BF4-, consists of a planar 2-thioxo- 1,3-dithiol-4,5-yl unit [ maximum deviation from the ring plane = 0.020 (3) angstrom], with an ethylenedioxy group fused at the 4,5-positions; the ethylenedioxy C atoms are disordered over two positions with site-occupancy factors of 0.5. Abstract:The electronic structures of dicarboxylate-bridged complexes containing dimolybdenum and ditungsten quadruple bonds have been investigated using density function theory (gradient corrected and time-dependent), which reveals the consequences of strong mixing of M 2 δ and oxalate π orbitals within extended chains and cyclic structures. Where the bridge is oxalate, acetylene dicarboxylate, and perfluoroterephthalate (PFT), the M 2 centers are in all cases strongly coupled through M 2 δ to bridge π-conjugation. In the case of the chain compounds, this is strongly mediated by torsion angles along the chain. For the squares, only when the bridge is PFT is there a dependence on the orientation of the phenyl ring.

Abstract:The dinuclear complexes of 1,5-bis(1′-phenyl-3'-methyl-5'-pyrazolone-4')-l,5-pentanedione (H2L) with samarium, Sm2LL3 · 7H2OO (1) and Sm2LL3,, · 5DMF (2), have been synthesized. The X-ray crystal structure of Sm2LL3 · 5DMF has been determined. In complex 2. each L bonds two samarium atoms with its two ;-diketona-diketonate groups. The L acts as a bridging ligand. There are two DMF molecules bonded to each samarium atom. The coordination number of the two samarium atoms is eight (six oxygen atoms from three B--diketonates and the other two oxygen atoms from two DMF carbonyls). The eight atoms around the samarium make up a distorted square antiprism configuration. There are large differences between coordinated and uncoordinated DMF molecules.

Abstract:Numerous experimental and theoretical studies have been conducted to explore the bonding models and relative stability of Cr2,Mo2,W2 groups within chromium family.This paper reviews the current research trajectory and recent advancements,specially focusing on their bonding configurations and strategies for further stabilization.The analysis suggests that the instability of Cr2,Mo2,W2 groups results from the electron repulsion in tightly packed electrons between the two individual atoms.Thus,approaches to stabilize these molecules fundamentally aim to reduce electron density and mitigate electron-electron repulsion.

Abstract:Through the reaction of Fe-2(SO4)(3)/HOAc aqueous solution with sodium eta(5)-substituted or unsubstituted cyclopentadienyltricarbonylmolybdenate(tungstate) salts Na[M(eta(5)-C5H4R)(CO)(3)], eight bis(eta(5)-substituted or unsubstituted cyclopentadienyl) hexacarbonyldimolybdenum (tungsten) complexes [(eta(5)-C5H4R)(CO)(3)M](2) (M = Mo, R = H (1), COH (2), COC6H5 (3), COC6H4COOCH3 (4); M = W, R = H (5), COH (6), COC6H5 (7), COC6H4COOCH3 (8)) were prepared and characterized by analysis, IR and H-1 NMR spectra. The molecular structure of complex (3) was determined by single-crystal X-ray methods.

