Abstract:In China, with the improvement of the living standard and civil building innovation, large numbers of building materials and decoration have been used. The emission of some kinds of VOC pollutants such as formaldehyde, benzene, toluene and xylene etc. from these materials may trigger immediate or potential health problems. In this paper, on the basis of bake-out exhaust, biological treatment was applied to deal with VOCs (formaldehyde, benzene, toluene, xylene). Under the condition of gaseous flow rate of 600L/h, surface liquid velocity of 3.14m/h, pH of 6-7 and temperature of 30 degrees C, VOCs were treated with biological method before they are exhausted to outdoor. Four bacteria were optimized and screened out from the biotrickling filter. They were identified according to physiological and biochemical experiments, bacterial fatty acid content and 16S rDNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid) sequences. They were Pseudomonas sp., Kocuria sp., Arthrobacter sp. and Bacillus sp.. BTX (benzene, toluene and xylene) removal efficiencies increased from 65%similar to 70%, 93% and 85%similar to 90% to 86.2%similar to 88.4%, 93.2%similar to 94% and 90%similar to 91.6% respectively, after bioaugmentation.
