal{MID}$).

Abstract:In this paper we investigate when a finite sum of products of two Toeplitz operators with quasihomogeneous symbols is a finite rank perturbation of another Toeplitz operator on the Bergman space. We discover a noncommutative convolution $\diamond$ on the space of quasihomogeneous functions and use it in solving the problem. Our main results show that if $F_j, G_j$ ($1\leq j\leq N$) are polynomials of $z$ and $\bar{z}$ then $\sum_{j=1}^{N}T_{F_j}T_{G_j}-T_{H}$ is a finite rank operator for some $L^{1}$-function $H$ if and only if $\sum_{j=1}^{N}F_j\diamond G_j$ belongs to $L^1$ and $H=\sum_{j=1}^{N}F_j\diamond G_j$. In the case $F_j$'s are holomorphic and $G_j$'s are conjugate holomorphic, it is shown that $H$ is a solution to a system of first order partial differential equations with a constraint.

Abstract:It is shown that the invertibility of a Toeplitz matrix can be determined through the solvability of two standard equations. The inverse matrix can be denoted as a sum of products of circulant matrices and upper triangular Toeplitz matrices. The stability of the inversion formula for a Toeplitz matrix is also considered.

Abstract:In sprite by Berger-Coburn theorems and their conjecture in \cite{Coburn1994}, we use the Fourier transform to decompose $ T_{g}$ as an infinite sum of Toeplitz operators with symbols which have compact support in the frequency domain. As a consequence, we obtain a sufficient condition for $ T_{g}$ to be bounded in terms of the Carleson measure conditions defined by the heat transform of the symbol $g$. Moreover the decomposition of a Toeplitz operator leads us to get easily understanding that for a bounded function $g$, if its Berezin transform vanishes at infinity, then the Toeplitz operator $T_g$ is compact \cite{Eng} and the Toeplitz algebra generated by Toeplitz operators with symbols in $L^{\infty}$ is indeed generated by Toeplitz operators with symbols which on uniformly continuous on ${\mathbb C}^n$ \cite{Bauer2012}.Further, we will apply our decomposition theory for a Toeplitz operator to estimate the Schatten $p$-norm of the product of two Toeplitz operators.

Abstract:In this paper we completely characterize compact Toeplitz operators on the harmonic Bergman space. By using this result we establish the short exact sequences associated with the Toeplitz algebra and the Hankel algebra. We show that the Fredholm index of each Fredholm operator in the Toeplitz algebra or the Hankel algebra is zero.

Abstract:We study the inverses of block Toeplitz matrices based on the analysis of the block cyclic displacement. New formulas for the inverses of block Toeplitz matrices are proposed. We show that the inverses of block Toeplitz matrices can be decomposed as a sum of products of block circulant matrices. In the scalar case, the inverse formulas are proved to be numerically forward stable, if the Toeplitz matrix is nonsingular and well conditioned.

Abstract:We prove that an aggregate Toeplitz operator on the Fréchet space of all entire functions is a Fredholm operator if and only if its symbol does not vanish. The result is motivated by and closely resembles the classical result of Gohberg and Douglas from the Hardy space theory of Toeplitz operators. There are however some subtle differences which we also discuss.

Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to study the Sarason's problem on Fock spaces of polyanalytic functions. Namely, given two polyanalytic symbols $f$ and $g$, we establish a necessary and sufficient condition for the boundedness of some Toeplitz products $ T_{f}T_{\bar g}$ subjected to certain restriction on $f$ and $g$. We also characterize this property in terms of the Berezin transform.
