Abstract:Under the background of "double first-class" construction, the teaching staff, as the foundation of the construction of colleges and universities, determines the overall construction effect of colleges and universities.High-level teachers are the guarantee of talent cultivation, education and teaching, scientific research and competitiveness of colleges and universities.However, the improvement of teachers' quality is affected by many factors, which leads to teachers' choices that affect their overall performance when facing teaching and scientific research tasks.In view of this, this study attempts to determine the relationship between professional ability, incentive mechanism and career satisfaction in Chinese universities and colleges, and to propose ways to improve teacher quality.A total of 400 valid questionnaires were collected in this study, and SPSS 26.0 software was used for descriptive analysis, variance analysis and regression analysis.The results show that there is a positive correlation between professional ability, incentive mechanism and teacher satisfaction in Chinese universities.This means that the stronger the professional ability of teachers, the better the incentive mechanism, the higher the satisfaction of teachers, and the corresponding improvement of teacher quality.Through this research, universities may encourage and support the training and professional development of young teachers.This will help balance the age structure of the teaching force and provide more development opportunities for young teachers.As teachers themselves, they may continuously improve their level of professional ability, including teaching and academic ability, and formulate their own career plans in order to adapt to the constant changes in society.Regular teacher training programs should be established to help enhance their professional competence, while salaries and benefits should be improved to better motivate teachers.
Three Foci of Mathematic Teachers' Considerations in Evaluation of School Students' Achievements

Abstract:As part of efforts to improve the quality of mathematics' teaching and evaluation, we examined the focus of math teachers' considerations in evaluating students’ achievements, as well as the links between these focuses, regarding differences between students and the validity and reliability of assessment methods and examinations. Based on the categorization of issues that concern math teachers while assessing their students, a self-report quantitative-questionnaire was constructed and validated. The questionnaire included three foci of consideration for mathematics evaluation: considerations regarding evaluating learners, considerations regarding the choice of assessment methods, and assessment considerations that are unique to mathematics; positive, high, and significant were found between them. The main conclusion is that math teachers aspire to evaluate their students on the basis of a broad picture, that considers the needs of students studying mathematics as a unique discipline, the available assessment methods and their ability to adapt them to a valid and reliable assessment in mathematics, and the overall need to focus on the challenges and difficulties which are unique to assessing the discipline of mathematics. The findings also strengthen the claim that assessing math learning has unique considerations that are distinguished from assessment considerations in other disciplines.

Abstract:Background: Mathematics holds a critical position within educational systems worldwide due to its extensive applications. At Dadieso Senior High School in Ghana, students consistently demonstrate low performance in mathematics, necessitating an investigation into potential determinants of academic achievement.Aim: This study aims to examine the impact of students' attitudes towards mathematics and the self-efficacy of mathematics teachers on students' mathematical achievements.Method: A descriptive-correlational research design was adopted, employing quantitative methods to analyze the relationships between students' attitudes, teachers' self-efficacy, and students' academic performance. The study sampled 218 students and 7 teachers, utilizing the Attitude towards Mathematics Inventory (ATMI), the Teacher Self-Efficacy Scale (TSES), and a Mathematics Achievement Test (MAT) for data collection.Results: The analysis revealed a moderate positive correlation between students' attitudes towards mathematics and their academic performance, indicating that positive attitudes are linked to better outcomes. Furthermore, a significant, albeit smaller, positive correlation was identified between teachers' self-efficacy and student achievement, highlighting the impact of teacher confidence on student success.Conclusion: Fostering positive attitudes towards mathematics among students is essential for improving academic performance. Likewise, enhancing teachers' self-efficacy substantially influences student achievement. These factors should be the focus of interventions aimed at enhancing mathematical outcomes in educational settings.

Abstract:This cross-sectional study looks into how students' perceived teacher support is linked to achievement emotions in mathematics via academic control and value. The data was gathered from 602 secondary students (13-16-year-olds) in 16 mathematics classrooms from three public schools in Jiangsu province, China. Participants were asked to respond to the paper-pencil questionnaire assessing students' perceived teacher support, cognitive appraisals, and achievement emotions in mathematics. Findings showed that cognitive appraisals played complete mediation roles in teacher support and achievement emotions. Intrinsic value and mathematics self-concept were shown to serve a positive role in teacher support and achievement emotions, whereas extrinsic value was found to play a negative one. Besides, teacher support showed the greatest indirect effect on achievement emotions through mathematics self-concept. Lastly, findings indicated the great relevance of teacher support to students' anger, boredom, enjoyment and relaxation in mathematics classrooms.

