Abstract:Short-term load forecasting plays an important role in power system dispatch, and the forecasting accuracy could have significant impacts on the security and economics of the power system concerned. In existing load forecasting methods, uncertain factors are mainly modeled by probability or fuzzy sets, while some inherent limitations exist with these methods. Thus,it is still necessary to explore new and more appropriate methods.Given this background,a short-term load forecasting model is developed by employing the chaotic time series theory.First, the phase space of load time series is reconstructed based on the chaos theory, and the fractal dimension of attraction exhibiting the chaotic characteristics of the load time series is obtained simultaneously;the chaotic behavior of load time series is further verified by continuous power spectrum analysis and computing the maximum Lyapunov exponent. Then, the short-term load forecasting is carried out by a local linear forecasting model in which the optimal neighbor points are determined by the generalized degrees of freedom. Finally, the next day load forecasting is carried out based on the historical data of an actual power system in the period from March 1,2007 to May 14,2007,so as to demonstrate the basic characteristics of the developed method.