Abstract:We describe the mononuclear anionic cyanido-pentafluorophenyl complexes, (NBu4)[Pt(C^N)(C6F5)(CN)] [C^N = 7,8-benzoquinolate (bzq) 1, 2-(2,4-difluorophenyl)pyridinate (dfppy) 2] and the heteropolynuclear derivatives [{Pt(C^N)(C6F5)(CN)}Tl] (C^N = bzq 3, dfppy 4). These complexes were synthesized via a two-step modular synthesis by reaction of the corresponding potassium salts K[Pt(C^N)(C6F5)(CN)], prepared in situ from [Pt(C^N)(C6F5)(DMSO)] and KCN in acetone/H2O, with TlPF6. The structures of {[Pt(bzq)(C6F5)(CN)Tl]·THF}n (3·THF)n and [{Pt(dfppy)(C6F5)(CN)}Tl]4·Dioxane [4]4·Dioxane, determined by X-ray crystallography, confirm the presence of Pt(II)-Tl(I) bonds [2.9795(6)-3.0736(3) Å], but in the dfppy complex, the incorporation of dioxane, causes a significant structural change. Thus, whereas [3·THF]n achieves a bent-ladder shape extended double chain Tl··[·Pt···Tl·]n··Pt supported by lateral bridging [Pt](-CN)[Tl] ligands, [4]4·Dioxane is formed by discrete Pt4Tl4 rectangular aggregates stabilized by [Pt](-CN)[Tl] and Pt··Tl bonds, which are connected by dioxane bridging molecules through Tl···O(dioxane) additional contacts. Solid state emissions are redshifted compared with the mononuclear derivatives 1 and 2 and have been assigned, with the support of theoretical calculations on Pt4Tl4 models, to metal-metal'-to-ligand charge transfer (3MM'LCT [d/s *(Pt, Tl)*(C^N)]) for 3 and mixed 3MM'LCT/ 3IL for 4. In fluid THF solution, the complexes are not emissive. At 77 K, 3 and 4 exhibit bright emissions attributed to the formation of bimetallic [{Pt(C^N)(C6F5)CN}Tl(THF)x], and anionic [Pt(C^N)(C6F5)CN]- fragments. Furthermore, both 3 and 4 exhibit a reversible mechanochromism with a red shift of the emissions upon crushing, suggesting some degree of shortening of metal-metal separation. Finally, complex 3 shows solvatochromic behavior with color/luminescence changes by treatment with a drop of MeOH, CH2Cl2, THF or Et2O, with shifts from 583 in 3-MeOH to 639 nm in 3-THF. Abstract:The electronic structure and bonding of the dinuclear low-valent molybdenum thiolato-bridged complexes, [Mo2(μ-SR)2(CO)8]n− (n = 2, 1; n = 0, 2; R = CH2COOEt), Mo2(μ-SR)2(CO)6(NCCH3)2 (3) and [Mo2(μ-S,S-C6H4-1,2(CO)7]2− (4), have been studied using the EHMO method. On the basis of analysis of the MO energies, orbital characteristics, atomic charges and Mulliken bond orders, the possible oxidation of these complexes was discussed. The Walsh diagram shows that further two-electron oxidation of 2 would be very unlikely. However, because 4 contains a non-planar MoS2Mo bimetallic core, an irreversible one-electron oxidation in solution could take place to form a monoanion complex [Mo2(μ-S,S-C6H4-1,2)(CO)7(NCH)]1−.

Abstract:Ab initio calculations with relativistic effective potentials have been carried out on 12 trinuclear molybdenum/tungsten cluster aqua ions [M3X4(H2O)9]4− (M3= Mo3, W3 for X = O, S, Se, Te; M3=Mo2W, MoW2 for X = O, S). The electronic structures and bonding pictures of l-12 are discussed in terms of the delocalized and localized molecular orbitals as well as the Mulliken populations, natural populations, and Mayer bond orders. It is shown that the (d-p)ρ bonding in the puckered six-membered ring of the [M3(µ-X)3] core arises from a closed continuous ring of three mutually adjacent localized (d-p-d)ρ bonds with strong interactions. It is these three-centered two-electron (d-p-d)ρ bonds that account for the unusual physicochemical properties and reactivities of these cluster compounds. The wavelengths and the assignment of electronic spectra have been given, and the relation between the wavelength shili and the (d-p)ρ bonding is discussed, The reactivities of the ligand substitution reactions and two kinds of addition reactions as weil as some kinetic and redox properties of these compounds are briefly discussed by taking advantage of this Iocalization (d-p-d)ρ a bonding picture.

