Abstract:In this paper, we introduce a dimension, called the cotorsion dimension, for modules and rings. The relations between the cotorsion dimension and other dimensions are discussed. Various results are developed, some extending known results.

Abstract:Let C be a semidualizing R-module, where R is a commutative ring. We first introduce the definition of C-cotorsion modules, and obtain the properties of C-cotorsion modules. As applications, we give some new characterizations for perfect rings. Second, we study the Foxby equivalences between the subclasses of the Auslander class and that of the Bass class with respect to C. Finally, we discuss C-cotorsion dimensions and investigate the transfer properties of strongly C-cotorsion dimensions under almost excellent extensions.

Abstract:Let H be a finite-dimensional Hopf algebra over a field k , and let A be an H -module algebra. In this paper, we discuss the cotorsion dimension of the smash product A # H . We prove that l. .D( A# H) ⩽ l. .D( A ) + r.D( H ), which generalizes the result of group rings. Moreover, we give some sufficient conditions for which l. .D( A# H) = l. .D( A ). As applications, we study the invariants of IF properties and Gorenstein global dimensions.

Abstract:Let R be a ring. A right R-module C is called cotorsion if Ext(R)(1)(F, C) = 0 for any flat right R-module F. In this paper, we first give some results on cotorsion envelopes that are analogous to those on injective envelopes. Then we characterize those rings R for which every cotorsion right R-module is A-injective, where A is a nonemptry collection of right ideals of R. Finally, some new characterizations of right perfect rings and von Neumann regular rings are given.

Abstract: Let (A, B) be a complete hereditary cotorsion pair in ModR. Yang and Ding made a general study of B dimensions of complexes in [56]. In this paper, we define the notion of Gorenstein B dimensions for complexes by applying the model structure induced by (A, B), which can be used to describe how Gorenstein dimensions of complexes should work for any complete hereditary cotorsion pair. Characterizations of the finiteness of Gorenstein B dimensions for complexes are given. As a consequence, we study relative cohomology groups for complexes with finite Gorenstein B dimensions. Moreover, the relationships between Gorenstein B dimensions and B dimensions for complexes are given. Next we get two triangle-equivalences between the homotopy category of a hereditary abelian model structure, the singularity category of an exact category and the stable category of a Forbenius category. As applications, some necessary and sufficient conditions for the validity of the Finitistic Dimension Conjecture are given.

Abstract:Let R be a ring, M a right R-module, and n a fixed non-negative integer. M is called n-cotorsion if Ext(n+1)(R) (N, M) = 0or any flat right R module N . M is said to be n-flat if for any n-cotorsion right R-module N . We prove that (n, n) is a complete hereditary cotorsion theory, where F-n (resp. C-n) denotes the class of all n-flat (resp. n-cotorsion) right R-modules. Several applications are given.

Abstract:For a dualizing module $D$ over a commutative Noetherian ring $R$ with identity, it is known that its Auslander class $\mathscr{A}_D\left(R\right)$ (respectively, Bass class $\mathscr{B}_D\left(R\right)$) is characterized as those $R$-modules with finite Gorenstein flat dimension (respectively, finite Gorenstein injective dimension). We establish an analogue of this result in the context of cotilting modules over general Noetherain rings.

Abstract:We present some results from classical homological algebra using the language of cotorsion theories in abelian categories. The results are a couple of foundational facts about homological dimension, the Kunneth formula and the universal coefficients formula. We also present some ''totally acyclic'' cotorsion theories and revisit some results from the literature concerning resolutions of chain complexes in abelian categories.

Abstract:This paper is to study cotorsion pairs and abelian model structures on some Morita rings \ $\Lambda =\left(\begin{smallmatrix} A & {}_AN_B {}_BM_A & B\end{smallmatrix}\right)$. From cotorsion pairs $(\mathcal U, \mathcal X)$ and $(\mathcal V, \mathcal Y)$, respectively in $A$-Mod and $B$-Mod, one constructs 4 kinds of cotorsion pairs in $\Lambda$-Mod. There even exists an algebra $\Lambda$ such that the four cotorsion pairs above are pairwise different. The heredity and completeness of these cotorsion pairs are studied. The problem of identifications, namely, when the first two cotorsion pairs are the same, and when the second two cotorsion pairs are the same, is investigated. Various model structures on $\Lambda$\mbox{-}{\rm Mod} are obtained, by explicitly giving the corresponding Hovey triples and Quillen's homotopy categories. In particular, cofibrantly generated Hovey triples, and the Gillespie-Hovey triples induced by compatible generalized projective (respectively, injective) cotorsion pairs, are explicitly contructed.