Abstract:This study aimed to investigate secondary students’ mathematics achievement emotions and their mediating effects on the relationships between classroom environmental characteristics, namely, teacher–student interactional styles (i.e., teacher leadership and student freedom styles), and students’ mathematics learning outcomes in mainland China. A sample of 1423 Grade 7 to 9 junior secondary students responded to a questionnaire that comprised three sets of scales for assessing students’ perceived teacher–student interactional styles, mathematics achievement emotions, and cognitive and affective learning outcomes. The results indicated that students’ mathematics learning outcomes were positively associated with both teacher leadership and student freedom styles. Moreover, students’ mathematics achievement emotions mediated the relationships between these two interactional styles and their mathematics learning outcomes. These results highlight the importance of mathematics achievement emotions in student learning, and provide implications for the improvement of mathematics classroom environments.

Abstract:Background Past studies clarified the relationship between dimensions of teaching and achievement emotions. However, more information is needed about the underlying process behind this relationship among students with different mathematical abilities. Aims This study examined the association between students' perceived teaching quality and achievement emotions in Chinese mathematics classrooms, focusing on students with different mathematics achievements. Samples There are 1045 secondary school students (49.1% girls; Mage = 13.90, SD = .84) from Chinese mathematics classrooms in the present study. Methods A multi‐group structural equation model was adopted to test the relationship between teaching quality and achievement emotions between low‐ and high‐achieving students. Results Control‐value appraisals mediated in teacher support and achievement emotions in both student groups. At the same time, control‐value appraisals failed to mediate cognitive activation and achievement emotions in low‐achieving students, while the mediating effect of control‐value appraisals was identified in high‐achieving students. Besides, classroom management was related to achievement emotions via academic value only in low‐achieving students. In contrast, it was related to achievement emotions via control‐value appraisals in high‐achieving students. Conclusions The results clarified the mediation roles of control‐value appraisals in teaching quality and achievement emotions in students with low‐ and high‐achieving achievements. Similarities and differences were also identified between the two student groups. Teacher support was beneficial to students' positive emotions while classroom management helped to lessen students' negative emotions. High‐achieving students benefited more from activating teaching compared with low‐achieving students.

Abstract:With the deepening of educational reform, the value of emotional education in primary school mathematics teaching is becoming increasingly prominent. This paper aims to explore the importance of emotional education in primary school mathematics teaching and propose a series of strategies to implement emotional education effectively. First, the article emphasizes the value of emotional education in promoting students' all-round development, cultivating a positive learning attitude and enhancing their interest in mathematics. Then, by analyzing the characteristics of primary school mathematics teaching, this paper puts forward several specific strategies to implement emotional education, including the creation of emotionally rich teaching situation, paying attention to students 'emotional experience, cultivating students' cooperative spirit and building a harmonious teacher-student relationship. These strategies can help to improve the teaching quality of primary school mathematics, and can effectively promote students' emotional development and mental health. Finally, this paper summarizes the key role of emotional education in primary school mathematics teaching and offers prospects for future research and practice.

Abstract:The present study examines the first-year engineering students’ attitudes towards mathematics, their beliefs and self-efficacy about mathematics, as part of their affective performance, in relation to their mathematical academic performance before and after attending an introductory mathematics course. It aims to contribute on the ongoing discussion about the teaching of mathematics at the level of higher education in engineering programs. First-year engineering students completed a questionnaire and a test after their entrance at the university. Their mathematical performance was examined by using their results at the midterm and the final mathematical mark during AMAT111 course offered at the first semester of their studies. Results indicated that aspects of the affective domain were related with students’ performance, while the predominant role belonged to their previous mathematical knowledge and skills (as learning outcome of the high school education), which undoubtedly need further enhancement. The belief about a formalistic perspective of mathematics and the lack of understanding of the implementation of the mathematical concepts on engineering problem solving situations were obstacles for them on recognizing the importance of attending mathematics courses as part of their engineering studies. Discussion concentrates on the following up steps, which have to be done at the level of higher education in order to face the initial difficulties, which have been identified.

Abstract:This paper examines the significant impact of teachers' emotional intelligence and joyful performance in the classroom on students' positive efforts, class atmosphere, and academic performance. Based on educational psychology, it advocates that the emotional dynamics between teachers and students are indispensable in creating the best learning environment. The first part discusses the importance of emotional intelligence in teachers, emphasizing its role in cultivating strong teacher-student relationships and responsive class management. In the following section, the impact of teacher's emotional expression on students' active participation and the creation of class atmosphere was studied, indicating that positive emotions can significantly improve students' enthusiasm for participation and overall learning experience. In addition, this paper also explores responsive educational practices and emotion control strategies as important factors for effective class management. In addition, he also mentioned the influence of Professor Joy on improving learning motivation and developing innovative educational methodologies. This paper emphasizes mindfulness, reflective thinking, support from colleagues, and professional skill development, and concludes with a strategy to enhance teaching pleasure. By integrating these elements, teachers can not only improve students' academic performance, but also help them achieve emotional happiness and development.

