Abstract:Collaborative filtering has become the most popular technique in the field of recommender system to deal with the information overload problem. Most collaborative filtering approaches either based on the intuitive nearest neighbor methods or the scalable latent factor models. In order to benefit from the advantages of these two paradigms, some hybrid strategies are proposed by taking weighted averages on near neighbors' ratings as effects, or factorizing neighborhood to model interactions and relationships directly. However, these methods usually assume that the latent factors of users/items are independent of each other. Yet in fact, there are relationships among latent factors would affect the performance of recommendations. Motivated by this, in this paper, we introduce the collaborative factors, which are smoothed by near neighbors' factors, to better capture the intrinsic features for users and items. We further propose a novel collaborative matrix factorization (CoMF) model in order to elaborately incorporate these collaborative factors into latent factor models. Finally, experimental results on two datasets show that our CoMF significantly outperforms some state-of-the-art methods in prediction accuracy.
A Hybrid Recommendation Algorithm Based on Clustering and Collaborative Filtering

Abstract:Collaborative filtering is one of the main technologies for the e-commerce recommendation systems.However,the lack of algorithm scalability and the sparsity of rating data challenge the gradual increase of users and items.A hybrid recommendation algorithm based on clustering and collaborative filtering is employed to solve these problems.Firstly,the clustering algorithm is utilized to cluster items into several classes.The operations for one user following the clustering algorithm are limited within the interested classes of the user.This strategy improves the scalability of the recommendation algorithm and reduces the computation time.Secondly,an item-based algorithm is employed to compute the predictive values and insert high values into the original matrix in order to relieve the sparsity of the rating data.Finally,a user-based algorithm is used to attain the final predictive value,and then the recommendations are generated.The experimental results indicate that this algorithm can efficiently resolve these problems,and can improve the recommendation quality.
A Fast Interactive Item-Based Collaborative Filtering Algorithm

Abstract:A recommender system becomes more and more popular in e-commerce. Usually prediction results cannot satisfy users' requirements fully, and sometimes it even contains totally irrelevant items. To reflect users' newest preference and increase the quality of recommendation, a fast interactive item-based collaborative filtering algorithm is proposed. Firstly, we propose an item-based collaborative filtering algorithm with less time and space complexity. Then we introduce interactive iterations to reflect users' up-to-date preference and increase users' satisfaction. The experiments show that our fast interactive item-based CF algorithm has better recall and precision than traditional item-based CF algorithm.

Abstract:Collaborative Filtering (CF) is one of the most commonly used and successful recommendation techniques. The performance of traditional collaborative filtering is limited by the sparsity of data, and relies on explicit user feedbacks (ratings). However, the growing number of products and users will leave the user-item matrix sparser, and high-quality explicit feedbacks are not always available.In this paper, we focus on brand recommendation. A brand represents a set of products, which can ease the sparsity problem to some extent. We propose a learning-based recommendation approach, leveraging heterogeneous implicit feedbacks. First, we describe relations between brands by using the sequence of different types of behaviors, and extract path-based features to connect users to their unknown brands. Then we apply machine learning approaches to predict the purchase probability using these features. Finally we recommend top-n ranked brands to users according to the predicted probability. Extensive experiments on large-scale real-world e-commerce data provided by Tmall.com demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach.

Abstract:In recent years, under the guidance of the educational concept of equality and sharing, universities at home and abroad have increased the development and application of online course learning resources. In China, online open courses are open to all learners on the platform of major portals. Due to the increasing number of online courses, it is increasingly difficult for learners to find the content they are interested in on the website. In addition, the traditional collaborative filtering has the problems of sparse data, cold start, and low accuracy of recommendation results, etc. Therefore, the personalized recommendation system studied in this paper adds the collaborative filtering recommendation technology of user and project attributes. The recommendation system can actively discover the interest of learners according to their behavior characteristics, and provide them with online learning resources of interest, and improve the accuracy of the recommendation results by improving the collaborative filtering algorithm. In this paper, personalized recommendation technology is applied to online course website, aiming at providing personalized, automated and intelligent recommendation system for online learners.

Abstract:The e-commerce recommendation system mainly includes content recommendation technology, collaborative filtering recommendation technology, and hybrid recommendation technology. The collaborative filtering recommendation technology is a successful application of personalized recommendation technology. However, due to the sparse data and cold start problems of the collaborative recommendation technology and the continuous expansion of data scale in e-commerce, the e-commerce recommendation system also faces many challenges. This paper has conducted useful exploration and research on the collaborative recommendation technology. Firstly, this paper proposed an improved collaborative filtering algorithm. Secondly, the community detection algorithm is investigated, and two overlapping community detection algorithms based on the central node and k-based faction are proposed, which effectively mine the community in the network. Finally, we select a part of user communities from the user network projected by the user-item network as the candidate neighboring user set for the target user, thereby reducing calculation time and increasing recommendation speed and accuracy of the recommendation system. This paper has a perfect combination of social network technology and collaborative filtering technology, which can greatly increase recommendation system performance. This paper used the MovieLens dataset to test two performance indexes which include MAE and RMSE. The experimental results show that the improved collaborative filtering algorithm is superior to other two collaborative recommendation algorithms for MAE and RMSE performance.

