Abstract:Objective To discuss the MRI and CT imaging features of pilocytic astrocytoma.Materials and Methods The MRI and CT imaging features of 16 cases with pilocytic astrocytoma proved by operation and pathology were retrospectively analyzed.Results The MRI and CT imaging features of pilocytic astrocytoma were as follows :(1)The tumors usually occurred in adolescents,especially below 20 years old.(2)The tumors mostly located in cerebellum.(3)The tumors tended to be round shape and cystic degeneration,according to the degree of cystic degeneration,lesions can be divided into cyst type,cyst tubercle type and mass type,cyst tubercle type was the most common.(4)The cystic part of tumor appeared hypodensity on CT and obvious hypointensity signal on T1WI and obvious hyperintensity signal on T2WI;the solid part of tumor,the cystic wall and wall tubercle appeared iso-or hypodensity on CT and iso-or slightly hypointensity signal on T1WI and slightly hyperintensity signal on T2WI.After injection of contrast media,the tumor cystic wall did not enhance or slightly enhanced,the tumor wall tubercle and the solid part enhanced markedly,the cystic part of tumor did not enhance.(5)The tumors were sharply demarcated without edema.(6)Hemorrhage or calcification was rarely seen.Conclusion The MRI and CT appearance of pilocytic astrocytoma have some characteristics,which is helpful to differentiate the tumor from other lesions before operation.

Abstract:Objective:In order to improve the knowlegment of pilocytic astrocytoma,MRI findings correlated with pathologic changes of this tumor were investigated. Methods:The MRI findings of pilocytic astrocytoma were reviewed retrospectively. All cases were proved by operation and pathology.Results:The MRI characteristics of pilocytic astrocytoma were as follows:① The tumors appeared slight hyperintense,isointense,hypointense or mixed on T1 weighted images and hyperintense or mixed on T2 weighted images; After contrast injection,the lesions were usually enhanced as follows:cystic tumor with a nonenhancing cyst wall (only the mural nodule was enhanced); cystic tumor with an enhanced cyst wall (the mural nodule and the cyst wall were enhanced); cystic tumor with an enhanced cyst wall (only the cyst wall was enhanced); solid tumor(regular contrast enhancement); mainly solid tumor (most with irregular contrast enhancement);② Tumors were often mutiple microcysts. With hemorrhage,edema was seen in tumors usually,and vice versa;③ MRI study revealed a large lesion with cystic components and solid or cystic components and associated with hemorrhage.Conclusion:The MRI appearances of the pilocytic astrocytoma are characteristic. It is easily differentiated from other lesions by analysis of the correlation between ages and clinical feature.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging Characteristics of Pilomyxoid Astrocytoma and Comparision with Pilocytic Astrocytoma

Abstract:Objective To investigate MR imaging features of pilomyxoid astrocytoma(PMA).Materials and Meth-ods Clinical,MR imaging,and pathological data of 4 patients with PMA were collected.We analyzed MR findings of four patients with PMA and compared them with those of typical PA.Results Four patients were 2 males and 2 females.Two patients were 4 years old,the other were 13 and 22 years old respectively.The tumors located in the right thalamus,parasel-lar regions,left temporal lobe and the right cerebellar hemisphere.All tumors appeared well-circu mscribed with no evi-dence of peritumoral edema,with no parenchymal infiltration on MRI.Two tumors demonstrated solid component,the other two showed cystic component.Two tumors were hypointense on T_1-weighted MRI and hyperintense on T_2-weighted MRI.Two tumors were isotonic-hypointense on T_1-weighted MRI and isointense-hyperintense on T_2-weighted MR.One presented hemorrhage within the tumor.All tumors were isointense on diffusion weighted imaging (DWI).After contrast administra-tion,three tumors enhanced heterogeneously and one tumor enhanced homogenously with mural nodes.Conclusion Pilo-myxoid astrocytoma is a well-circumscribed pediatric neoplasm that commonly originates from the midline of the ncuroaxis and lacks peritumoral edema,it is critical to recognize the predominantly solid and well-circumscribed nature of the neo-plasm to avoid confusion with an infiltrating astrocytoma.
Rare Cardiac Myxoma with A Hard Texture: A Case Report

