Study of the Administrative Approach of Newborns Screening in Zhejiang Province

Abstract:Newborns screening is a fundamental approach to prevent disability from occurrence and improve survival conditions of the population.The administrative approach adopted in the province is decided by the Provincial Health Bureau,which is responsible for the supervision and administration of newborns screening,establishing and operating the Provincial Newborns Screening Administration Center,taking charge of the lab testing,treatment and follow-up visits for newborns screening,and establishing and operating the Newborns Screening Administration Center for localities in the province.Since 1999 when the present approach came into being,newborns screening rate has rocketed from 6.11% in 1999 to 94.55% in 2007.The practices in newborns screening include securing supports and funding from the government and communities,secure powerful professional support,and develop the screening network based on the tertiary network for women and children healthcare.To achieve the goals of enhanced newborns screening,scientific popularization and financial support are expected in the future in an effort to expand the screening coverage of diseases,and establish the logistic center for special nutrients and drugs.
