Abstract:AIMS:This study aimed to evaluate the health-related quality of life of nursing workers and influential factors.BACKGROUND:Nursing workers are under great occupational stress. However, few population-level studies of nursing workers' health conditions have been reported from China.DESIGN:This was a cross-sectional study conducted in 12 medical institutions in east China between January and March 2015.METHODS:Social-demographic information, nursing workers' work-related information and health-related quality of life using the Chinese (mainland) version of the Short Form 36 health survey were collected by a self-administrated questionnaire.RESULTS:Nursing workers reported significantly lower scores of the vitality, mental health dimensions, and mental component summary of the Short Form 36 survey compared with general population reference values. They scored significantly higher for five other dimensions and comparably for the physical role dimension. Pre-job training, families' positive attitudes to their job, and good relationships with clients were positively related with nursing workers' mental well-being.CONCLUSION:To promote nursing workers' mental health, compulsory work-related training, voluntary psychological counselling, and targeted legislation are needed.
An Investigation and Analysis of the Influencing Factors on the Subjective Well-Being of Nurses in a Secondary Hospital in Shenzhen Special Economy Zone

Abstract:Objective To investigate factors that influence the subjective well-being of nurses in a secondary hospital in Shenzhen Special Economy Zone (SSEZ). Methods A total of 122 nurses in the hospital were assessed using Fazio' s General Well- Being (GWB) schedule and a self-designed data collecting questionaire. Results The difference of GWB were no significant in following factors: education level,administrative appointment, maritial status, years of residence in the SSEZ, whether the nurse pocesses any real estate properties or does any night shifts. There are significant links between the GWB and the age, department of work, professional title, length of service, employment contract type and whether the nurse has any children.Conclusions The findings suggest that age, department of work, professional title, length of service, employment contract type and whether the nurse has any children are the major influential factors of GWB among the nurses in the secondary hospital in SSEZ.

Abstract:Objective To analyze subjective well-being of nurses in emergency department, discuss its influence fac-tors. Methods 217 cases of nurses in Department of Emergency, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong Uni-versity were selected as respondents. Campbell happiness index scale was used for subjective well-being evaluation. The influence of gender, age, educational background, working time and job title on subjective well-being was analyzed. SPSS 19.0 statistical software was used for data statistics and analysis. Results Single factor analysis results showed that subjective well-being scores of nurses with different gender, age, educational background, working time and job ti-tle had statistically significant (P< 0.05). Multi-factor Logistic analysis showed that age (OR=1.424, P< 0.05), gender (OR=1.354, P<0.05), educational background (OR=1.299, P< 0.05), working time (OR=1.301, P< 0.05) and job title (OR=1.227, P< 0.05) were the influence factors of nurse subjective well-being. Conclusion Subjective well-being of nurses has affected by multiple factors. Corresponding measure should be adopted to improve the nurse subjective well-being.

Abstract:Objective: To evaluate the influence of head nurses' peer support on job stress of nurses. Methods: By adopting quasi-experiment design, nurses were randomly selected from Shaoyifu Hospital of Zhejiang university from March 2006 to March 2007. All nurses were investigated by either filling out questionnaire of combination of quality and quantity study or interviewed in semi-structural mode. Results: After intervention, the job stress of nurses from management atmosphere decreased remarkably. And nurses' sensation of head nurses' supports from five aspects of objective, consciousness, goal, action and process management and total support levels have been enhanced. All interviewees had positive evaluation on head nurses' supports. Conclusion: To certain extent, head nurses' peer support can relief the job stress for nurses.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE: The paper aims to explore the status of intensive care unit (ICU) nurses' self-esteem, job satisfaction, and subjective well-being and to investigate the relationship among the three elements.METHODS: A cross-sectional survey of 224 nurses from five teaching hospitals in Tianjin, China, was conducted. Self-esteem scale, job satisfaction scale, and subjective well-being scale were used to explore the status of ICU nurses' self-esteem, job satisfaction, and subjective well-being. Correlation among the three elements was calculated by SPSS 17.0.RESULTS: The scores of three scales (i.e., ICU nurses' self-esteem, job satisfaction, and subjective well-being) were 27.67 ± 3.41, 43.57 ± 9.04, and 69.73 ± 11.60, respectively. The subjective well-being was significantly positively correlated with self-esteem and job satisfaction (r = 0.454, P < 0.01; r = 0.584, P < 0.01, respectively).CONCLUSION: The study shows that the prevalence of subjective well-being and self-esteem with ICU nurses are at a low level, and job satisfaction is at the median level. Associations among self-esteem, job satisfaction, and subjective well-being in ICUs have been confirmed. Self-esteem and job satisfaction positively correlated with nurse subjective well-being. The higher the self-esteem and job satisfaction levels are, the stronger the subjective well-being is. The working pressure in ICUs cannot be alleviated temporarily; hence, to promote a high subjective well-being, managers and ICU nurses increase their self-esteem and job satisfaction through taking strategies that strengthen psychological construction.

