Abstract:Construction sites are inherently complex and dangerous environments where workers need to maintain a high level of vigilance to ensure safety. Reduced vigilance can easily lead to unconscious or inadvertent unsafe behaviors, potentially resulting in accidents, particularly in high-risk areas such as those involving heights. Despite advances in construction safety management, effective and quantitative real-time assessment of worker vigilance remains a major challenge. Electroencephalography (EEG), enhanced by progress in physiological measurement and sensor technologies, has shown promise in addressing this challenge by tracking cognitive states and providing valuable insights for safety management. Building on these developments, this paper proposes a method for quantifying and evaluating vigilance based on EEG signals by extracting power spectral density (PSD) indicators. It further combines dynamic time warping (DTW) techniques to optimize EEG signal extraction during intervention phases. This approach achieves accurate quantitative measurement of intervention effects. The validity was verified through experiments simulating high-risk fall scenarios. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can accurately assess workers' vigilance states and achieve reliable similarity analysis and data extraction during intervention. The results show an increase in the θ/β ratio across different phases, with changes of 16.33%, 38.77%, and 44.49% respectively in Interventions 1 and 2, and the optimized extraction phase 3. These results highlight the effectiveness of optimized EEG signal extraction in identifying vigilance differences. This approach provides a novel technological solution for intelligent safety management on construction sites. It also offers a reference for experimental design in identifying and evaluating unsafe behaviors based on EEG. Future research will verify the method's generalizability through large-scale field tests and optimize vigilance assessment accuracy to address different operational conditions and environmental factors.
