Abstract:In proteomic analysis, the high efficient separation of proteins from complex biosample matrixes is the prerequisite. In recent years, various nanomaterials/nanostructures serve as adsorbents for solid phase extraction (SPE) have drawn a lot of attention in the selective separation and enrichment of proteins. This is ascribed to the unique chemical and physical properties of nanostructures, which confer high adsorption capacity and preconcentration factors. The purpose of the review is to depict the state-of-the-art development of exploiting nanostructures/nanomaterials as adsorbents for the selective isolation and enrichment of various proteins. For the sake of clarity, the recently reported nanomaterials/nanostructures for this purpose are classified into six main categories, i.e., carbon nanostructures, silicon nanostructures, magnetic nanomaterials, metal-organic frameworks, polymeric materials and other nanostructures. Moreover, future perspectives or challenges in the related field are depicted.
