Abstract:Sheath nematodes of the genus Hemicycliophora are migratory root-ectoparasites of many crops, but the damage is documented for only a few species. Hemicycliophora subbotini n. sp., isolated in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China, from the rhizosphere of camphor tree (Cinnamomum camphora (L.) Presl), is described and characterized morphologically and molecularly with important morphological details elucidated by SEM studies. The new species can be characterized by the conoid lip region, with bulging oral disc protruding beyond the first annulus in some specimens. Oral disc narrow ovate, amphidial apertures covered by lateral plates, lying in the same plane as oral disc when observed en face. Stylet 118 (108-125) μm long and flexible, stylet knobs concave shaped having a slight cavity. The excretory pore is located 1-2 annuli posterior to the base of pharyngeal bulb. Vulval lips slightly modified with small vulval sleeve, spermatheca rounded to oblong. Anus located 18 (15-22) annuli posterior to vulva. Tail elongated, with conoid or slightly offset spike having a narrowly rounded terminus. The study provides the first description of a new Hemicycliophora species from China. Phylogenetic analyses based on D2-D3 expansion segments of the 28S and ITS fragments revealed the new species forming a separate clade from other Hemicycliophora species which supported the status as a new species of this genus.

Abstract:Summary Hemicycliophora species are migratory root ectoparasites of higher plants, commonly known as sheath nematodes. The present study describes a new species, Hemicycliophora geraerti n. sp., recovered from the rhizosphere of peach tree (Prunus persica) in Zhejiang Province, China. This species is characterised by a cuticular sheath loosely fitting to the body, a lip region slightly set-off with body contour bearing 3-4 annuli, oral plate narrow, ovate, and non-protruding, amphidial apertures plugged, dorsoventrally flanked in the first lip annulus, stylet 110 (103-116) μm long and flexible, excretory pore located 4-7 annuli posterior to the base of the pharyngeal bulb; vulval lips modified with a small vulval sleeve, anus located 16 (13-21) annuli posterior to vulva, tail elongated, having a narrowly rounded slightly offset spike. The molecular characterisation and phylogenetic analyses based on D2-D3 expansion segments of the 28S rRNA, ITS rRNA, and COI mtDNA gene indicated the unique status and support the novelty of this population of Hemicycliophora, therefore herein described as H. geraerti n. sp.

Presl (Lauraceae) belongs to the subfamily Cecidophyinae and Fairina dimocarpi gen. nov. & sp. nov. infesting Dimocarpus longan Lour. (Sapindaceae) belongs to the subfamily Phyllocoptinae. Both new species are vagrants causing no apparent damage to their host plants.

Abstract:Erythroneurini is the largest tribe of the microleafhopper subfamily Typhlocybinae. Most prior research on this tribe has focused on traditional classification, phylogeny, and control of agricultural pests, and the phylogeography of the group remains poorly understood. In this study, the mitochondrial genomes of 10 erythroneurine species were sequenced, and sequences of four genes were obtained for 12 geographical populations of Seriana bacilla. The new sequence data were combined with previously available mitochondrial DNA sequence data and analyzed using Bayesian and Maximum-Likelihood-based phylogenetic methods to elucidate relationships among genera and species and estimate divergence times. Seriana was shown to be derived from within Empoascanara. Phylogeographic and population genetic analysis of the endemic Chinese species Seriana bacilla suggest that the species diverged about 54.85 Mya (95% HPD: 20.76-66.23 million years) in the Paleogene period and that population divergence occurred within the last 14 million years. Ancestral area reconstruction indicates that Seriana bacilla may have originated in the central region of Guizhou, and geographical barriers are the main factors affecting gene flow among populations. Ecological niche modeling using the MaxEnt model suggests that the distribution of the species was more restricted in the past but is likely to expand in the future years 2050 and 2070.

Abstract:Three new species of the genus Oecleopsis Emeljanov, 1971 from China, O. acerbus Lv & Chen, sp. nov. and O. panxianensis Lv & Chen, sp. nov. from Guizhou Province, and O. digitatus Lv & Chen, sp. nov. from Sichuan Province, are described and illustrated. With these additions, the number of species in the genus is increased to 18. An updated identification key and checklist of all known species of Oecleopsis are provided as well as a map of their geographic distributions.

Abstract:Two new species of the genus Thelcticopis Karsch, 1884, T. dahanensis Zhu & Zhong, sp. nov. (♂) and T. unciformis Zhu & Zhong, sp. nov. (♂), are described and figured from Taiwan Island. Thelcticopis severa (L. Koch, 1875) is recorded from Guangdong and Fujian provinces for the first time. So far, Thelcticopis, including four species from China, is mainly distributed in the tropical or subtropical areas of China (Hainan, Taiwan, Yunnan, Guangdong, Fujian).

Abstract:A new species of inquiline, Lithosaphonecrus edurus Fang, Melika, and Tang, new species (Hymenoptera: Cynipidae: Synergini) is described from Emeishan, Sichuan Province, China. Lithosaphonecrus edurus is associated with an as yet undetermined cynipid gall on Lithocarpus cleistocarpus var. cleistocarpus and var. omeiensis, L. hancei and L. megalophyllus (Fagaceae). Description, diagnosis, phenology, and host association for the new species are given. The new species is supported by morphological and molecular data.

Abstract:A new leafhopper genus Sugea gen. nov. is described and illustrated here based on type species Sugea obtusangula sp. nov. from Yunnan Province, China, and placed in the tribe Dikraneurini (subfamily Typhlocybinae). Sugea is easily distinguishable from all other known dikraneurine genera based on the angulate face profile with a distinct submarginal furrow present along the anterior and lateral margins.

Abstract:Two new species of the genus Eotmethis Bey-Bienko, 1948, namely Eotmethis xiai sp. nov., and Eotmethis platyverticus sp. nov. from the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and Gansu province are described in this paper. The new species Eotmethis xiai sp. nov. is allied to E. recipennis Xi & Zheng, 1986, but differs from latter by the vertical diameter of eye about 1.2 times as long as horizontal diameter, prozona of pronotum equal to metazona, tegmina of female shorter, reaching 2nd abdominal tergite only. The new species Eotmethis platyverticus sp. nov. is allied to E. holanennis Zheng & Gow, 1981, but differs from latter by width of vertex between eyes 2 times diameter of eye and prozona of pronotum longer than metazoan in female. The type specimens are deposited in College of Life Sciences, Hebei University, Baoding, China.

Abstract:Three genera with eyes setose of Braconinae (Hymenoptera: Braconidae), i.e. Chelonogastra Ashmead, Ectemnoplax Enderlein and Pycnobracon Cameron, are reported in China with five species recognized, one of them is new species: Ectemnoplax xizanginensis, sp. nov. The new species is described and illustrated in detail. Pycnobracon is reported from China for the first time. The type specimens are deposited in the Parasitic Hymenoptera Collection, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China (ZJUH).

Abstract:Two new armoured scale insect species (Hemiptera: Coccomorpha: Diaspididae) are described and illustrated from Guizhou Province, China. Aulacaspis pericampylus sp. n. was collected from Pericampylus glaucus (Menispermaceae) and Aulacaspis multispinata sp. n. was collected from Cinnamomum camphora (Lauraceae). The type specimens of both new species are deposited in the Institute of Entomology, Guizhou University, Guiyang, China (GUGC). A key to the Aulacaspis species known from China, based on the morphology of the adult females, is provided.
