Abstract:In this note we introduce generalised pairs from the perspective of the evolution of the notion of space in birational algebraic geometry. We describe some applications of generalised pairs in recent years and then mention a few open problems.

Abstract: In this paper we investigate various properties of generalised pairs in families, especially boundedness of several kinds. We show that many statements for usual pairs do not hold for generalised pairs. In particular, we construct an unexpected counter-example to boundedness of generalised lc models with fixed appropriate invariants. We also show that the DCC of Iitaka volumes and existence of nef reduction maps fail in families of generalised pairs. In a positive direction we show boundedness of bases of log Calabi-Yau fibrations with their induced generalised pair structure under natural assumptions. Roughly speaking we prove this boundedness for fibrations whose general fibres belong to a bounded family and whose Iitaka volume is fixed.

Abstract:In this paper we build bridges between moduli theory of sheaf stable pairs on one hand and birational geometry on the other hand. We will in particular treat moduli of sheaf stable pairs on smooth projective curves in detail and present some calculations in low degrees. We will also outline problems in various directions.

Abstract:A classical set of birational invariants of a variety are its spaces of pluricanonical forms and some of their canonically defined subspaces. Each of these vector spaces admits a typical metric structure which is also birationally invariant. These vector spaces so metrized will be referred to as the pseudonormed spaces of the original varieties. A fundamental question is the following: Given two mildly singular projective varieties with some of the first variety's pseudonormed spaces being isometric to the corresponding ones of the second variety's, can one construct a birational map between them that induces these isometries? In this work, a positive answer to this question is given for varieties of general type. This can be thought of as a theorem of Torelli type for birational equivalence.

Abstract:This paper surveys Campana's theory of C-pairs (or "geometric orbifolds") in the complex-analytic setting, to serve as a reference for future work. Written with a view towards applications in hyperbolicity, rational points, and entire curves, it introduces the fundamental definitions of C-pair-theory systematically. In particular, it establishes an appropriate notion of "morphism", which agrees with notions from the literature in the smooth case, but is better behaved in the singular setting and has functorial properties that relate it to minimal model theory.

Abstract:This paper extends the fundamental theorem of Bloch-Ochiai to the context of C-pairs: If (X, D) is a C-pair with large irregularity, then no entire C-curve in X is ever dense. In its most general form, the paper's main theorem applies to normal Kähler pairs with arbitrary singularities. However, it also strengthens known results for compact Kähler manifolds without boundary, as it applies to some settings that the classic Bloch-Ochiai theorem does not address. The proof builds on work of Kawamata, Ueno, and Noguchi, recasting parabolic Nevanlinna theory as a "Nevanlinna theory for C-pairs". We hope the approach might be of independent interest.

Abstract:The main goal of this article is to formulate a notion, called a generalized GGP relevant pair, governing the quotient branching law for $p$-adic general linear groups. Such notion relies on a commutation relation between derivatives (from Jacquet functors) and integrals (from parabolic inductions), for which we provide both representation-theoretic and combinatorial perspectives. Our main result proves a duality on those relevant pairs, which is compatible with a dual restriction in branching law.

Abstract:In this paper, we first show that Kollár's injectivity theorem on cohomologies holds for projective generalised pairs with mild singularities when the nef part of the generalised pair is b-abundant. Moreover, by applying the methods from complex analytic geometry, we show that the injectivity theorem holds for generalised Kawamata log terminal (g-klt) generalised pairs on projective surfaces without any extra conditions on the nef parts of the generalised pairs.

Abstract:In this article we define generalized pairs $(X, B+\boldsymbol{\beta})$ where $X$ is an analytic variety and $\boldsymbol{\beta}$ is a b-(1,1) current. We then prove that almost all standard results of the MMP hold in this generality for compact Kähler varieties of dim $X\leq 3$. More specifically, we prove the cone theorem, existence of flips, existence of log terminal models, log canonical models and Mori fiber spaces, the geography of log canonical and log terminal models, etc.

Abstract:We first state a condition ensuring that having a birational map onto the image is an open property for families of irreducible normal non uniruled varieties. We give then some criteria to ensure general birationality for a family of rational maps, via specializations. Among the applications is a new proof of a result obtained jointly with Luca Cesarano: that, for a general pair $(A,X)$ of an (ample) Hypersurface $X$ in an Abelian Variety $A$, the canonical map $\Phi_X$ of $X$ is birational onto its image if the polarization given by $X$ is not principal. The proof is also based on a careful study of the Theta divisors of the Jacobians of Hyperelliptic curves, and some related geometrical constructions. We investigate these here also in view of their beauty and of their independent interest, as they lead to a description of the rings of Hyperelliptic theta functions.

Abstract:This paper aims to study the birational geometry of log Calabi-Yau pairs$(\mathbb{P}^3, D)$ of coregularity 2, where in this case $D$ is an irreducible normal quartic surface with canonical singularities. We completely classify which toric weighted blowups of a point will initiate a volume preserving Sarkisov link starting with this pair. Depending on the type of singularity, our results point out that some of these weights do not work generically for a general member of the corresponding coarse moduli space of quartics.

