Abstract:In this paper we consider certain eigenvalue systems. Imposing some reasonable hypotheses, we prove that the eigenvalue systems have a unique eigenvalue with positive eigenfunctions, and that the eigenfunction is unique up to a scalar multiple.

Abstract:The analysis of the existence of solutions for the systems of polynomial equations is much more difficult to handle in general. Nonetheless, we can still confirm the existence of some particular solutions, especially for some special structured tensor equations. In this paper, we theoretically prove that a system of H+-tensor equations with the positive right-hand side has a unique positive solution by proposing a positive increasing map. We also prove that this system also has a negative solution. Numerical examples are presented to verify our results are true.

Abstract:We prove the uniqueness of the positive solutions of the following elliptic system: (1) $-\Delta(u(x))=u(x)^{\alpha}v(x)^{\beta}$, (2) $-\Delta(v(x))=u(x)^{\beta}v(x)^{\alpha}$. Here $x\in R^n$, $n\geq3$, and $1\leq\alpha<\beta\leq\frac{n+2}{n-2}$ with $\alpha+\beta=\frac{n+2}{n-2}$. In the special case when $n=3$ and $\alpha =2$, $\beta=3$, the system is closely related to the ones from the stationary Schrodinger system with critical exponents for the Bose–Einstein condensate. As the first step, we prove the radial symmetry of the positive solutions to the elliptic system above with critical exponents. We then prove that $u=v$, which is a key point for our uniqueness result.

Abstract:A computational test for scalar positive real and strictly positive real functions is proposed in this paper. The input for this algorithm is state space representation, not necessarily minimal. It is derived for the discrete time problem, based on numerical stable eigenvalue computations. The test can be used in the continuous counterpart, which is in fact an improvement of an algorithm posed by Bai and Freund. Differences between the discrete and continuous time problems are also pointed out.

Abstract:Two new eigenvalue inclusion sets for tensors are established. It is proved that the new eigenvalue inclusion sets are tighter than that in Qi's paper Eigenvalues of a real supersymmetric tensor. As applications, upper bounds for the spectral radius of a nonnegative tensor are obtained, and it is proved that these upper bounds are sharper than that in Yang's paper Further results for Perron-Frobenius theorem for nonnegative tensors. Abstract:This paper deals with the existence of positive solutions for the nonlinear system (q(t)ϕ (p(t)u'_i (t)))' + f^i (t,u) = 0, 0 < t < 1, i = 1,2, … ,n . This system often arises in the study of positive radial solutions of nonlinear elliptic system. Here u = ( u 1 , …, u n ) and f i , i = 1, 2, …, n are continuous and nonnegative functions, p ( t ), q ( t ): [0, 1] → (0, ∞) are continuous functions. Moreover, we characterize the eigenvalue intervals for (q(t)ϕ (p(t)u'_i (t)))' + λ h_i (t)g^i (u) = 0, 0 < t < 1, i = 1,2, … ,n . The proof is based on a well-known fixed point theorem in cones.

Abstract:The Euler equations for an isoperimetric eigenvalue problem consist of a singular SturmLiouville equation coupled to a second order nonlinear ordinary differential equation. An existence proof for solutions to the isoperimetric problem is given, thereby proving the existence of solutions to the Euler equations. Next, it is proved that for each eigenvalue any solution to these equations provides a weak relative minimum of the functional for the isoperimetric problem. The proof that this solution is unique follows from the strict convexity of this functional with respect to all admissible functions.

Abstract:We study the uniqueness of positive solutions of the following coupled nonlinear Schrodinger equations: \begin{eqnarray*} \Delta u_1-\lambda_1 u_1+\mu_1u_1^3+\beta u_1u_2^2=0\quad in\quad R^N,\\ \Delta u_2-\lambda_2u_2+\mu_2u_2^3+\beta u_1^2u_2=0\quad in\quad R^N, \\ u_1>0, u_2>0, u_1, u_2 \in H^1 (R^N), \end{eqnarray*} where $N\leq3$, $\lambda_1,\lambda_2,\mu_1,\mu_2$ are positive constants and $\beta\geq 0$ is a coupling constant. We prove first the uniqueness of positive solution for sufficiently small $\beta > 0$. Secondly, assuming that $\lambda_1=\lambda_2$, we show that $u_1=u_2\sqrt{\beta-\mu_1}/\sqrt{\beta-\mu_2}$ when $\beta > \max\{\mu_1,\mu_2\}$ and thus obtain the uniqueness of positive solution using the corresponding result of scalar equation. Finally, for $N=1$ and $\lambda_1=\lambda_2$, we prove the uniqueness of positive solution when $0\leq \beta\notin [\min\{\mu_1,\mu_2\},\max\{\mu_1,\mu_2\}]$ and thus give a complete classification of positive solutions.

Abstract:In this paper, we study a nonlinear higher-order three-point eigenvalue problems with first-order derivative on time scales. Under certain growth conditions on the nonlinearity, sufficient conditions for existence and uniqueness of nontrivial solutions, which are easily verifiable, are obtained by using the Leray-Schauder nonlinear alternative. The conditions used in the paper are different from those in [4, 10, 21]. To show applications of our main results, we present some examples.

Abstract:An eigenvalue problem is considered for a nonlinear nonautonomous ordinary differential equation of the second order on a closed interval with conditions of the first type and an additional (local) condition. The nonlinearity in the equation is due to a monotonically increasing nonnegative function with powerlike growth at infinity. The existence of infinite numbers of negative and positive eigenvalues is shown. Asymptotic formulae for the eigenvalues and the maxima of eigenfunctions are found, and comparison theorems are established. Bibliography: 20 titles.

Abstract:We present a class of nonsingular matrices, the MC'-matrices, and prove that the class of symmetric MC-matrices introduced by Shen, Huang and Jing [On inclusion and exclusion intervals for the real eigenvalues of real matrices. SIAM J. Matrix Anal. Appl., 31: 816-830, 2009] and the class of symmetric MC'-matrices are both subsets of the class of symmetric matrices with exactly one positive eigenvalue. Some other sufficient conditions for a symmetric matrix to have exactly one positive eigenvalue are derived.

Abstract:The solutions to semilinear elliptic partial differential equations contain rich infor-mation about the equations, which is very important for describing the development of various phenomena. The existence of equilibrium solutions of multi-species mutual aid model and the economic equilibrium point can be transformed into the existence of the solutions to Neumann boundary value problems. In this paper, we study the existence and uniqueness of the solutions for a class of semilinear elliptic equations with Neumann boundary value conditions. Using the topological degree theory and the eigenvalue comparison principle, we obtain the existence of the solutions under the assumption that the nonlinear terms satisfy the asymptotic nonuniform conditions. Using the eigenvalue comparison principle, we prove the uniqueness of the solutions. The obtained results extend and complement some relevant existing works. As an application, an example is given to verify the obtained results.