Abstract:Binuclear complexes [Cp*Ir-2(2)(mu-DB)Cl-2] (1-5) (Cp* = eta(5)-C5Me5, DB = 2,5-diarylamino-1,4-benzoquinone derivatives) were obtained by the reactions of [Cp*Ir(mu-Cl)Cl](2) with 2,5-diarylamino-1,4-benzoquinone derivatives in the presence of base. Abstract:Reaction of FeCl3 · 4 H2O with dttd2-, the dianion of 2,3,8,9-dibenzo-1.4,7,10-tetru-thiadecane, leads to the solvated [Fe(dttd)], which coordinates CO, PMe3 and N3H4 yielding [Fe(CO)2dttd], [Fe(PMe3)2dttd], [Fe(CO)PMe3(dttd)], [Fe(N2H4)2dttd] and [Fe(N2H4)CO(dttd), respectively. With H2S and [Fe(dttd)] the Fe(III) complex (PPN)2[Fe2(S)2(dttd)2] is obtained. PPh3 cannot be coordinated to [Fe(dttd)], whereas the reaction between [Fe(PPh3)(CO)3I2] and LiSC6H4SCH3yields [Fe(PPh3)CO(CH3SCeH4S)2] besides the major product [Fe(CO)2(CH3SCeH4S)2]. A PPh3 complex can be obtained also with o-benzenedithiolate, C6H4S22-: Reacting [Fe(PPh3)(CO)3I3] with Li2S2C6H4 yields the binuclear [Fe(PPh3)(CO)2C6H4S2]2. Oxidation of [Fe(N3H4)CO(dttd)] by various agents leads to [Fo(CO)dttd]2 without evidence of formation of a N2 complex intermediate. Nucleophilic attack of [Fe(CO)2(CH3SC6H4S)2] by lithium organyls as e.g. LiPh leads to the benzoylato complex [Li(THF)3][Fe(CO)(PhCO)(CH3SC6H4S)2]; the structures of the starting complex as well as of the adduct have been elucidated by X-ray structure determination. Nucleophilic attack of the corresponding [Fe(CO)2dttd] by LiPh occurs reversibly at the Fe center; by cleavage of a Fe-S bond [Fe(Ph)(CO)2dttd′]- is formed, where dttd′ is acting as a tridentate ligand. This result shows how the reactions of formally equivalent complexes like [Fe(CO)2(CH3SC6H4S)2] and [Fe(CO)2dttd] depend strongly upon the denticity of the sulfur ligands. The dependence upon the character of the nucleophilic agent is shown by the reaction of [Fe(CO)2dttd] with Li[BEt3H]; in this case again a CO ligand is attacked reversibly yielding the formyl complex [LiBEt3][Fe(HCO)CO(dttd)], the structure of which could be elucidated so far only spectroscopically as well as by elemental analysis. [Fe(Ph)(CO)gdttd′]- forms salts like e.g. (AsPh4)[Fe(Ph)(CO)2dttd]; in solution they slowly loose CO yielding e.g. binuclear (AsPh4)2[Fe(Ph)dttd]3. Attempts to isolate the anion as [Li(TMED)3]+ salt load to the loss of CO as well as of phenyl ligands yielding the paramagnetic [Fe(TMED)dttd], which is also obtained directly from [Fe(dttd)] and TMED. The phenyl complex [Fe(Ph)dttd]22- is also formed by reaction of [Fe(dttd)] with LiPh; on reaction with dimethyl-formamide it yields [Fe(DMF)dttd]2. A series of the above described compounds has been investigated by Mößbauer spectroscopy.

Abstract:Metallacyclic complexes [CP4*Ir-4(mu-L')(2)(mu-L)(2)](OTf)(4) (2a, L' = 6,11-dioxy-5,12-naphthacencdione (dhnq(2-)); L = 4-pyridyl dithioether), [CP2*Rh-2(mu-L')(mu-L)](OTf)(2) (3b), and [(p-cymene)(2)Ru-2-(mu-L')(mu-L)](OTf)(2) (3c) were obtained by the reactions of CP2*M-2(mu-L')Cl-2 (M = Ir (1a), Rh (1b)) or (p-cymene)(2)Ru-2(mu-L')Cl-2 (1c) with a flexible bipyridine-based ligand (L) in the presence of AgOTf (OTf = CF3SO3). Treatments of tetranuclear complex 2a and binuclear complexes 3b and 3c with [Cp*IrCl](2)(OTf)(2) or [Cp*RhCl](2)(OTf)(2) gave the homotrinuclear complexes [Cp-3*Ir-3(mu-L')(mu-L)Cl]-(OTf)(3) (4a) and [CP3*Rh-3(mu-L')(mu-L)Cl](OTf)(3) (4b) and heterotrinuclear complexes [CP3*Ir2Rh-(mu-L')(mu-L)Cl](OTf)(3) (4c), [CP3*Rh2Ir(mu-L')(mu-L)Cl](OTf)(3) (4d), [Cp*)-p-cymene)(2)Ru2Ir(mu.-L')-(mu-L)Cl](OTf)(3) (4e), and [Cp*)-p-cymene)(2)Ru2Rh(mu-L')(mu-L)Cl](OTf)(3) (4f), respectively. Abstract:Three dichromium hexacarbonyl complexes containing (CPPh2)2, (CHPPh2)2, and carbazole as a conjugated bridging ligand are synthesized and exhibit a variety of electronic interactions between the metal centers, which can be modified by altering either the conjugated bridging nature or the ligand bound to the metals to induce peculiar asymmetry.

