Abstract:Heavy metal pollution of river silt is still a major problem in environment in the past years. As the silt has the characteristics of high water content, high organic matters, and low strength, therefor it is hard to be utilized directly for production of construction materials. When it is stabilized by a chemical stabilizer, the content of oxidant, humic acid, and the toxic elements affect the unconfined compressive strength (UCS) of a stabilized soil. This study investigated a functional organic silt stabilizer used for stabilizing river silt at different mixes and curing ages on stabilizing. Soil tests with microscopic image and phase analysis, such as SEM and XRD, were adopted. The test results show an optimal recipe for effective stabilization containing 35% cementitious material, 30% alkaline additives, 30% coagulant, and 5% oxidizing agent. With the optimized recipe of the stabilizer, the increase of the stabilizer dosage and the curing period intensified the compressive strength of the stabilized silt obviously. And the strength and the leaching concentration of lead decreased when the concentration of humic acid increased. With the increase of the oxidant content, the decomposition of the organic matters and the void in the solidified soil decreased. The results of microstructure indicated the generation of hydration products filled the interspace in the solidified soil, which contributed to the improvement of strength and compactness.