Abstract:Personalized recommendation system is hot territory in the research and application of Internet enterprises in recent years. In this paper, based on the main idea of collaborative filtering, the traditional collaborative filtering algorithm is improved, including data model and algorithm process, considering the actual data, calculation consumption and effect of hotel personalized recommendation. Based on the improved data model, when calculating the recommendation results, the similarity between users and items is calculated directly, which greatly reduces the computational pressure. Finally, considering the different effects of different data, two sub-processes of candidate set fusion and reordering are added to further improve the final recommendation effect. The computations are divided into offline and online computations to maximize performance and fast response algorithms.

Abstract:At present, personalized recommendation system has become an indispensable technology in the fields of e-commerce, social network and news recommendation. However, the development of personalized recommendation system in the field of education and teaching is relatively slow with lack of corresponding application.In the era of Internet Plus, many colleges have adopted online learning platforms amidst the coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic. Overwhelmed with online learning tasks, many college students are overload by learning resources and unable to keep orientation in learning. It is difficult for them to access interested learning resources accurately and efficiently. Therefore, the personalized recommendation of learning resources has become a research hotspot. This paper focuses on how to develop an effective personalized recommendation system for teaching resources and improve the accuracy of recommendation. Based on the data on learning behaviors of the online learning platform of our university, the authors explored the classic cold start problem of the popular collaborative filtering algorithm, and improved the algorithm based on the data features of the platform. Specifically, the data on learning behaviors were extracted and screened by knowledge graph. The screened data were combined with the collaborative filtering algorithm to recommend learning resources. Experimental results show that the improved algorithm effectively solved the loss of orientation in learning, and the similarity and accuracy of recommended learning resources surpassed 90%. Our algorithm can fully satisfy the personalized needs of students, and provide a reference solution to the personalized education service of intelligent online learning platforms.

Abstract:With the rapid development of online learning technology, a huge amount of e-learning materials have been generated which are highly heterogeneous and in various media formats. Besides, e-learning environments are highly dynamic with the ever increasing number of learning resources that are naturally distributed over the network. On the other hand, in the online learning scenario, it is very difficult for users without sufficient background knowledge to choose suitable resources for their learning. In this paper, a hybrid recommender system is proposed to recommend learning items in users’ learning processes. The proposed method consists of two steps: (1) discovering content-related item sets using item-based collaborative filtering (CF), and (2) applying the item sets to sequential pattern mining (SPM) algorithm to filter items according to common learning sequences. The two approaches are combined to recommend potentially useful learning items to guide users in their current learning processes. We also apply the proposed approach to a peer-to-peer learning environment for resource pre-fetching where a central directory of learning items is not available. Experiments are conducted in a centralized and a P2P online learning systems for the evaluation of the proposed method and the results show good performance of it.

Abstract:Learning users' preferences is critical to enable personalized recommendation services in various online applications such as e-commerce, entertainment and many others. In this paper, we study on how to learn users' preferences from abundant online activities, e.g., browsing and examination, which are usually called implicit feedbacks since they cannot be interpreted as users' likes or dislikes on the corresponding products directly. Pairwise preference learning algorithms are the state-of-the-art methods for this important problem, but they have two major limitations of low accuracy and low efficiency caused by noise in observed feedbacks and non-optimal learning steps in update rules. As a response, we propose a novel adaptive pairwise preference learning algorithm, which addresses the above two limitations in a single algorithm with a concise and general learning scheme. Specifically, in the proposed learning scheme, we design an adaptive utility function and an adaptive learning step for the aforementioned two problems, respectively. Empirical studies show that our algorithm achieves significantly better results than the state-of-the-art method on two real-world data sets.

Abstract:This chapter introduces the relationship between collaborative filtering and deep learning and then presented various deep learning-based collaborative filtering algorithms. Leveraging cutting-edge methods from deep learning, these algorithms can significantly improve the accuracy, scalability, diversity, and interpretability of recommendation systems, offering richer technological choices for recommendation system design. However, most of these algorithms are optimized for specific problems, and there are often limitations in practical applications. Therefore, at the system design level, algorithm integration or fusion needs to be considered.