Abstract:Let A, B be two rings and T = ( A(0)M(B)) with M an A-B-bimodule. Suppose that we are given two complete hereditary cotorsion pairs (A(A),B-A) and (C-B,D-B) in A-Mod and B-Mod, respectively. We define two cotorsion pairs (Phi(A(A),C-B), Rep(B-A,D-B)) and (Rep(A(A),C-B), Psi (B-A,D-B)) in T-Mod and show that both of these cotorsion pairs are complete and hereditary. If we are given two cofibrantly generated model structuresMA andMB on A-Mod and B-Mod, respectively, then using the result above, we investigate when there exists a cofibrantly generated model structure MT on T-Mod and a recollement of Ho(M-T) relative to Ho(M-A) and Ho(M-B). Finally, some applications are given in Gorenstein homological algebra.

Abstract:For a commutative noetherian ring $R$, we classify all the hereditary cotorsion pairs cogenerated by pure-injective modules of finite injective dimension. The classification is done in terms of integer-valued functions on the spectrum of the ring. Each such function gives rise to a system of local depth conditions which describes the left-hand class in the corresponding cotorsion pair. Furthermore, we show that these cotorsion pairs correspond by explicit duality to hereditary Tor-pairs generated by modules of finite flat dimension.

Abstract:Let R be a commutative ring with identity, and let S be a multiplicative subset of R. Positselski and Slávik introduced the concepts of S-strongly flat modules and S-weakly cotorsion R-modules, and they showed that these concepts are useful in describing flat modules and Enochs cotorsion modules over commutative rings (see the discussion in [13, Section 1.1]). In this paper, we introduce a homological dimension, called the S-strongly flat dimension, for modules and rings. These dimensions measure how far away a module M is from being S-strongly flat and how far a ring R is from being S-almost semisimple. The relations between the S-strongly flat dimension and other dimensions are discussed.

Abstract:In this paper, we study when the kernel of a complete hereditary cotorsion pair is the additive closure of a tilting module. Applications go in three directions. The first is to characterize when the little finitistic dimension is finite. The second is to obtain equivalent formulations for a Wakamatsu tilting module to be a tilting module. The third is to give some new characterizations of Gorenstein rings.

Abstract:Let $\mathcal{C}$ be a small category. In this paper, we mainly study the category of modules $\mathfrak{M}\mbox{od-}\mathfrak{R}$ on ringed sites $(\mathbf{C},\mathfrak{R})$. We firstly reprove the Theorem A of the paper (M. Wu and F. Xu. Skew category algebras and modules on ringed finite sites. J. A. 631, 2023), then we characterize $\mathfrak{M}\mbox{od-}\mathfrak{R}$ in terms of the torsion presheaves on $Gr(\mathfrak{R})$, where $Gr(\mathfrak{R})$ is the linear Grothendieck construction of $\mathfrak{R}$. Finally, we investigate the hereditary torsion pairs, TTF triples and Abelian recollements of $\mathfrak{M}\mbox{od-}\mathfrak{R}$. When $\mathcal{C}$ is finite, the complete classifications of all these are given respectively.

Abstract:We introduce a refinement of the Gorenstein flat dimension for complexes over an associative ring—the Gorenstein flat-cotorsion dimension—and prove that it, unlike the Gorenstein flat dimension, behaves as one expects of a homological dimension without extra assumptions on the ring. Crucially, we show that it coincides with the Gorenstein flat dimension for complexes where the latter is finite, and for complexes over right coherent rings—the setting where the Gorenstein flat dimension is known to behave as expected.