Abstract:In this article, we study the geometry of log Calabi-Yau pairs $(X,B)$ of index one and birational complexity zero. Firstly, we propose a conjecture that characterizes such pairs $(X,B)$ in terms of their dual complex and the rationality of their log canonical places. Secondly, we show that for these pairs the open set $X\setminus B$ is divisorially covered by open affine subvarieties which are isomorphic to open subvarieties of algebraic tori. We introduce and study invariants that measure the geometry and the number of these open subvarieties of algebraic tori. Thirdly, we study boundedness properties of log Calabi-Yau pairs of index one and birational complexity zero. For instance, in dimension $2$ we prove that such pairs are affinely bounded.

Abstract: In this paper we investigate boundedness and volumes of generalised pairs, and give applications to usual pairs especially to a class of pairs that we call stable log minimal models. Fixing the dimension and a DCC set controlling coefficients, we will show that the set of volumes of all projective generalised lc pairs $(X,B+M)$ under the given data, satisfies the DCC. Futhermore, we will show that in the klt case, the set of such pairs with ample $K_X+B+M$ and fixed volume, forms a bounded family. We prove a result about descent of nef divisors to bounded families. This is the key to proving the above and various other results. We will then apply the above to study projective lc pairs $(X,B)$ with abundant $K_X+B$ of arbitrary Kodaira dimension. In particular, we show that the set of Iitaka volumes of such pairs satisfies DCC under some natural boundedness assumptions on the fibres of the Iitaka fibration. We define stable log minimal models which consist of a projective lc pair $(X,B)$ with semi-ample $K_X+B$ together with a divisor $A\ge 0$ so that $K_X+B+A$ is ample and $A$ does not contain any non-klt centre of $(X,B)$. This is a generalisation of both usual stable pairs of general type and stable log Calabi-Yau pairs. Fixing appropriate invariants we show that stable log minimal models form a bounded family. Then we discuss connection with moduli spaces.

Abstract:Extending the theory of systems, we introduce a theory of Lie semialgebra ``pairs'' which parallels the classical theory of Lie algebras, but with a ``null set'' replacing $0$. A selection of examples is given. These Lie pairs comprise two categories in addition to the universal algebraic definition, one with ``weak Lie morphisms'' preserving null sums, and the other with ``$\preceq$-morphisms'' preserving a surpassing relation $\preceq$ that replaces equality. We provide versions of the PBW (Poincare-Birkhoff-Witt) Theorem in these three categories.

The Albanese of a C-pair

Abstract:Written with a view toward applications in hyperbolicity, rational points, and entire curves, this paper addresses the problem of constructing Albanese maps within Campana's theory of C-pairs (or "geometric orbifolds"). It introduces C-semitoric pairs as analogs of the (semi)tori used in the classic Albanese theory and follows Serre by defining the Albanese of a C-pair as the universal map to a C-semitoric pairs. The paper shows that the Albanese exists in relevant cases, gives sharp existence criteria, and conjectures that a "weak Albanese" exists unconditionally.

Abstract:We develop a framework that allows one to describe the birational geometry of Calabi-Yau pairs $(X,D)$. After establishing some general results for Calabi-Yau pairs $(X,D)$ with mild singularities, we focus on the special case when $X=\mathbb{P}^3$ and $D\subset \mathbb{P}^3$ is a quartic surface. We investigate how the appearance of increasingly worse singularities on $D$ enriches the birational geometry of the pair $(\mathbb{P}^3, D)$.

Abstract:We construct three families of pairs of genus 2 curves over a field K, whose Jacobians are isomorphic as unpolarized abelian varieties. Each family is parameterized by an open subset of the Projective line over K. Our construction is based on a remark in a paper by Howe. Later, we describe an obstruction to perusing the same technique over Q.

Abstract:This paper treats linear algebra over a semiring pair, in a wide range of applications to tropical algebra and related areas such as hyperrings and fuzzy rings. First we present a more general category of ``pairs'' with their morphisms, called ``weak morphisms,'' paying special attention to supertropical pairs, hyperpairs, and the doubling functor. Then we turn to matrices and the question of whether the row rank, column rank, and submatrix rank of a matrix are equal. Often the submatrix rank is less than or equal to the row rank and the column rank, but there is a counterexample to equality, discovered some time ago by the second author, which we provide in a more general setting (``pairs of the second kind'') that includes the hyperfield of signs. Additional positive results include a version of Cramer's rule, and we find situations when equality holds, encompassing results by Akian, Gaubert, Guterman, Izhakian, Knebusch, and Rowen. We pay special attention to the question of whether $n+1$ vectors of length $n$ need be dependent. At the end, we introduce a category with stronger morphisms, that preserve a surpassing relation.
