Abstract:Tuberculosis (TB) continues to be a global public health problem for its wide prevalence and large number of patients. The lack of a perfect animal model mimicing human tuberculosis has greatly hampered the resolution of this problem.Nonhuman primates are the best animal model to mimic human tuberculosis with irreplaceable advantages in many aspects.Mice, guinea pigs and rabbits are widely used in related studies, and mature models have been established for acute and chronic infection, specific site of infection, and infection complicated by other diseases.Rats and cattle are also used but not so widely as the above animals.Drosophila and zebra fish are new animal models of tuberculosis which are mainly used in the studies of innate immunity and granuloma forming.
