Abstract:This paper studies the joint estimation problem of ranges, DOAs, and frequencies of near-field narrowband sources and proposes a new computationally efficient algorithm, which employs a symmetric uniform linear array, uses eigenvalues together with the corresponding eigenvectors of two properly designed matrices to estimate signal parameters, and does not require searching for spectral peak or pairing among parameters. In addition, the proposed algorithm can be applied in arbitrary Gaussian noise environment since it is based on the fourth-order cumulants, which is verified by extensive computer simulations.

Abstract:Near-field source localization using passive sensor arrays plays an important role in array signal processing areas. Although many algorithms have been developed to deal with this issue, most of them suffer from either parameter match or heavy loss of the aperture or high computational complexity problems. To overcome these problems, a new algorithm is proposed in this paper to jointly estimate the ranges, directions-of-arrival (DOAs), and frequencies of multiple near-field narrow-band sources. Simulation results verify that the proposed algorithm can resolve these problems and give much better performance.

Abstract:A computationally efficient method for jointly estimating both Directions Of Arrival (DOA) and ranges of near field sources is presented. The proposed algorithm does not need any spectral peak searching and the 2-D parameters are automatically paired. It is suitable for arbitrary additive Gaussian noise environment. Furthermore, its performances are confirmed by computer simulations.

Abstract:This work presents an effective and robust methodology to achieve the joint estimation of direction-of-arrival (DOA) and range. One or more near-field sources are the signals of interest. Far-field sources and alpha-stable noise are additive interferences and will be removed in two steps. First, alpha-stable noise is suppressed into Gaussian or sub-Gaussian noise through a proposed mathematical limiter. Then, the near-field sources are separated from the mixed sources according to the specific technique. The two steps involve three key technologies, including noise reduction, sparse reconstruction, and subspace decomposition. In the experiments, we design an assessment standard for missing detection in data calculation, which is of utmost importance to demonstrate the novel methodology's superiority compared to the other existing competitive ones.

Abstract:In this paper, the problem of joint frequency, direction of arrival (DOA) and range estimation for near-field sources in array signal processing is addressed. Using the state-space realization approach, a subspace based estimation algorithm is proposed, which does not need any spectral peak searching and the 3-D parameters are automatically paired. Furthermore, the proposed method is applicable to arbitrary additive Gaussian noise environment. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is verified via computer simulations.

Abstract:In this paper, a virtual sensing matrix-based direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation method is proposed for the joint sensing and communication system. To maintain high communication rate, fully nonorthogonal communication waveforms are employed, which however, limit the virtual array derivation in the existing DOA estimation methods to achieve accurate estimation. To address this problem, we formulate a virtual sensing matrix from the estimated sensing channels, rather than directly constructing the virtual array from the received signals. As such, the reliance on the waveform orthogonality during virtual array derivation can be avoided. As a result, the DOAs of non-cooperative targets can be estimated by treating the virtual sensing matrix as the equivalent first-order observation matrix of an augmented virtual array and incorporating the subspace processing. Simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed method in both estimation accuracy and angular resolution.

Abstract:Two novel algorithms are proposed for ranges, frequencies and direction-of-arrivals (DOAs) estimation of the narrow-band near field sources. By exploiting the time-domain and space-domain correlations of impinging signals jointly, we can identify 2p independent sources and estimate 3 groups of parameters with a uniformly linear array (ULA) of 2p + 1 elements, being double of the conventional methods. In addition, the peak search and pairing operations, needed in most algorithms for near field sources, can be omitted completely in our methods. Simulation results show that our two ESPRIT-based methods provide the improved performance over conventional ones based on the second-order statistics.

Abstract:Passive localization of nonstationary sources in the spherical coordinates (azimuth, elevation, and range) is considered, and a parallel factor analysis based method is addressed for the near-field parameter estimation problem. In this scheme, a parallel factor analysis model is firstly constructed by computing five time-frequency distribution matrices of the properly chosen observation data. In addition, the uniqueness of the constructed model is proved, and both the two-dimensional (2D) direction-of-arrival (DOA) and range can be jointly obtained via trilinear alternating least squares regression (TALS). The investigated algorithm is well suitable for near-field nonstationary source localization and does not require parameter-pairing or multidimensional search. Several simulation examples confirm the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Abstract:A new near-field multiple source localization algorithm for joint range and direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation is proposed. Via joint diagonalization of a set of matrices, the array manifold matrix is estimated and the automatically paired DOA and range parameters are obtained subsequently. The proposed algorithm does not require any search over the parameter space or any additional 2-D parameter paring procedure or high-order statistics (HOS) computation compared with the existing near-field source localization methods. Simulation results validate that the root mean square errors (RMSEs) of the estimated DOA and range parameters are close to the Cramer–Rao bounds (CRBs).