Abstract:The optical spectra of the mono tetrahydrofuran ( 1 ), mono triphenylphosphinoxide ( 2 ) and bis cyclohexylisocyanide ( 3 ) adducts of the tris(bis(trimethylsilyl)amido)samarium(III) (Sm(btmsa) 3 ) moiety as well as those of the bis tetrahydrofuran ( 4 ) and partly those of the bis triphenylphosphinoxide ( 5 ) of the tris(bis(dimethylsilyl)amido)samarium(III) moiety have been recorded at room and low temperatures. From the spectra obtained, the underlying crystal field splitting patterns could be derived, and simulated by fitting the free parameters of a phenomenological Hamiltonian. The values of the crystal field parameters B $\rm^{2}_{0}$ of the OPPh 3 adducts are much less negative than those of the remaining adducts or that of the base free compound.
Exploring the Synthesis and Properties of Fluorinated Cationic Triangulenes and Their Precursors

Abstract:Fluorination of tris(2,6-dimethoxyphenyl)-methylium ((DMP)3C+) was achieved through the partial defluorination of the methyl 2,3,5,6-tetrafluorobenzoate via nucleophilic aromatic substitution. Using the fluorinated 2F((DMP)3C+) as a precursor, fluorinated tetramethoxy- and dimethoxyquin- acridinium salts (2F4 and 2F5 respectively) and trioxo-, azadioxo-, and diazaoxo- triangulenium salts (2F6, 2F7 and 2F8 respectively) were synthesized successfully in good to moderate yields. Fluorination induced significant red shifts in absorption (16 to 29 nm) and emission (13 to 41 nm) maxima, and increased electrophilicity as evidenced by lower reduction potentials. X-ray structural analysis showed distinct packing patterns compared to the non-fluorinated analogues, indicating the presence of molecular dipoles.

Abstract:Both dinuclear [3] ferrocenophane derivatives of the type Fe(C5H4E)(2)[MLn] [E = S,Se; MLn = Cp* - Cr(NO) (1), Cp* Mo(NO) (2a,2b), CpMo(NO) (3), Cp* W(NO) (4a,4b), Ca2Mo (6b), Cp2W (7a)] and trinuclear 1,1' - ferrocene dichalcogenato complexes Fe(C5H4E)(2)[MLn](2)[MLn = Cp* Cr(NO)(2), E = S(8a), Se(8b)] were synthesized and characterized by their IR, H-1 MMR and EI - MS spectra as well as their elemental analyses.

Abstract:A series of tetrathiafulvalene-substituted 2,3-di(2-pyridyl)quinoxaline (dpq) ligands, 2-(4,5-bis(methylthio)1,3-dithiol-2-ylidene)-6,7-di(pyridin-2-yl)-[1,3]dithiolo[4,5-g]quinoxaline (L-1), dimethyl-2-(6,7-di(pyridin2-yl)-[1,3]dithiolo[4,5-g]quinoxalin-2-ylidene)-1,3-dithiole-4,5-dicarboxylate (L-2), and 2-(5,6-dihydro-[1,3] dithiolo[4,5-b] [1,4]dithiin-2-ylidene)-6,7-di(pyridin-2-yl)-[1,3]dithiolo[4,5-g]quinoxaline (L-3), have been prepared. Reactions of these ligands with Re(CO)(5)Cl afford the corresponding dinuclear rhenium(I) carbonyl complexes, Re-2(L)(CO)(6)Cl-2 (L = L-1, 5a; L = L-2, 5b; L = L-3, 5c). All new compounds are fully characterized by H-1 NMR, IR and mass spectroscopies. The crystal structures of 5a and 5b have been studied. Optimized conformations and molecular orbital diagrams of 5a 5c have been calculated with density functional theory (DFT). The spin-allowed singlet-singlet electronic transitions of all complexes have been calculated with time-dependent DFT (TDDFT), and the UV-Vis-NIR spectra are discussed based on the theoretical calculations.