Abstract:Background: Primary tumors of the heart are uncommon but not rare. Myxoma comprises 50% of all benign cardiac tumors in adults and 15% of such tumors in children. Cardiac myxoma is usually soft in texture and has a friable or villous surface, which tends to be associated with embolic events. It is also rare for myxoma to be full of calcium and metastatic bone deposits.Case presentation: We herein present a 58-year-old female patient with cardiac space-occupying lesion within the left atrium, and the lesion is lubricous and hard. Her only symptoms were hypertension, dizziness, and chest stuffiness. After surgical resection, we confirmed that the lesion was atrial myxoma by histopathology examination. The patient recovered uneventfully and was discharged. A 2-year follow-up exam showed no evidence of tumor recurrence.Conclusions: Cardiac myxoma is rare and has various clinical manifestations. It is usually friable and has an irregular surface, making embolic manifestations one of the most common complications. Consequently, immediate surgical excision is suggested upon diagnosis. In our case, the patient had a rare type of cardiac myxoma, which had a hard texture and lubricous surface. In our opinion, this case has a low risk of embolism. We prefer elective surgery rather than emergency surgery to perfect the preoperative examination for this kind of patient.

Abstract:Objective: To investigate the MRI features of intracranial pilocytic astrocytoma(PA) to further enhance the understanding of the disease.Methods: The pre-and-post contrast MR images of 18 cases of pathologically confirmed PA were analyzed retrospectively.Results: Of the 18 PA,9 located in the midline structure(5 in the optic chiasm,2 in the brainstem,1 in the hypothalamus and 1 in the fourth ventricle),5 in the cerebellum and 4 in the cerebral hemisphere.The size of lesions ranged from 2.1cm to 5.9cm.On MRI,10 cases were predominantly solid mass with cystic degeneration or necrosis or micro-cystic components,all had markedly inhomogeneous enhancement;Eight cases were solid-cystic mass,4 with intensely enhancing mural nodule and cystic wall,3 with intensely enhancing mural nodule and non-enhancing cystic wall and 1 with mildly enhancing mural nodule and cystic wall.Thirteen cases showed no obvious peritumoral edema and 5 showed slight peritumoral edema.Conclusion: The MRI appearance of PA has some characteristics.According to the clinical manifestations,it is helpful for accurate preoperative diagnosis.Meanwhile,it also offers significant reference value for treatment.
The MRI Manifestations of Cardiac Myxoma

Abstract:Objective To explore the MRI manifestations of cardiac myxoma.Methods 18 cases of myxoma which were confirmed through pathology were respectively analysed,and the patients were all examined by enhanced cardiac MRI before surgical resection.The sequences of cine,SE (T1 WI,T2 WI) or IR (Double IR,Tripple IR),first pass and delayed gadolinium-enhanced were performed.The amount,location,size,margin,MRI signal manifestation,base,mobility,enhancement manifestation of myxoma,cardiac structure and haemodynamics were analysed.Results 14 cases of cardiac myxoma were in the left atrium.10 cases originated from the artial septum.6 cases were attached to the free wall of the atrium.9 ca ses were pedunculated,and the other half exhibited a wide base.10 cases demonstrated a round or roundlike shape and 8 cases demonstrated a lobulated shape.The signal intensity was low in cine which was lower than the heart muscle,high or moderately high in T2WI or Tripple IR,higher than the heart muscle.The signal of 3 cases were not homogeneous with mixed punctiform low signal intensity.Filling defects were shown in all cases.Early and late gadolinium enhancement was seen in 8 cases and no enhancement was displayed in 6 cases,and the other 4 cases were mildly enhanced.The haemodynamic changes were seen in 3 cases,in which two tumors were close to atrioventricular valve,the mass fluttered between atrium and ventricle during the heart cycle.The right inferior pulmonary vein was dilated mildly for the mass was close to the ostium of the right inferior pulmonary vein.Cardiac remodeling was seen in 4 cases,the atrium or ventricle was dilated.Conclusion The MRI manifestations of cardiac myxoma were characteristic to a certain extent,so cardiac MRI is an effective,important examination in the diagnosis of cardiac myxoma.

