Reliability and validity of reproductive health literacy scale for pregnant women

Abstract:Objective To evaluate the reliability and validity of the reproductive health literacy scale for pregnant women.Methods Stratified and cluster sampling was conducted and 120 early pregnant women were surveyed in three community healthcare centers of different levels in Pudong New Area of Shanghai.The participants filled in the questionnaires again after a week before they attended the School for Pregnant Women.The degree of difficulty,distinction degree and Cronbach's αwere used to conduct item analysis.The internal consistency Cronbach's αcoefficient,split-half reliability and test-retest reliability were conducted to measure the reliability.The content validity and confirmatory factor analysis were used to test the validity.Results Two items were canceled ("B07 knowing the importance of accepting regular antenatal care"and"B31 avoiding risk factors in living or occupational environment").The Cronbach's α of General Health Literacy,Healthcare Literacy,Disease Prevention Literacy and Health Promotion Literacy was 0.848,0.711,0.746 and 0.617,respectively.The Guttman split-half Coefficient was 0.841,and the test-retest reliability correlation coefficient was 0.751.The content validity was good.The results of the confirmatory factor analysis showed that the indicators of χ2/df,RMSEA,RMR,GFI and AGFI in the Healthcare Literacy model were 2.321,0.050,0.098, 0.927 and 0.907,respectively,and in Disease Prevention Literacy model were 3.156,0.064,0.044,0.964 and 0.934,respectively, and in Health Promotion Literacy model were 2.761,0.074,0.031,0.993 and 0.948,respectively.Conclusion The scale of reproductive health literacy for pregnant women has acceptable validity and reliability.
