Abstract:Using luminescent lanthanide complexes as emissive center, two thin film electrolumienscent devices were fabricated by spin coating technique, The device structure of ITO/PPV/PVK: PBD: [Eu(TTA)(3) -phen] (and Tb(acac)(3) . phen)/ AlQ(3)/Mg/Ag was employed. (PVK = poly(N-vinylcarbazole); PPV = poly(p-phenylenevinylene); PBD = 2-(4-phenyl)-5-(4-tertbutylphenyl)- 1, 3,4-oxadiazole); AlQ(3) = tris(8-hydroxyquinoline) Aluminum; HTTA = 1, (2-thenoyl)-3,3,3-trifluoraceton; Hacac = acetyl acetone; phen = 1, 10-phenanthroline). Mg/Ag double alloy was used as the cathode material instead of Al cathode which has high work function. The transporting rate of electron and hole can be enhanced by the multilayer structure. Europium and terbium complexes mixed with electron transport material PBD and hole transport material PVK are used as emissive layer, which overcome the disadvantages of poor film-forming property and poor carrier-transport property, The electroluminescent devices were studied and showed the similar spectra to the photoluminescence spectra of corresponding lanthanide complexes, which indicates the same luminescence and energy transfer mechanism. Both luminance-bias-voltage and current-bias-voltage curves show that the two organic electroluminescent devices have good rectifying quality.