Abstract:Purpose To explore the clinicopathologic characteristics and differential diagnosis of pilomyxoid astrocytoma(PMA).Methods The clinical data of three cases of PMA and examined the histopathologic and immunohistochemical(using EnVision-plus kit) features were reported.The ultrastructural features were examined in one of these cases.Results Three PMA occurred in female patients at the age of 13 years,4 years and 17 years,and the tumor were located in the right thalamus,right temporal lobe/basal ganglia and hypothalamic/chiasmatic region,respectively.On histology,the tumor was composed of bipolar spindle cells loosely setting in a mucinous background.In some areas,the tumor cells displayed an angiocentric pattern.Pleomorphism of the tumor cells was not significant.Mitotic figures were rare.There was a marked proliferation of vessels within the tumor.There was hemorrhage in one case.Eosinophilic granular bodies and focal necrosis were seen in one case,and the biphasic pattern and Rosenthal fibers were not found in all the three cases.Immunophenotyping showed that the tumor cells of all cases were diffusely positive for GFAP,vimentin,S-100 and Olig-2,while negative for CKpan,EMA,NF,CgA,Neu-N and p53.The tumor cells of one case were focally positive for Syn.The tumor cell of PMA contained neuroendocrine granule-like particles besides the characteristics of tanycyte under electron microscopy.Conclusion PMA is a subtype of pilocytic astrocytoma(PA).Compared to the classic type PA,it has the unique histological characteristics,and is more aggressive.Therefore,we should strengthen cognition of this tumor.

Abstract:OBJECTIVETo study the clinicopathologic features of pilomyxoid astrocytoma (PmA).METHODSThe clinical and pathologic features in 3 cases of PmA were analyzed. Immunohistochemical study for glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), CD34 and Ki-67 was performed on paraffin-embedded sections by standard EnVision method.RESULTSAll the 3 cases occurred in female patients at the age of 10 months, 10 years and 19 years respectively. Two cases were located in the third ventricle, while the remaining case was located at the optic pathway. Histologically, the tumor was composed of bipolar spindle cells setting in a strikingly mucinous background. There was a marked proliferation of vessels within the tumor. In some areas, the tumor cells exhibited an angiocentric growth pattern. The biphasic pattern noted in a classic pilocytic astrocytoma was not found in PmA. Rosenthal fibers and eosinophilic granular bodies were also not identified. Immunohistochemcal study showed that the tumor cells were diffusely positive for GFAP. The Ki-67 labeling index measured less than 1%. CD34 highlighted mainly the vascular networks.CONCLUSIONSPmA is a distinctive variant of pilocytic astrocytoma with subtle histologic differences. Compared with conventional pilocytic astrocytoma, PmA behaves more aggressively. Some cases tend to occur in older children and adolescents. Immunohistochemical study for GFAP is helpful in differential diagnosis.
Posterior fossa pilomyxoid astrocytoma with spontaneous hemorrhage in pediatric patients

Abstract:Object The tumor described in this report was unique because of its involvement with a posterior fossa spontaneous hemorrhage in a pediatric patient; such a case has never been previously described in cases of pilomyxoid astrocytomas and also rarely found in those of pilocytic astrocytomas. Methods This report studied a rare case of posterior fossa pilomyxoid astrocytoma (PMA) with critical and dangerous spontaneous hemorrhage. A 7-year-old girl appeared at the outpatient clinic with sudden headache and vomiting. Results The patient underwent gross total tumor resection via suboccipital Medline approach, and no evidence of residual or recurrent tumor was found on magnetic resonance images at two follow-up examinations which were respectively conducted 1 and 5 months after resection. Conclusion In this report, the authors reviewed the literature and discussed the clinical features and treatment of pilomyxoid astrocytoma. It is important to distinguish this tumor variant from the more indolent pilocytic astrocytoma.
MR Findings of Brain Pilocytic Astrocytoma in Adults

Abstract:Objective To analyze and summarize MRI findings of brain pilocytic astrocytoma in adults. Methods Thirty-two cases (13 males and 19 females) of brain pilocytic astrocytoma in adults confirmed by surgery and pathology were reviewed and studied including MRI manifestation and pathologic data. The ages of the patients ranged from 20 to 68 years old, with a median age of 30 years. Results MRI showed 33 lesions in total with location in cerebellum (n=13),supratentorial parenchyma (n=12), lateral ventricles (n=5), forth ventricle (n=2), and sellar region (n=1). The MRI manifestations showed 5 types:mixed- signal mass in 11 lesions, especially mixed signals on T2WI and enhancement images ; enhanced cystic wall with enhanced mural nodule in 8 lesions on enhancement imaging;non-enhanced cystic wall with enhanced mural nodule in 7 lesions; cystic mass in 5 lesions with high signals on T2WI and enhanced or partially enhanced cystic wall; solid masses in 2 lesions with heterogeneous signal on enhanced imaging. Mild or no edema was identified in 29 tumorsand 4 tumors revealed obvious edema. Hemorrhage was found in 12 tumors and calcification was demonstrated in 4 tumors.. Conclusion Brain pilocytic astrocytoma in adults has characteristic imaging findings on MRI.

