Abstract:The preconditioned Gauss-Seidel type iterative method for solving linear systems, with the proper choice of the preconditioner, is presented. Convergence of the preconditioned method applied to Z-matrices is discussed. Also the optimal parameter is presented. Numerical results show that the proper choice of the preconditioner can lead to effective by the preconditioned Gauss-Seidel type iterative methods for solving linear systems.

Abstract:The preconditioner for solving the linear system Ax=b introduced in [D.J. Evans, M.M. Martins, M.E. Trigo, The AOR iterative method for new preconditioned linear systems, J. Comput. Appl. Math. 132 (2001) 461–466] is generalized. Results obtained in this paper show that the convergence rate of Jacobi and Gauss–Seidel type methods can be increased by using the preconditioned method when A is an M-matrix.

Abstract:Many researchers have considered preconditioners chosen to eliminate the off-diagonal elements of the coefficient matrix of a linear system. In this work, we generalize the left Gauss type preconditioners [Y. Zhang, T.Z. Huang, X.P. Liu, Modified iterative methods for nonnegative matrices and M-matrices linear systems, Comput. Math. Appl. 50 (2005) 1587–1602] which eliminate the strictly lower triangular elements. Right Gauss type preconditioners that eliminate strictly upper triangular elements are proposed in this paper. These Gauss type preconditioners are partly derived from the LU factorization method. Theoretic analysis on spectral radii of the two kinds of Gauss type preconditioners is given. Numerical experiments are used to show the performance of the improved inbuilt left and right Gauss type preconditioning algorithms associated with Jacobi type and Gauss–Seidel type iterative methods.

Abstract:<p>In this paper, a new preconditioned iterative method is presented to solve a class of nonsymmetric nonsingular or singular saddle point problems. The implementation of the proposed preconditioned Krylov subspace method avoids solving inverse of Schur complement and only needs to solve one linear sub-system at each step, which implies that it may save considerable costs. Theoretical convergence analysis, including the bounds of eigenvalues and eigenvectors, the degree of the minimal polynomial of the preconditioned matrix, are discussed in details. Moreover, a novel algebraic estimation technique for finding a practical iteration parameter is presented, which is very effective and practical even for large scale problems. At last, some numerical examples are carried, showing that the theoretical results are valid and convincing.</p>

Abstract:We introduce a numerical solver for the steady-state Boltzmann equation based on the symmetric Gauss-Seidel (SGS) method. To solve the nonlinear system on each grid cell derived from the SGS method, a fixed-point iteration preconditioned with its asymptotic limit is developed. The preconditioner only requires solving an algebraic system which is easy to implement and can speed up the convergence significantly especially in the case of small Knudsen numbers. Additionally, we couple our numerical scheme with the multigrid method to accelerate convergence. A variety of numerical experiments are carried out to illustrate the effectiveness of these methods.

Abstract:In this paper, first, by using the diagonally compensated reduction and incomplete Cholesky factorization methods, we construct a constraint preconditioner for solving symmetric positive definite linear systems and then we apply the preconditioner to solve the Helmholtz equations and Poisson equations. Second, according to theoretical analysis, we prove that the preconditioned iteration method is convergent. Third, in numerical experiments, we plot the distribution of the spectrum of the preconditioned matrix M−1A and give the solution time and number of iterations comparing to the results of [5, 19].

Abstract:A preconditioned gradient-based iterative method is derived by judicious selection of two auxiliary matrices. The strategy is based on the Newton's iteration method and can be regarded as a generalization of the splitting iterative method for system of linear equations. We analyze the convergence of the method and illustrate that the approach is able to considerably accelerate the convergence of the gradient-based iterative method.