Abstract:Objective To analyze current nursing workplace.Methods Questionnaires were distributed to 565 nurses,the response rate was 73.8%,417 nurses completed the Q12 scale which consists of four dimensions:basic needs,teamwork,self-development and supervisor's support.Data collected were analyzed by SPSS.Results Highest scores were reported for basic needs and lowest for supervisor's support.Significant correlation between marital status and teamwork was found while moderate correlation between ages and basic needs,ages and teamwork.The four dimensions had non-significant correlation with ducation level,job title and nursing unit.Conclusion On the base of meeting the nurses' basic needs,further improve the nursing administration,pay attention to the nurses' individual differences,optimize the nurses' occupational environment.

Abstract:Objective To evaluate the effect of psychological diary in the improvement of subjective well-being (SWB) of nurses. Methods Gallup workplace Audit (GWA,Q12)and overall subjective well-Being (SWB)were used in this study. A total of 178 nurses from 4 nursing units whose Q12 scores were matched were recruited and divided into two groups. Nurses in the experimental group wrote psychological diaries for 3 months. All the nurses were evaluated with Q12 and overall SWB before and after intervention. Results The scores of SWB and Q12 were significantly higher after intervention(P<0.01).There was also a positive correlation between the scores of SWB and Q12 (P<0.01). Conclusion Writing psychological diary has positive effects on supporting nurses psychologically.
Survey and analysis of influencing factors on subjective well-being of hospital nurses

Abstract:Objective:to investigate the influencing factors of hospital nurses.Method:279 on-the-job nurses in Hangzhou hospitals were researched using Campell subjective well-being questionnaire.Results:Age,length of service,variety of hospitals,employment type,section office,education background,the title of a technical post,annual salary,marital status are all the influencing factors.Variety of hospitals,employment type,annual salary and marital status are more important than others.Conclusion:Administrators should focus on the nurses who are in private hospitals,informal employment type,lower salary and unmarried status,so as to enhance their subjective well being.

Abstract:Objective To study the impact of head nurses' support on nurses' wort stress.Methods 180 nurses were observed by random sampling method.120 of them answered questionnaires by quantity research combined with quality research and 60 got organization structured interviews.Results 100 questionnaires show that nurses' two main sources of work stresses are workload and management atmosphere.Cooperation from the head nurses has positive relevance with nurses' stress from the society's recognition.Head nurses' cooperation,empathy and process management have positive relevance with management atmosphere. Head nurses' process management has positive relevance with nurses' stress from workload.The interview presents that most nurses feel that it is necessary for head nurses to help them relieve stress.Conclusion Head nurses' support can relieve nurses' work stress.

Abstract:Objective;To investigate job burnout states of nurses in Hangzhou.Methods;The Chinese version BMI was used to survey 1320 nurses from different level hospitals.Results;Different departments and types of hospitals have effect on job burnout states of nurses.Based on reference of GHQ≥4,41.4 % subjects got high scores on Emotional Exhaustion,34.5% subjects got high scores on Depersonalization and 44.6 % subjects got low scores on personal accomplishment.13.9% subjects got high scores at the three indexes of burnout among the nurse population.Conclusion;Some subjects are found to experience job burnout.To prevent or cure job burnout,more attention should be paid to organizational situation.

Abstract:This paper is a comparative study of formal and informal social networks and their effects on subjective well-being in Australia, Britain, and China. Formal social networks are measured by group affiliations, and informal social networks are measured by personal connections with kin, friends, and acquaintances. An analysis of the national representative sample surveys from the three countries shows that the formal networks are of notable importance in increasing people’s subjective well-being in Britain and urban China, but the informal networks have much greater impacts in all three countries, particularly in rural China. We propose a cultural–structural interaction framework to explain the observed differences in the network influence on subjective well-being in the three countries.