Abstract:Positive teacher-student interaction can exert a positive influence on student engagement and math performance. As an important part of teacher-student interaction, emotional support of a teacher plays an indispensable role in the math performance of junior middle school and elementary school students. This study aimed to explore the effects of teacher's emotional support on math performance, and examine the mediating role of academic self-efficacy and math behavioral engagement. A total of 1,294 students in grades 3–5 and 7–8 from 14 junior middle and primary schools in China took part in the web-based survey. Results showed the following: (1) academic self-efficacy mediated the relationship between teacher's emotional support and math performance of Chinese primary and middle school boys and girls; math behavioral engagement mediated the relationship between teacher's emotional support and math performance of Chinese primary and middle school boys and girls; (2) The relationship between teacher's emotional support and math performance of Chinese junior middle school boys and girls was mediated by the chain of academic self-efficacy and math behavioral engagement.

Abstract:Emotions and motivation are important for learning and achievement in mathematics. In this paper, we present an overview of research on students' emotions and motivation in mathematics. First, we briefly review how early research has developed into the current state-of-the-art and outline the following key characteristics of emotions and motivation: objects, valence, temporal stability (vs. variability), and situational specificity (vs. generality). Second, we summarize major theories in the field (the control-value theory of achievement emotions, expectancy-value theory of achievement-related motivation, self-determination theory of human motivation, and social-cognitive theory of self-efficacy). Third, we present an overview of instructional characteristics that have been shown to foster emotions and motivation. Fourth, we provide an overview of the contributions to the special issue on "Emotions and Motivation in Mathematics Education and Educational Psychology." Finally, we suggest directions for future research in the field with respect to advancing theory, improving measurement, and considering diversity and inclusion.
How Chinese Undergraduate Students' Perceptions of Assessment for Learning Influence Their Responsibility for First-Year Mathematics Courses

Abstract:Assessment for learning (AFL) has been associated with curriculum and teaching reform for the past three decades. However, studies on undergraduate students' perceptions of their mathematics teachers' AFL practices are still very limited in the Chinese higher education context. This quantitative study investigated three independent variables—teacher formal feedback and support, interactive dialog and peer collaboration, and learning-oriented assessment—that influence undergraduate students' ability to take responsibility for their learning through the mediation of the factor of active engagement with subject matter in first-year mathematics courses. One hundred and sixty-eight students from a Chinese "double-first-class" university were recruited to provide valid questionnaire data using the convenience sampling method. Partial least-squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was used to analyze the data. The results showed that interactive dialog and peer collaboration, as well as learning-oriented assessment, have a direct effect on students' active engagement with the subject matter and an indirect effect on undergraduate students taking responsibility for their learning in first-year mathematics courses. In addition, learning-oriented assessment was the biggest factor influencing undergraduate students' ability to take responsibility for their learning in first-year mathematics courses. This study contributes by developing a conceptual model and providing new insights into Chinese higher education sectors on factors that can improve undergraduate students' ability to take responsibility for their learning.

Abstract:The current study assessed 869 elementary school students in China using self-report questionnaires, to examine the multiple mediating effects of academic self-efficacy and positive academic emotions (enjoyment and relief) in the relations between teacher support and academic engagement (cognitive, behavioural and emotional aspects) within a math class. The results indicated that teacher support exerted a direct and significant impact on the three aspects of math engagement. Both academic self-efficacy and enjoyment mediated the relations between teacher support and the three aspects of math engagement, whereas relief did not mediate such relations. Moreover, teacher support affected math engagement through multiple paths from academic self-efficacy to both enjoyment and relief. Relief displayed a smaller effect on the three aspects of math engagement than enjoyment did. However, we did not find substantial difference in the underlying mechanisms of different aspects of engagement. Limitations and educational implications were also discussed.

Abstract:Emotions and motivation are important prerequisites, mediators, and outcomes of learning and achievement. In this article, we first review major theoretical approaches and empirical findings in research on students’ emotions and motivation in mathematics, including a discussion of how classroom instruction can support emotions and motivation. Based on this review, we encourage researchers from mathematics education and other disciplines of educational research to combine their efforts. Second, we provide an overview of the contributions in this special issue, most of which reflect such a combination of efforts by considering perspectives from both mathematics education and other fields of educational research. Finally, we consider the neglect of intervention studies and outline directions for future research. We identify intervention studies that target emotions and motivation as one promising but so far underrepresented line of research in mathematics education and review results from existing intervention studies. For future research, we suggest that researchers should implement fine-grained concepts, assessment instruments, theoretical hypotheses, and methods of analysis tailored to the specific features of the mathematical domain to adequately investigate students’ emotions and motivation in this domain.