Abstract:Joint direction-of-arrival (DOA) and range estimation based on frequency diverse array (FDA) have been a critical issue in radar detection, tracking, and navigation. This paper first proposes a bidirectional extension frequency diverse coprime array (BE-FDCA) to obtain an extended 2D virtual array with a larger degree of freedom (DOF). Furthermore, on top of BE-FDCA, we introduce a sparse reconstruction algorithm, referred to as SR-BE-FDCA, to avoid time-consuming peak searches. The algorithm includes two key steps: sparse reconstruction of Decoupled Atomic Norm Minimization (DANM) and 2D ESPRIT estimation. With the aid of these designs, our approach achieves more accurate DOA and range estimations. Finally, numerical simulations are implemented to demonstrate the effectiveness of our method.

Abstract:This letter presents an effective direction of arrival (DOA) and range estimation algorithm for a single near-field source. In the proposed algorithm, a correlation function is firstly constructed based on the array configuration. Then, the phase which contains the information about the DOA and range is extracted. By utilizing the least square operation, the closed-form solutions of DOA and range are obtained. Compared to the existing high-order statistics based estimate algorithm which involves spectral search and eigenvalue decomposition (EVD), the proposed algorithm can provide higher computation efficiency and improved estimate accuracy. Simulations are carried out to verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Abstract:This paper proposes a new algorithm based on parallel factor (PARAFAC) analysis for direction of arrival (DOA) and range estimation of near-field cyclostationary sources .We compute three third-order cyclic moment matrices using the uniform linear array outputs .A parallel factor model is constructed in the cyclic statistics domain and solved via trilinear alternating least squares (TALS) .Both DOA and range of each source can be obtained without spectral searching and pairing paramenters .This algo-rithm can effectively suppress the additive stationary noise with any distribution and the cyclostationary interference .The simulation results of the root mean square error (RMSE ) confirm the satisfactory performance of the proposed method .

Abstract:The source number and direction of arrival (DOA) estimation are two key issues in array signal processing, and the estimation performance will degrade severely for closely spaced sources with large power differences. Especially for the weak sources, the interference from the closely spaced strong sources will disable most traditional algorithms to estimate accurately. In this paper, a novel joint estimation method is proposed for source number and DOA estimation. Through obtaining the eigen spatial spectrum of each eigenvector and comparing the spectrum peak with the threshold, the proposed method can effectively improve the source number and DOA estimation performance, especially for weak sources. Finally, numerical experiments are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:A novel joint estimation algorithm for ranges,frequencies and DOAs of multiple near-field narrowband sources is proposed in the near field is proposed. The approach extends the parallel factor(PARAFAC) analysis model from the common data-domain and subspace multiple invariance sensor array(MI-SAP) formulations to the Cumulant one,and forms three-way arrays by using the Cumulant matrices got from array outputs,and analyzes the uniqueness of low-rank decomposition of the three-way arrays,then jointly estimates the ranges,frequencies and DOAs from the matrices via low-rank decomposition.This new method only uses three Cumulant matrices,and doesn't require searching spectral peak or pairing parameters,and is easily implemented.Finally,the simulation results are presented to validate the performance of the proposed method.

Abstract:This paper proposes a new subspace-based algorithm to jointly estimate the frequencies,directions of arrival(DOAs),and ranges of multiple near-field narrow-band sources.Firstly,the proposed method constructs four cumulant matrices by virtue of the fourth-order cumulants of some properly chosen sensor outputs;secondly,by using the above-mentioned four matrices,it forms three new ones,from whose eigenvalues the source parameters can be easily obtained.In comparison with some available cumulant-based methods,the proposed algorithm can make efficient use of the array aperture,and thus has a higher estimation accuracy.Simulation results also show that the proposed method is of such performance.

Abstract:In this paper, a new algorithm with high-resolution is presented estimating simultaneously both the directions of arrival (DOA) and the source frequencies (FOA) based on the MUSIC algorithm. Some asymmetry is introduced to expand the array manifold matrix A ( theta , f) and make possible the joint detection of DOA and FOA using 1-D uniform-1-inear-array (ULA). Finally, the simulation results are also introduced to demonstrate the high performance of the algorithm.

Abstract:This paper proposes a new algorithm to jointly estimate the frequencies and two-dimensional (2-D) directions-of-arrival (DOA) of multiple narrowband sources. Firstly, this algorithm constructs four cumulant matrices using the fourth-order cumulants of some properly chosen sensor outputs, and secondly, unlike the conventional parallel factor (PARAFAC) model in the data or subspace domain, it forms a three-way array (TWA) in the cumulant domain, and analyzes the uniqueness of the low-rank TWA decomposition. Thirdly, it jointly estimates the signal parameters from four diagonal matrices that are obtained from the low-rank decomposition of this TWA. The proposed method requires neither pairing parameters nor search computation, and can be applied to arbitrary Gaussian noise environment. Simulation results are presented to validate the performance of the proposed method.