Job satisfaction mediates subjective social status and turnover intention among Chinese nurses

Abstract:Nurse turnover is one of the reasons for the global nurse shortage. Although previous studies have examined the determinants of turnover intention in detail, there is limited knowledge on the effect of subjective social status on nurse turnover intention. Therefore, in this study, we examined this relationship, including job satisfaction as a mediator, among Chinese nurses. This cross-sectional study employed questionnaires to assess subjective social status, job satisfaction, and turnover intention in 581 nurses who were randomly recruited from 10 hospitals in Jinan, China. The results partially supported our model. Although subjective social status exerted no significant direct effect on turnover intention, it exerted a significant indirect effect through job satisfaction. These results provide a new insight into why nurses leave their jobs, and possible new solutions to the nurse turnover problem. Efforts should be made to improve nurses' subjective social status.
Social supports and mental health: a cross-sectional study on the correlation of self-consistency and congruence in China

Abstract:Background: Psychosocial job characteristics require nursing staff with high self-consistency and good mental health. However, the attention and effort of such study remained very limited in China. Methods: A self-administered questionnaire was distributed to the bedside nurses in an affiliated hospital of Hebei Medical University, China. Of 218 registered bedside nurses eligible to participate in the survey anonymously, the data producing sample of 172 subjects resulted in a 79 % of effective response rate.. The Social Support Rating Scale was used to measure social support, and the Self-Consistency and Congruence Scale were used to measure mental health. Results: Compared with the normal referenced group of college students, higher self-flexibility scores, lower self-conflict and self-stethoscope scores from the sample group were obtained with statistical significance in self-conflict scores. The close correlations were observed between participants' social support and Self-Consistency and Congruence Scale score. The difference of Social Support Rating Scale score was significant in demographic features including years of work, marital status, only child family, and levels of cooperation with other health worker. Conclusions: Bedside nurses in this study show a better inner harmony, and their Self-Consistency and Congruence closely correlates with the levels of social support. Thus, it is substantial to improve inner perception of support and external factors, such as the workplace support, and offer beneficial social environment to improve the bedside nurse's sub-health symptoms and decrease the high turnover rate.
[Correlation between professional quality of life and social support of Chinese nurses: a meta-analysis]

Abstract:Objective: To systematically evaluate the correlation between professional quality of life and social support of Chinese nurses based on Pearson and Spearman correlation coefficients. Methods: In databases including PubMed, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, Medline, CBM, CNKI、Wanfang, and other databases were searched by computer for the literatures on correlation between Chinese nurses' professional quality of life and social support from January 2005 to July 2020. The Chinese and English search terms are "nurse" "professional quality of life" "empathy satisfaction" "empathy fatigue" "professional quality of life" "ProQOL" "comparison satisfaction" "comparison fatigue" "social support" "competent social support" "SSRS" "PSSS", etc. Literatures were screened according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. After evaluating quality and extracting data, meta-analysis was conducted using RevMan 5.3 software. Results: A total of 12 studies were included. The meta analysis showed that nurses' compassion satisfaction, burnout, secondary traumatic stress were related to social support, summary r were 0.35, -0.26 and -0.23 respectively. The correlation between compassion satisfaction and social support were increased with sample, the south was higher than the north, and comprehensive departments were higher than other departments (P<0.05) . The correlation between burnout and social support were increased with time and sample, and the south was higher than the north, oncology was higher than others, non-random sampling was higher than random sampling, using ProQOL and Perceived Social Support Scale (PSSS) was higher than Professional Quality of Life Scale (ProQOL) and Social Support Racting Scale (SSRS) (P<0.05) . The correlation coefficient between secondary traumatic stress and social support in oncology was higher than others, random sampling was higher than non-random sampling, using ProQOL and PSSS was higher than ProQOL and SSRS (P<0.05) . Conclusion: There is a positive and weak correlation between compassion satisfaction and social support, and a negative and weak correlation between burnout and secondary traumatic stress and social support. There are differences in different time, research design, region and department.
Professional Identity, Job Stress, Job Satisfaction and Turnover Intention among Nurses

