Abstract:Objective To investigate the feasibility of intratracheal mucous grafting in the treatment of canine inhalation injury. Methods Steam inhalation injury of canine model was utilized to carry out mucous autografting.Twelve canines were divided into two groups randomly.Normal mucous membrane of buccal was excised and made into pieces of 10 mm × 6 mm in size. Then the pieces were transplanted to intratracheal wound beds which damaged mucosa had been debrided, and fixed by using medical ZT glue.No transplantations were performed in control group. After 2 or 3 weeks, the samples were collected for gross observation, optical microscopic and transmission electron microscopci examinations. Results All 6 cases in experimental group survived postoperatively and no infection, necrosis or cicartrization were observed.Among 6 cases of control group, there were 2 cases of wound infection and 4 cases of granulation or cicartrization. There was statistically significant difference in white blood cells 24 h postoperation between experimental group and control group((P)(0.05).)Wound healing time was shortened obviously.Histomorphology revealed that all transplanted mucosa could survive in 2 weeks postoperatively and the structure had adaptive changes. No metaplasias were observed in 3 weeks postoperatively. Conclusion Mucous autografting is feasible in the treatment of inhalation injury limited in trachea. It can reduce infection rate and promote wound healing.
