Colloids and Surfaces A Physicochemical and Engineering Aspects
Abstract:Surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is a widely used Raman technique, which is very useful for molecule detection. However, researchers about SERS up to now mainly focus on the detection of rather large and complex compounds; the small molecule is rarely mentioned due to its lack of dominant function groups in number. Here the absorption behavior of small molecule on Nano-metal-surface is successfully detected. In this work, Nano-Ag-forest is fabricated on silicon sheet as an efficient Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering substrate, and the acetic acid solution is confined to a thin layer on it by the pressing force of glass slide's self-weight. It can be obtained that SERS also works well for such small, simple molecule and the enhancement mechanism is revealed by studying band position, the intensity of different kinds of bond vibration. The Raman signals of particular structures are apparently intensified or shifted on Ag substrate, leading to a visible spectrum demonstrating the absorption behavior. At the end of the discussion, an absorption model is proposed, which can be universally adopted in the analysis of other carboxylic acids.
