Abstract:Notice of Retraction After careful and considered review of the content of this paper by a duly constituted expert committee, this paper has been found to be in violation of IEEE's Publication Principles. We hereby retract the content of this paper. Reasonable effort should be made to remove all past references to this paper. The presenting author of this paper has the option to appeal this decision by contacting TPII@ieee.org. This paper aims to introduce a new model into surface characteristics in-process optical measurement in machining process. The opaque property of the coolants would be a problem for in-process measurement of workpiece surface characteristics using optical methods during grinding operations. A transparent window method that can produce an optically clean zone on the surface is employed to solve this problem. The surface scattered images of specimens in the clean zone are captured and some features are extracted from the images. A machine learning technique called support vector regression (SVR) is proposed to establish the relationship between these features, optical measurement system and surface roughness, and consequently determine surface roughness. Flow rate of the transparent fluid, the thickness of the fluid layer, scattering feature along the main direction of the scattering stripe, standard deviation perpendicular to the main direction of the scattering stripe and gray feature of the scattered image are supplied as input parameters to the SVR model and the surface roughness is predicted. Experiments have been carried out on some standard specimens with different surface roughness values, and the results show that the new model could estimate the surface roughness with an average percentage deviation of 0.6145%. Therefore, the SVR model is suitable for in-process optical measurement of surface characteristics with a satisfactory accuracy.

Abstract:Microsphere assisted nanoscope was proposed in existence temperature capture higher-resolution images of the nano-structures beneath the microsphere attached the sample surface the paper, a microsphere assisted nanoscope working in non-contact mode is designed and demonstrated, the microsphere is controlled with a gap separated to sample surface. with a gap, the atmosphere is moved in parallel to sample surface non-invasively, so as to observe all the areas of interest. Furthur the influence of gap size on image resolution is studied experimentally. Only when there is close en the sample surface, super-resolution image could be obtained. Generally, the resolution decreases when the gap increases as the contribution of evanescent wave disappears. To keep an appreciate gap size, a quantitative method is implemented to estimate the gap variation by observing Newton's around the serving as a real-time feedback for tuning the gap size. With a constant gap, large image with high resolution can be obtained during microsphere scanning. Our study of non- contact mode assisted nanoscope more practicable and easier to implement.

Abstract:Microsphere has been demonstrated for imaging resolution improvement based on optical microscope, and applied in many engineering and biological fields successfully, while its mechanism is still inconclusive due to the complex physics of both near-field and far-field optics involved. In this paper, a comprehensive simulation model based on point spread function is built to develop a physical insight into microsphere optical nanoscope by numerical simulation. With this model, the Fresnel-region focusing of microsphere lens is studied, which shows the contradiction between focal spot size and focal length. Furthermore, the gap between microsphere and the sample surface is investigated by numerical simulation and experimental verification. As increasing of this gap, the image resolution declines rapidly, and the image becomes blur more and more. At last, a customized sample with a flower pattern etched on silicon substrate is demonstrated with microsphere optical nanoscope, and its feature sizes of 51 nm line width are imaged clearly. While it is generally accepted that microsphere optical nanoscope can be implemented in nano-imaging, these findings quantified the limit on image resolution of this setup, which serves as a general guideline in system design of the other microsphere or micro-particle assisted microscope/nanoscope.
