Current status of control of surgical site infections in China

Abstract:OBJECTIVE To understand the current status of control of surgical site infections in China so as to provide guidance for prevention and control of the surgical site infections.METHODS The questionnaires of control of surgical site infections were designed by research group,the province-level,prefecture-level and county-level hospitals were extracted from 14 provinces in eastern,middle and western parts of China by the Chinese Hospital Association Hospital Infection Management Professional Committee from Mar 2016 to Jun 2016,and the questionnaires were issued and fed back for statistical analysis.RESULTS Among 199 hospitals that were enrolled in the study,87.63％ conducted the targeted surveillance of surgical site infections,61.30％ detected the patients with suspected surgical site infections through the informatization alarming system,and 38.69％ achieved the hospital infection information system'docking with the operating room anesthesia information system.In regard to the skin preparation in operating zone,63.31％ of the hospitals used blade for scraping,11.56％ used chemical hair removal method,4.52 ％ used electric shearing method,and 3.51％ used conventional method of not removing the hair;71.35 ％ of the hospitals used povidone for skin disinfection,15.07 ％ used iodine-alcohol,and 2.51 ％ used chlorhexidine;86.94％ of the hospitals used hydrogen peroxide plasma cryogenic sterilization method for the sterilization of lens of laparoscopes,and 23.62 ％ used chemical soaking method.CONCLUSION The situation of prevention and control of the surgical sites infections is increasingly improved in China,the surveillance and informatization of the surgical sites infection develop rapidly,however,there are a variety of problems in the implementation of prevention measures of surgical site infections that need to be improved.