Abstract:Aiming at the problem that the overload of online education platform course resources leads to the difficulty of user selection, this paper mainly studies the improvement and application of collaborative filtering algorithm based on online course recommendation system, which organically combines personalized recommendation technology and online course system to meet the needs of users and online education platform. In the process of recommendation, firstly, user preferences are collected to establish a data model, and user login information and learning behavior information are used as implicit characteristics of user preferences. The loss rate of users in the computing platform is defined, the popularity of each course is calculated, and the relationship between users and courses is constructed, and the correlation and comparative analysis are carried out, Then, the traditional collaborative filtering algorithm is improved by introducing the implicit features after analysis, and the cosine similarity method is used to calculate the course similarity. Finally, the topN recommendation list is generated to get the recommendation results. Based on the desensitization data of an education platform, the experimental results show that the improved recommendation model can improve the precision of recommendation by introducing implicit features.

Abstract:In order to improve the recommendation accuracy in collaborative filtering, this paper introduces deep learning into the recommendation algorithm, and proposes a personalized recommendation model and algorithm under the deep learning mode. Firstly, the advantages and disadvantages of common algorithms are analyzed; then, the deep learning mode is constructed, and the deep learning is integrated into the recommendation algorithm step by step; finally, the simulation data are verified by cosine similarity and probability based recommendation method, and the results show that the two methods get almost the same score, and get better recommendation results, which can effectively improve the recommendation progress and quality.

Abstract:Personalized recommendation system has been widely adopted in E-learning field that is adaptive to each learner's own learning pace. With full utilization of learning behavior data, psychometric assessment models keep track of the learner's proficiency on knowledge points, and then, the well-designed recommendation strategy selects a sequence of actions to meet the objective of maximizing learner's learning efficiency. This article proposes a novel adaptive recommendation strategy under the framework of reinforcement learning. The proposed strategy is realized by the deep Q-learning algorithms, which are the techniques that contributed to the success of AlphaGo Zero to achieve the super-human level in playing the game of go. The proposed algorithm incorporates an early stopping to account for the possibility that learners may choose to stop learning. It can properly deal with missing data and can handle more individual-specific features for better recommendations. The recommendation strategy guides individual learners with efficient learning paths that vary from person to person. The authors showcase concrete examples with numeric analysis of substantive learning scenarios to further demonstrate the power of the proposed method.

Abstract:Recommendation is a popular and hot problem in e-commerce. Recommendation systems are realized in many ways such as content-based recommendation, collaborative filtering recommendation, and hybrid approach recommendation. In this article, a new collaborative filtering recommendation algorithm based on naive Bayesian method is proposed. Unlike original naive Bayesian method, the new algorithm can be applied to instances where conditional independence assumption is not obeyed strictly. According to our experiment, the new recommendation algorithm has a better performance than many existing algorithms including the popular k-NN algorithm used by Amazon.com especially at long length recommendation.

Abstract:With the rapid development of information technology, the information overload problem in e-commerce site is becoming increasingly serious. It is difficult for people to obtain their own needs from the massive items information quickly. Recommendation systems contribute to alleviating the problem of information overload that exists on the e-commerce site. In this paper, an e-commerce recommendation system based on improved user-based cooperative filtering algorithm is presented, which attempt to bridge the sparsity problem by combining the characteristics of user ratings with user reviews, and using the theme LDA model based on Spark framework to extract user preference.

Abstract:To achieve high quality of push-based information service, in this paper, collaborative filtering and content-based adaptability approaches are surveyed for user-centered personalized information, then based on the above method, we proposed a mixed two-phased recommendation algorithm for high-quality information recommendation, upon which performance evaluations showed that the mixed algorithm is more efficient than pure content-based or collaborative filtering methods, for pure of either approaches is not so efficient for the lack of enough information need information. And moreover we found with large amount registered users, it is necessary and important for the system to serve users in a group mode, which involved merged retrieval issues.

Abstract:For online education platforms, a personalized recommendation system is crucial, and the collaborative filtering algorithm is the primary recommendation algorithm used. This study took the recommendation of crowdfunding platforms as a sample, and enhanced the collaborative filtering algorithm based on the user score and project attribute features of the crowdfunding platform, intending to resolve the cold start issue brought on by the platform's reliance on a single data source. The study concludes with experimental proof of the paper's suggested better method. This approach can alleviate the cold start issue to some degree. The prediction accuracy has been much enhanced in comparison with the conventionally advised method. The method can also adapt to user tastes over time, learning what they like and what they don't. It also has an excellent real-time suggestion impact. The performance verification of the algorithm in this research is also conducted using data from a live crowdfunding site, lending credence to the study's claim of greater practicality.

Abstract:The dynamic environment in the real world calls for the adaptive techniques for information filtering, namely to provide real-time responses to the changes of system data. Where many incremental algorithms are designed for this purpose, they are usually challenged by the worse and worse performance resulted from the cumulative errors over time. In this Letter, we propose two incremental diffusion-based algorithms for the personalized recommendations, which integrate some pieces of local and fast updatings to achieve the approximate results. In addition to the fast responses, the errors of the proposed algorithms do not cumulate over time, that is to say, the global recomputing is unnecessary. This remarkable advantage is demonstrated by several metrics on algorithmic accuracy for two movie recommender systems and a social bookmarking system.