Abstract:Teacher training is a key element of any quality education system. In the field of mathematics education, identifying the factors that determine positive attitudes towards the teaching of this discipline in the context of initial teacher training is an inherent challenge. This work approaches the issue from a multivariate point of view through a model based on structural equations, in which beliefs, emotions and attitudes towards mathematics are intertwined in explaining their enjoyment of teaching. The results show us that anxiety is a factor with a significant influence over the other components of the mathematical affective domain, and that it is through this influence that it acts on the enjoyment of teaching mathematics.

Abstract:Teacher emotions are essential for teaching effectiveness and teachers' professional development. Studying teacher emotions during a program in today's world is crucial, where teachers are commonly involved in professional development programs. From an ecological perspective, this study employed a case study method to examine the emotions of two Chinese high school mathematics teachers in a 4-year teaching improvement program. Semi-structured interviews, teacher emotion logs, researcher memos, and informal dialogues were all used to collect data. This study aimed to better understand the emotions that Chinese high school mathematics teachers developed and the processes that generated them in their interactions with various ecosystems within a specific professional development program overlay. The study's findings revealed that the two teachers triggered 65 emotions in their interactions with the various ecosystems over 4 years—A describing 51 and B describing 46—with an overall predominance of positive emotions. They triggered the broadest range of emotions in the mesosystem, particularly during interactions with program companions. During the early, medium, and late stages, their internal psychological factors and interactions with each system changed, resulting in significant changes in their emotions. They all went through phases of mixed sadness and happiness, ending in a state of delight and calmness. Finally, we recommended teachers' professional development based on the study's findings.

Abstract:Mathematics courses in higher education (advanced mathematics, linear algebra, etc.) are characterized by abstract concepts, many easily confused concepts, many nature theorems, and large amount of calculation of many difficulties. In most cases, due to the knowledge level, knowledge structure, and requirements of the teaching process, the traditional mathematics teaching adopts the straight-to-point approach to the introduction of mathematical concepts, and the explanation of property theorems mostly adopts the method of giving the theorems first and then analyzing and proving them for the calculation problems are mostly manual calculation. Educators are mainly concerned with how to organize teaching so that the trainees can acquire more knowledge, while ignoring the subject status of the trainees, and it is often related to the talents of higher education. The training goals are consistent. The traditional mathematics teaching only reflects a function of knowledge inheritance, but lacks the function of knowledge innovation. The lack of concept generation process in teaching makes the abstraction stronger; the lack of case analysis process makes the applicability weaken; and the serious separation of engineering problem solving and computer operation makes it lack of practicability. The current mathematics knowledge and curriculum make students in a passive position in the process of mastering basic knowledge. From the study about the present condition of the math education and the real requirement, the thesis will talk about content, characteristics, and the relationships for the practical education along with interactive teaching process. What is more, the ways of education and online education is able to be presented. At the same time, this paper also obtains the maximum weight value of each teaching quality evaluation index through analytic hierarchy process, introduces the quadratic fuzzy comprehensive calculation method of fuzzy operator, and determines the maximum component of the evaluation level as the final evaluation level according to the most subordinate degree criterion of fuzzy comprehensive evaluation. Especially in the formulation of teaching quality evaluation model in China, the qualitative description is processed quantitatively by the method of fuzzy mathematics and statistics, so that the qualitative index and the quantitative index are organically combined.

Abstract:Abstract Achievement emotions have an important role in students’ Mathematics learning outcomes. The dynamic of achievement emotions in mathematics learning evaluation is very important to be considered by the teachers so that students’ academic achievement can be improved. This study was conducted to investigate female students’ achievement emotions in mathematical problem-solving situations. The study involved 50 seventh grade female students selected by using purposive sampling technique. The data were collected through achievement emotions questionnaires and mathematical problem-solving ability tests. The data were analyzed using Wilcoxon test and Kendal’s Tau correlation test. The findings indicated that mathematical problem-solving situation gave significant small negative effect in decreasing students’ joyful emotion. Moreover, it also gave significant small positive effect in increasing students’ depressed emotion. In addition, there was a significant moderate correlation between mathematical problem-solving ability and students’ joyful emotions after the test. Based on the findings, Mathematics teachers were recommended to take control over the students and improve students’ perceived control and confidence value during Mathematics evaluation so that their emotional condition could be well-controlled. Therefore, they could acquire good achievement and the learning objectives could be attained.

On Affective Factors in University Mathematics Teaching