Abstract:Neurological manifestations of atrial myxomas may be encountered in different pathological circumstances: cerebral embolism, intracranial aneurysms, and metastatic mass lesions. We report a case of multiple metastatic intracranial lesions associated with atrial myxoma and discuss the potential mechanisms of its perplexing neuroimaging manifestations. Comparing with previous reports of myxoma-associated intracranial lesions, the most notable features of the present case were the multiple high-density "calcified" lesions accompanying the aneurysms on computed tomography scan and the significant contrast-enhanced mass in the left parietal lobe on magnetic resonance scan. This suggested an extremely rare case of coexistence of aneurysms and intracranial metastatic mass lesion associated with cardiac myxoma, although the pathological evidence was not available.
Pleomorphic Xanthoastrocytoma:Imaging Findings and Pathology Correlation

Abstract:Objective The purpose of this study was to analyze the imaging features and pathological findings of pleomorphic xanthoastrocytomas. Materials and Methods Imaging, clinical and pathological features of pleomorphic xanthoastrocytomas in 21 cases were analyzed retrospectively. Results On CT and MRI, most pleomorphic xanthoastrocytomas were located in the superficial cerebral hemisphere,mostly in the temporal lobe.Solitary lesion was most common.15 cases predominantly appeared as cystic lesion with small mural nodule (n=10) or large mural nodule (n=5);6 cases showed as solid mass with small cystic or necrotic changes.Histopathologically, tumor cells were characterized by pleomorphism,which were embedded in a dense fibrillary matrix and lymphocyte.Hemorrhage and calcification were rare.Immunohistochemically, the neoplastic cells were strongly positive for glial fibrillary acidic protein.It generally occurred in children and youth with seizures. Conclusion Superficial location,solitary and cystic lesion with enhanced mural nodule were typical imaging features of pleomorphic xanthoastrocytom.Combined with advanced imaging technology, such as DWI, MRS, and PET/ CT may contribute to improve the diagnosis.
Imaging Characteristics of Intrasellar Cavernous Hemangioma

Abstract:Abstract Rationale: Intrasellar cavernous hemangiomas (ICHs) are rare vascular lesions that arise in the sellar region. ICHs are usually misdiagnosed and treated as pituitary adenomas. Therefore, a preoperative diagnosis is particularly important, especially when the goal is complete resection. Patient concerns: A 55-year-old woman presented with a 1-month history of intermittent dizziness. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a well-demarcated abnormal ellipsoid signal in the sellar region (size: 2.7 cm × 1.7 cm), with a mulberry-like enhancement after gadolinium injection. Computed tomography revealed an intrasellar mass without calcification that extended into the left cavernous sinus and was faintly contrast-enhanced. Angiography revealed a tumor with mildly delayed staining fed by the C5 segment of the right internal carotid artery. Diagnosis: An intrasellar cavernous hemangioma based on neuroradiological examinations. Interventions: The patient underwent surgery with an endoscopic endonasal transsphenoidal approach to debulk the lesion and obtain tissue for the pathological diagnosis. Outcomes: Blood spurting was observed after puncture, and the capsule was stained blue. Lesion removal was stopped, and the patient underwent gamma knife surgery 1 week later. She remained in good condition during the follow-up. Lessons: Sponge-like or mulberry-like lesions can be identified on MRI after gadolinium injection and can facilitate a preoperative diagnosis of ICH. Currently, surgical debulking with cranial nerve decompression during the acute stage and subsequent gamma knife radiosurgery are considered to be a safe and effective treatment.
Analysis of Misdiagnosed Intracranial Pilocytic Astrocytomas in Children