Abstract:Objective:To investigate nurses' professional identity,job stress,job satisfaction and turnover intention in Beijing.Methods:Totally 1272 nurses from 19 hospitals of different levels in Beijing were recruited by convenient sampling method and investigated by self-designed questionnaires about nurses' professional identity,job stress,job satisfaction,and turnover intention.Results:The mean score of social class was 36.5±19.7(median 35.0) and only 27.8% nurses felt respected by patients.About 57.2% nurses felt their job stressful or very stressful and the main stressors were high professional risk,high workload,and the low social evaluation.Only 30.7% nurses were satisfied with their job and the main dissatisfying factors were low income,high professional risk,and high workload.About 35.2% nurses were unwilling to be nurses anymore and the main reasons were low income,high professional risk,and high workload.Multiple linear regression showed that the influencing factors of nurses' professional identity,job stress,and job satisfaction were working years and education background,marital status and hospital level,and hospital level,professional qualifications and post,respectively.Logistic regression showed that the influencing factor of turnover intention was hospital level.Conclusion:The professional identity and job satisfaction of nurses in Beijing is low,while the job stress and turnover intention is high.Hospital managers should take some effective measures to enhance nurse' professional identity and job satisfaction and reduce their job stress and turnover intention to stabilize nursing team and to ensure nursing quality.

Abstract:Abstract Background The prevalence of burnout, depression, and anxiety among Chinese nurses was 34%, 55.5%, and 41.8% respectively. Mental health problems have significant impacts on their personal well-being, work performance, patient care quality, and the overall healthcare system. Mental health is influenced by factors at multiple levels and their interactions. Methods This was a descriptive qualitative study using phenomenological approach. We recruited a total of 48 nurses from a tertiary hospital in Changsha, Hunan Province, China. Data were collected through focus group interviews. Audio-recorded data were transcribed and inductively analysed. Results Four major themes with 13 subthemes were identified according to the social ecological model: (1) individual-level factors, including personality traits, sleep quality, workplace adaptability, and years of work experience; (2) interpersonal-level factors, encompassing interpersonal support and role conflict; (3) organization-level factors, such as organizational climate, organizational support, career plateau, and job control; and (4) social-level factors, which included compensation packages, social status, and legislative provision and policy. Conclusions Our study provides a nuanced understanding of the multifaceted factors influencing nurses’ mental health. Recognizing the interconnectedness of individual, interpersonal, organizational, and social elements is essential for developing targeted interventions and comprehensive strategies to promote and safeguard the mental well-being of nurses in clinical settings. Abstract:Previous studies have reported high rates of poor mental health among nursing students, but few studies focused on the internal pathway of mental health. This cross-sectional study was conducted at a vocational medical school and investigated 384 nursing students. Symptom Check List-90, Index of Well-Being Scale and Cynical Attitudes Toward College Scale were used to test mental health, subjective well-being (SWB) and cynicism of nursing students, respectively. Academic cynicism, social cynicism and institutional cynicism were negatively related to mental health. SWB not only directly had positive effect on mental health, but had an indirect effect on mental health through academic cynicism, social cynicism and institutional cynicism.

Abstract:Objective:To explore the current status of clinical nurses' job well-being in Class Ⅲ Grade A general hospitals in Beijing, and analyze its influencing factors.Methods:From November 2019 to January 2020, convenience sampling method was used to select 528 clinical nurses from 4 ClassⅢ Grade A general hospitals in Beijing as the research object. The General Information Questionnaire, Perceived Organizational Support Scale, Psychological Capital Questionnaire-Revision (PCQ-R) and Employee Occupational Well-being Scale in Chinese Enterprises were used to conduct a cross-sectional survey to analyze the relationships among clinical nurses' perceived organizational support, psychological capital and job well-being and the influencing factors of well-being at work. A total of 528 questionnaires were collected in this survey, of which 518 were valid questionnaires, with an effective response rate of 98.1%.Results:Among 518 clinical nurses, the average score of job well-being was (5.13±0.96) . Pearson correlation analysis showed that the total scores of perceived organizational support and psychological capital of clinical nurses were positively correlated with the total score of job well-being with statistical differences ( r=0.802, 0.668; P<0.01) . Multiple linear regression analysis showed that monthly income, perceived organizational support and psychological capital were the influencing factors of clinical nurses' job well-being also with a statistical difference ( P<0.05) . Conclusions:Clinical nurses in four ClassⅢ Grade A general hospitals in Beijing have a good sense of job well-being. The more monthly income, the stronger the perceived organizational support, and the higher the psychological capital, the higher the job well-being of nurses is.
