Abstract:Odor from large-scale pig farm, as an issue of environmental risk, has been affecting the health of nearby residents. Setting setback distance has been viewed as an effective way to control odorous pollution and relieve the health impact of the residents near the pig farm. This study summarized six different models for setback distance of odor from large-scale pig farm, which are Ontario MDS-II model, Alberta MDS, W-T, Austrian, Purdu, OFFSET model. Then we calculated the setback distance for large-scale pig farm of 50, 100, 500 and 3000 pigs by application of those models. The results showed that the Ontario MDS-II model generated low setback distances than other four models, while Purdue model appeared just the other way. And setback distances generated by OFFSET model increased rapidly as scaling up the size of operation.