Abstract:Objective In order to evaluate the reasons of mistaken diagnosis,the imaging features of the misdiagnosed intracranial pilocytic astrocytoma in children were analyzed.Methods We collected 36 cases that were pathologically proven to be misdiagnoses.Among them 23 were boys and 13 were girls.The results of CT and MRI were retrospectively reviewed to analyse the causes of the misdiagnoses.Results In the group,14 cases were in the cerebellum,7 in the saddle area,6 in the cerebrum,5 in the brain stem,3 in the pineal region and 1 was polynesic.In 36 cases,5/36(13.9％) had calcification,5/36(8.3％) had hemorrhage,21/36(58.3％) had atypical enhancement and 2/36(5.6％) had CSF dissemination.The Cho/NAA mean for the 11 cases was 2.53 ± 0.94.There were 9 cases with Cho/NAA ＞ 2,4 cases with Lac peaks.35/36 (97.2％) tumors were iso-to-hypointensity on DWI.Conclusion The misdiagnosis of pilocytic astrocytomas was most likely caused by atypical features,including calcification,hemorrhage,CSF dissemination,polynesic lesions and nonspecific enhancement.The special MRS of pilocytic astrocytomas may also lead to mistaken diagnosis.In children,when the brain tumor was iso-to-hypointensity on DWI with clear margin and slight/non peripheral edema,pilocytic astrocytoma should be considered in the differential diagnosis.
Gemistocytic astrocytoma：correlation of CT and MRI findings and pathology

Abstract:Objective To analyze the imaging features and pathologic characteristic of gemistocytic astrocytoma .Methods The MRI imaging of 10 patients with GemA were reviewed retrospectively ,and imaging features and clinical data were an‐alyzed .2 cases underwent CT ,8 cases underwent both plain and enhanced MRI scanning .Pertinent literatures were re‐viewed ,and the image features were analyzed .Results Among the 10 patients ,7 were male and 3 were female with age ranged from 10 to 64 years .All the tumors located at supratentorial site .7 cases was located in the lobus frontalis .Single tumor was found in 9 patients ,multiple tumor in 1 patients 8 patients had no clear mass and diffuse infiltrative growth .6 cases involved in several lobes and 5 cases invaded the opposite tissues through corpus callosum .6 patients showed multi‐ple and various sizes cystic lesions in solid parts .Cystic‐solid tumor large mural nodule was presented (1 case) .The solid nodules were located nearby the meninx of tumor .The solid portions of the tumor demonstrated isointensity or slightly hy‐pointense on T1 WI ,isointensity or slightly hyperintense on T2 WI and hyperintense or slightly hyperintense on DWI ,isoin‐tensity or hypointense on ADC map .The solid masses were marked enhancement after Gd‐DTPA injection ,the enhance‐ment of the components was inhomogeneous .Low density was shown on CT with mild edema .The maximum diameter of tumors was 3.0 ~ 8 .1 cm .Peritumoral edema was found in 10 cases with mild in 9 eases ,moderate edema in 1 case respec‐tively .Conclusion GemA has certain MRI features and understanding these features will help its diagnosis and differential diagnosis .

Abstract:Background The purpose of this retrospective review is to determine the MR imaging features of pilocytic astrocytoma (PA) in the spinal cord to help neuroradiologists preoperatively differentiate PA from other intramedullary tumors. Methods Neuro-oncology database review revealed 13 consecutive patients with a pathological spinal PA diagnosis and availability of preoperative MR imaging. Three patients had preoperative diffusion-weighted MR imaging. Demographics and conventional and diffusion MR imaging records were retrospectively evaluated. Results Among 13 cases of spinal PA, six PAs were located in the cervical region, 4 in the cervical-thoracic region, and 3 in the thoracic region. The average length of vertebral segments involved for the tumors were 4.7 ± 4.6 segments. Six tumors had associated syringomyelia. Eight PAs were located eccentrically in the spinal cord, and eleven had well-defined margins. Eight tumors (61.5%) were intermixed cystic and solid. All were contrast-enhanced, and 53.8% of all PAs showed focal nodule enhancement of the solid components. Two PAs showed intratumoral hemorrhages, and only one demonstrated cap sign. The ADC values ( n = 3) of the tumors were 1.40 ± 0.28 × 10 − 3 mm 2 /s (min–max: 1.17–1.71 × 10 − 3 mm 2 /s). Conclusions PA should be considered in the differential diagnosis of intramedullary tumors that occur in the cervical and thoracic regions. Eccentric growth pattern, well-defined margin, intermixed cystic and solid appearance, focal nodular enhancement of solid components and syringomyelia are relatively frequent features. Relatively high ADC values compared with normal-appearing spinal cord parenchyma are common in spinal PA.

