Abstract:This work presents a hybrid model reduction method to efficiently solve optimal control problems constrained by stochastic parabolic partial differential equations. By the hybrid model reduction, the stochastic optimal solution is represented by a low rank variable-separation expansion, by which fast online computation is achieved. A set of stochastic basis functions and deterministic physical basis functions are built for the variable-separation expression. These basis functions are model-oriented and involve offline computation. To efficiently identify the stochastic basis functions, we use a stochastic elliptic optimal system to learn the stochastic information and construct the stochastic basis functions. Then generalized multiscale finite element method is used to solve the parabolic optimality system at a few optimal samples, the solutions of which are used to train the deterministic physical basis functions. By the stochastic basis functions and the set of parabolic optimality system solutions, we construct a bi-fidelity model to efficiently compute the deterministic physical basis functions and get a low rank variable-separation representation for the stochastic parabolic optimal problem. For the hybrid model reduction, bi-model, multiscale coarse model and bi-fidelity model techniques are combined together to significantly reduce the computation complexity. A few numerical results are presented to illustrate the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed hybrid model reduction for stochastic parabolic optimal control problems.