Abstract:目的探讨毛细胞型星形细胞瘤发病特点、病理学和影像学表现以及治疗方法.方法回顾性分析我院近3年来经手术病理证实的19例毛细胞型星形细胞瘤的临床资料、手术和随访结果.结果本组15例发病年龄在1.5～19岁,占全部病例的78.9%,部位以小脑多见(63%).临床表现以颅内压增高为主、其次为共济失调.影像学CT和MRI多表现为囊性伴壁结节型(52%),确诊主要依靠病理学.肿瘤全切除13例,次全切除5例,大部分切除1例.术后早期症状明显改善16例,2例出现神经功能缺失,无死亡病例.结论毛细胞型星形细胞瘤多见于20岁以下青少年,属良性胶质瘤;显微手术全切处肿瘤可取得良好效果。
Clinicopathological, Morphological and Molecular study on Grade 2 and 3 Pleomorphic Xanthoastrocytoma

Abstract:Abstract Purpose: Pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma (PXA) is an uncommon astrocytoma that tends to occur in children and young adults and has a relatively favorable prognosis, which is rated Central Nervous System (CNS) World Health Organization (WHO) grade 2 and grade 3. The histological grading was based on mitotic activity (>=2.5mitoses/mm2). The present study specifically evaluates the clinicopathological, morphological, and especially molecular characteristics of grade 2 and 3 PXA respectively. Methods: We analyzed characterized 57 tumors with histologically defined grade 2 PXA (n=37, 65%) and grade 3 PXA (n=20, 35%) at our department between 2003 and 2021. Results: Compared with grade 2, the grade 3 PXA has a deeper location and no superiority of temporal lobe, which is more likely to be accompanied by peritumoral edema, but the epilepsy symptoms are reduced. Epitheloid cells and necrosis were more likely occur in grade 3 PXA in histomorphology. Molecular analysis found that TERT promoter mutation more occurred in grade 3 than that in grade 2 PXA (35% VS 3%, P=0.0005), and all mutation sites were C228T. Conclusion: These data define PXA as a heterogeneous astrocytoma. Grade 2 and grade 3 PXA have their respective clinicopathological and histological characteristics, also confirm a distinct molecular profile. And TERT promoter mutations may be a significant genetic event associated with anaplastic progression.

Abstract:To study clinicopathologic features, treatment and prognosis of pilocytic astrocytoma (PA).Histopathological, ultrastructural, immunohistochemical (EnVision method) and clinical features of 68 cases of PA were studied by microscopic investigation with correlation of clinical follow-up information when available.Thirty-five male patients and 33 female patients were studied. The patient's age ranged from 3 to 66 years (mean = 20.1 years). The mean time from symptom onset to surgery was 371 days (range, 3 days to 14 years). Cystic degeneration was noted in 41 cases (60.3%), and enhancement of the tumor was noted in 43 cases (87.8%). On postcontrast imaging examination there were 33 cases involving the cerebellum (48.5%). Total tumor excision was performed in 35 patients, subtotal tumor excision was performed in 31 patients, and the procedures of other 2 patients were not clear. Among 51 patients with follow-up information, 44 were alive, 7 had recurrent tumor, and 7 died. The post-operative survival ranged from 2 months to 124 months (mean survival = 48.1 months). Five years and ten years survival rates were 89%, respectively. Tumors with classic histopathology demonstrated biphasic pattern of growth, consisting of compact elongated bipolar astrocytes associated with rosenthal fibers, and less cellular areas of multipolar cells with granular bodies and microcyst. Some cases showed atypia of nuclei, and occasional mitoses. Involvement of subarachnoid space was seen in 17 cases. One case had anaplastic features. All cases showed diffuse positive staining for GFAP and low expression for Ki-67, except 1 anaplastic tumor with 10% Ki-67 indices. Tumors with subarachnoid space involvement showed positive reticular fiber staining and negative EMA staining.PA is a benign, WHO grade I tumor with favorable prognosis, and does not require radiotherapy after total resection. The tumor can be mistaken as higher-grade astrocytoma when involving the subarachnoid space, and with cytological atypia, leading to unnecessary radiotherapy after surgery. Recurrence rate is increased when only partial resection is achieved. The outcome for patients with brainstem tumor or anaplastic PA is poor.
